Burke to Have Cancer Surgery
- Sneed has learned that the indomitable Ald. Ed Burke (14th), known as the dean of the City Council, is scheduled to have prostate cancer surgery on Thursday.
Sneed is told that Burke scheduled the surgery so as not to miss Wednesday’s City Council meeting — something he has never done before in his long civic career.
Internet rumors of his impending death are absolutely false.
That's going to be Sneed's "scoop." Our rumor mill came up with the story that Burke was in a Stage 4 condition. Sneed claims it's just prostate cancer, which actually has a high survival rate, so she scooped us. Whatever Sneed. You've been carrying water for Burke and Daley for decades. Why stop now?

Maybe his security detail will be reassigned to Englewood and CPD brought up to full manpower.

What was Burke's latest PSA and Gleason scores?

My CEO uncle who played golf with every U.S. President since Carter at their invitation died of prostrate cancer within a few months following diagnosis. Initially the cancer was ascertained the survivable kind but it quickly spread. The uncle had all the money and connections necessary to beat the beast and he tried it all, however, nothing worked. Burke ain't outta the woods necessarily is the point. Succession planning might be a fine idea.
She probably heard the story here and then made some phone calls. And then she has the gall to say the rumors were false. Well it was partly true. So what. If you get your info from here you should be more polite.
I'm surprised that ol' Sneed wasn't able to work in a reference to Patrick "war hero" Daley in the story ala "early medical tests indicate that Ed Burke's prostate gland has swollen to the size of one of former Mayor Daley's son Patrick Daley's massive biceps hence the need for surgical extraction"
it seems most of the media get their big stories here.hilarious.and sneed is one of the worst in this town...what a stupid column of total ass-kissing...what an old bitty.

Prostate cancer treatment is generally worse than the condition. If a man lives long enough odds are he will develop this cancer.
If it's not the fast spreading type of prostate cancer you are better off ignoring it and waiting to die from something else.
There are supplements which reduce the risk of getting the cancer and frequent ejaculation also theoretically helps.
I hope to die of a "inflamed wrist" brought on by frequent ejaculation at age 90.
Still a RAT
Don't like the man, but he has my prayers.
Chicago politics take a toll on the body and mind. I don't have anything bad or good to say about the guy. I think like every Chicago politician you have to be willing to play the corruption game if you want to survive. I believe we should have term limits for all government positions in Chicago. Perhaps this will curtail the political crime and corruption.
Reminds me, it's time for my yearly checkup.
they should put him in the line over at the VA.
The back of the line and let the admins monetized his malady like they have done with so many of the vets.
off topic, weaselzippers reported about sensors to be installed on Michigan avenue light poles to gather data.
The smooth, perforated sheaths of metal are decorative, but their job is to protect and conceal a system of data-collection sensors that will measure air quality, light intensity, sound volume, heat, precipitation and wind. The sensors will also count people by measuring wireless signals on mobile devices
they are calling this the "Array of Things”.
this will be Big brother in spades.
at least take a look at this and comment.
"...column of total ass-kissing...what an old bitty."
More bullshit!
The Alderman and Sneed have been family friends for years and years. She or he kisses no ones ass!
Again, the Alderman, proud especially of CPD, comes from a Police oriented family-brother, sons.
Thanks God it's not the disease that the cancerous rumor mongers suggested, embellished and flat out lied.
Hoping you or any of your family members never experience any type cancer.

Dam Burke, I have an idea, retire...let someone else have a shot you selfish, greedy asshole...
I understand that one of his "security team" has volunteered to have the surgery in his place!
This should be a wake up call for all men out there. This cancer can be fatal very fast. When I retired in 1998, I had PSA every year always normal no increase. Had PSA test in June of 2010 and PSA was normal. Then 3 months later had test again in Sept, PSA went from 2.5 to 4.8. Gleason score 17. Had Prostateecomy in Nov. Guys, get this test on a regular basis.

Curtain was W.C. in in the district I got assigned to straight out of the academy. He called my name and I said "HERE SIR"! I think it suddenly struck him that I was a PPO and he stopped, looked down and studied the sheets and after a moment called my name again. I said "STILL HERE SIR"! Every cop at roll call froze in horror wondering what his response to that would be. He lowered his head and peered out over his reading glasses at me then simply called out my FTO's name. I had no idea he was famous for being a nut job.
I met Ald. Burke a few years back, his son and my kids both attended Skinner Elementary. Have to give it to him, he knows where is bread is buttered and knows who to take care of. If you are in his corner, you get more than a few crumbs. I am sure he knows where the bodies are buried.
"High survival rate?"
That depends entirely on which type of prostate cancer one has. Some men get the aggressive fast growing fast spreading type and it ravages them quickly as is metastasizes to other organs. The slow moving type can be lived with, a man typically dies of old age before the slower cancer gets him. One thing, strong possibility the wood no longer is useful in the morning, you know, no nookie no more. The sap will no longer rise.
Rocker Frank Zappa died at age 52 of the fast moving kind of prostate cancer.

Now that the Grim Reaper is at his shoulder it may be time to repent his sins and confess his misdeeds.
He should be offered immunity by the Feds and asked about all kinds of things.
Especially things like the Parking Meter deal. Was there bribery involved and could the deal then be overturned because it was based on a criminal conspiracy.
Confession is good for the soul Mr. Burke.

Legislative Update
June 18, 2014
Legislation signed Sunday by Gov. Pat Quinn bans Illinois police departments from assigning ticket quotas and evaluating officers based on how many citations they issue. This legislation is NOT applicable to the Chicago Police Department as this law stipulates it shall not apply to any municipality with its own independent inspector general and law enforcement review authority, which Chicago has in place.
THEN AND NOW --
Rahm's Electricity "DEAL"
Remember...THEN
December 07, 2012
Integrys chosen for Chicago electricity deal
"December 07, 2012|By Julie Wernau | Tribune reporter
Integrys Energy Services, a sister company to Peoples Gas, is the city's choice to supply electricity to about 1 million residents, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Friday.
The deal, subject to the approval of the City Council, is expected to save Chicagoans $130 to $150 off their electricity bills through May 2015 when the agreement ends. It's also the largest of its kind in the country; the city will negotiate on behalf of residents.
The company, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Integrys Energy Group, was chosen from eight bidding companies. Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the deal will save Chicagoans 20 to 25 percent a month through June after which time the savings will drop to 8 to 12 percent compared to Commonwealth Edison's rates."
...AND NOW...
June 23, 2014
Peoples Gas parent to be acquired in $9.1 billion deal
"And then there was one.
Chicago is losing its second utility headquarters in less than three years with the sale announced today of Integrys Energy Group Inc., parent of Peoples Gas, to Milwaukee-based Wisconsin Energy Corp."
***
"In addition, Integrys announced that it's in the late stages of auctioning its retail energy supply unit, Integrys Energy Services. That's potentially bad news for the city of Chicago because Integrys Energy Services provides electricity to households and small businesses under a contract with the city that now is resulting in higher prices for many residents than they would get with Commonwealth Edison Co."
---------------------------
Wait! Is it May 2015 already?
Looks like Rahm fell short again.
We're gonna lose the HQ.
We're gonna lose jobs after the merger/buyout as always happens.
And, if we're reading this right we've been paying higher not lower energy prices in the deal that Rahm negotiated for how long now?

"Public sector job growth is good news for Chicagoans"
"The public sector is creating jobs at their fastest pace in 5 years; according to a June 23 article in USA Today. Between February and May, state and local governments added 48,000 jobs."
HAHA Government jobs and who pays for those government jobs?
Certainly not the broke ass city, county, state...not without borrowing more money and raising taxes to pay back the borrowed money.
The mad scramble IS ON. FASTEST PACE IN FIVE YEARS!
ELECTION TIME IS NEAR!
This is "good news' for Chicagoans! No really /sarc
Over the time period mentioned Illinois lost about 15,000 private non-farm payroll jobs
http://www.bls.gov/eag/eag.il.htm
The story goes on...
"Over the same period (February 2014- May 2014), the unemployment rate in the State of Illinois went from 8.7 to 7.5%; a decrease of almost 15%."
Yep, and the number of unemployed went from 569K to 492.4K.
But wait that's a drop of about 77K. Where did the rest of the unemployed go that did not get a public sector job?
Left the workforce that's where. No longer counted as unemployed that's where.
The story continues and now attempts to blur the line between public and private jobs as tho private jobs are what was created..
"One business professional viewed the news as fantastic. ”The economy moves in pieces; almost like a train. When the engine (private sector growth) is down, then companies lay off workers. Layoffs decrease the tax base; which is the foundation of state and local government revenues. When they have no money; then police, fire and other essential services are wounded, leading to public layoffs. But when the private sector is growing, the tax base increases, and public sector growth is a reality. This is fantastic news!”"
Tell me how the private sector is growing when the BLS show it shrinking. Oh wait but they only implied growth in that statement above, right?
The private sector is stalled and we're hiring public sector employees like mad. The exact opposite of the "fantastic news"
Then here comes the final flip...The disclaimer..
"State government job growth is rarely measured and seldom is it good news. Many have feared that the unemployment rate doesn’t tell the full story, and that the jobs that are returning are not as secure or as lucrative as the jobs were as late as 2004. Does this current news give you faith that the economy is picking up steam?...."
read the whole thing. A modern day masterpiece!
Also that
Public sector job growth is good news for Chicagoans post compares Illinois public sector job creation to Texas 57,000 PRIVATE jobs created in one month.
Blurring the lines of public and private.

The latest business hit for Kenosha County is the recent announcement by Pleasant Prairie-based Uline that it plans to double the size of its corporate headquarters campus, located southwest of I-94 and Highway 165/Q. In 2010, the company moved from Waukegan, Ill. to a new 200,000-square-foot office building and a new 1 million-square-foot distribution center at the Pleasant Prairie site. Now the firm plans to build another 200,000-square-foot office building and another 1 million-square-foot distribution center at the campus. The company plans to add 500 jobs in the expansion. It currently has about 1,100 employees in Pleasant Prairie.
Kenosha County has attracted several firms from the Chicago area where costs are higher and available land for development, particularly industrial development, is at a premium.

Bad luck for your uncle. You never know how it may have spread. According to the ACS website men have a 15% lifetime risk of developing prostate cancer and a 3% chance of dying from it. The 10 year survival is almost 99% though.
ot: scc I don't know if you've heard but the mayor who cries poor all the time is introducing an ordinance which would prevent owners of single occupancy hotels from converting their buildings into more expensive apartments/condos. So while they continue to demand we pay more towards our pensions and cry poor to the public the mayor is heading a campaign to stop the flow of tax revenue from coming into the city.
unfrickingbelievable.

He had a great impact on me. When his Finance Committee failed to pay my IOD bills they went to a collection agency. I tried to get FOP to help, Shogren told me it was tough. He said by time they file a grievance the bill was likely to be paid so if I didn't like that I could write the Mayor a letter. Old bushy eyebrows Ron Shogren who runs security for Hu-Friedy in back of old 019 told me that.
So I wrote Richie a letter explaining exerything and I included a copy of every bill, made on a city copier of course. I sent the package, about 2 inches thick, certified return receipt to Daley.
Someone there reamed that woman at the finance committee for she called me to let me know the bills would be paid, all of them, within 30 days and she would personally call all vendors.
Than she asked why I wrote to the Mayor so I gave up Ron Shogren, I wrote the letter because Shogren told me to. Fuck him. That was two surgeries and almost a year of therapy. I didn't know Shogren from the man in the moon but no one over at FOP did a fucking thing for me on that IOD. I never forgot that and voted against that prick every time I saw his name.
The only people who really helped when the time came was Greg Bella and Bill Dougherty. Oh, Tim Fallon too was very helpful.

Saw Palmetto and Tumeric are two of the supplements however there is no hard scientific evidence suggesting they help. If you want to do what you can see your doctor once a year and get your PSA done and a digital exam. That will put you ahead of the game. The earlier you can catch it the better chance of survival (which is excellent when caught early). I was diagnosed two years ago, watched it for a while then decided and went ahead and had a Davinci Robotic radical exactly 33 days ago. 6/24/2014 09:39:00 PM
1993 was not the dark ages. Fast spreading prostate cancer is still deadly. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death by cancer in men in the US. Approx 29,480 men will die this year of the disease. 233,000 will be diagnosed.
If you are a doctor, kindly quote how much these treatments have "vastly improved" since 1993, quantify that with some data. What is "vastly improved?" Numbers please. How many died in 1993, you know, way back then in the dark ages of 1993, when I was 43 and Frank Zappa was 52 and all they had to treat him was voodoo and patent medicine and some old Irish chants.
Surgery has improved year by year. Even in 1993 they would simply remove the cancerous prostate. If it had spread beyond the prostate it was tough luck. They had radiation and chemotherapy even then. Jet airplanes too. Did you know the USA landed on the moon waaaaaay back there in 1969? And the astronauts didn't live in caves!
Time will tell. If Ed Burke is still alive in 2020 then he would be doing pretty good. Chances are if it isn't the real deadly variety something else will kill him anyway.

First of all, there's only one R in Prostate. Around here, Northwestern, Loyola, and Rush are probably the best. Had mine done at the Univ. of Chicago several years ago, however, I hear they have lost many of their top surgeons to other hospitals. Just stay away from Christ--lottsa horror stories about that place.
Update anyone on how surgery went?
Loose him at City Hall and the City will be fucked beyond belief!
Haters-your turn but give it serious thought before responding. He shields the City from the Mayor, wherever possible.
He is total pos hope it's stage 4 and spreading. He and his wife have done so much damage to so many.
