Gun Runners Charged
- A South Side man was arrested today on charges he participated in an Indiana gun-buying spree — in a case highlighted by the Tribune to illustrate how firearms sold in other states end up on Chicago's streets.
Winston Geralds, 24, also known by the street name “Worm,” turned himself in to authorities this afternoon at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, where he pleaded not guilty to a six-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury last month.
Geralds, who is the son of a longtime Cook County sheriff’s police officer, was accused of traveling to Indiana in 2012 with convicted firearms trafficker David “Big Man” Lewisbey and buying at least 43 high-powered weapons from gun dealers for illegal resale in some of Chicago’s most violent neighborhoods, according to court records.
Aren't there laws against buying guns and selling them to people who aren't supposed to have them? And the media wants us to believe that this actually happened? There are RULES you know. The left has pushed for some 20,000 different types of rules about guns for the past 40 years or so. This isn't supposed to happen.
The above paragraph is, of course, sarcastic. You can pass all the rules you want and if the potential profit is high enough, you're going to see people violating those laws. In this case, 4 dozen guns changed hands within 48 hours for a profit of $20,000. That's awfully tempting to certain criminal types. And contrary to leftist opinions, the answer isn't more gun laws - it's more prison time for those who break the existing law. Start at 20 years and work up from there. It's federal time, so they should be doing 85% of that.

The "G" took this guy down because he was encroaching on their gun resell program, aka "Fast and Furious."
So who was the FFL that made the transfer, assuming that Indiana law requires the firearm to be shipped to Illinois and not walk out of the Indiana shop or show with the firearm?
Just goes to show that where there is a will, there is a way, when people want guns. So, how is Cook Co.'s anti-gun laws working out?
But gun trafficking would mysteriously stop if Rahm had his way and got all those amazing gun stores to videotape the transaction, amirite? Because Rahm is our amazing mayor!
Chicago just got a little more global attention. Check it out.
Alex Jones is SHELL SHOCKED at Chicago and Chicago media spin (youtube)
More prison time will just deplete the voter base...
The politicians need those votes, so don't count on that happening until they can set up polling places in the prisons!
Winston, or "Worm" as you're called on the street, where you belong... I don't know what name is worse!!
It is possible to buy someone a gift of a firearm but a gift certificate may be better. A recent 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court decision (Abramski vs. United States)only muddied the waters.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation has asked the ATF for clarification.
I sent SCC a copy of the NSSF email BULLET POINTS regarding this matter to consider.
Hell, if the Mexican cartel and various terrorist groups can get (or given)weapons from the Feds a street savey shit bird can too. It's the Chicago(USA) way! The Chicago stench is in DC now.
Buying 43 guns didn't raise any flags? Doesn't the ATF monitor gun sales?
Damn NRA members
Well said , SCC. The answer is more prison time. I hate it when I hear all this bullshit about prison isn't the answer to fixing problems. The fuck it isn't !!! If you lock some asshole up and he is whacked with a hefty sentence that is going get peoples and folks attention. The peoples and folks will get the message and they won't test the waters. Enough of my rant I have to get ready and go to court. Hopefully , I will be able to send some asshole to prison. Ah, who am I kidding ? This is Cook County.
Finally. Get the real bad guys.
You can pass all the rules you want and if the potential profit is high enough, you're going to see people violating those laws.
Which is exactly why this country will never, ever, win the war on drugs either.
Not a cop.
We will be OK if we use existing laws to vigorously prosecute those engaged in such large-scale activity.
OT: See! Guns ARE evil!
This one evidently got on the bus and fired itself!
"Woman Wounded After Gun Fires on CTA Bus"
"The man thought the gun was a toy or lighter, picked it up and it discharged..."

rb
And the prison time needs to be served as far away from Illannoy as possible.
OT: More drivel from the Trib -
Woman hurt when "unattended gun" goes off on CTA bus.
http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/544/article/p2p-80629202/
Oh really? Unattended guns don't "go off". Some dipshit brought a gun on a bus. Another dipshit picks it up and discharges it. A woman was wounded in the process. There, I fixed it for you, Chicago Tribune.
I was hoping someone on this blog would bring up Abramski vs. United States. It basically stems from a former LEO buying a gun with his police discount for someone else and whether or not that was considered illegal under 18 USC 922(a)(6) because there was "false statements" about the lawfulness of the sale of the gun.
Even though there was a receipt for Abramski and the selling of the weapon to his uncle, the ATF still thought it was a false statement and charged him as such.
So what are the lessons from the case?
1) Never ever buy a gun for someone else.
2) Dot your t's and cross your i's when doing ATF paperwork.
3) Gun stores need gift cards.
Okey-dokey....from reading the article, and all the linked articles, it seems to me -- though I could be wrong -- that those involved violated a whole slew of firearms laws, and all levels too, from Federal, to the state(s), to local laws. For good measure they violated a few other laws to boot like identity fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, etc etc etc.
Naturally(/s) the proposed solution by Tiny Dancer, McJersey & the rest of the cabal of commieRAT gun-grabbers to stop shit like this from happening again --- which it won't in a million fuckin' years -- will be to... PASS MORE FIREARM LAWS!
Yep kiddies, you guessed it -- they're a special kind of stupid.
>>>>> 6/25/2014 12:51:00 AM: So who was the FFL that made the transfer, assuming that Indiana law requires the firearm to be shipped to Illinois and not walk out of the Indiana shop or show with the firearm? <<<<<
It didn't go down like that. No shipping to IL. No FFL transfer. Per the article: The guns were bought in person at a Gun Show with a Phony Indiana ID.
Not much you can do against a top quality phony ID, if you refuse to sell you could face a lawsuit for discrimination. Granted a criminal won't sue but you just can't refuse to sell to a black person just because 'he might be a gun runner'.
that didn't happen because it's against the law to do what they did.
so in response to this, they will yet again, pass more laws against doing what is already illegal.
but they're too busy letting people out early on reduced charges instead of keeping the criminals locked up a lot longer.
politicial prostitutes make rodney dangerfield look very respectable.....
By your reasoning, we should legalize drugs, which I'm all for. Of course, I've had a tac cop tell me that would be bad for him, because of job security and all. But yeah, gun control is bad, m'kay? Alcohol is good, guns are good, tobacco is good as long as it has the right stamp, violence is sort of ok, drugs are bad. What the hell would you guys do without the war on drugs?
OMG..OMG THE MEDIA SAYS THEY ARE FINDING GUNS ON BUSES AND TRAINS!!!!
/sarc.
The first story says someone dropped a gun on a bus and it went off grazing a passenger in the leg.
The 2nd story the CTA driver tries to break up a fight and finds a gun lying on the floor.
It doesn't say if conceal carry cards of the holders were revoked or not so IDK.
If only the city would film these gun purchases ya know?
If only the CTA would put up more signs with a picture of a gun inside a circle with a rad diagonal line across it we wouldn't have this problem cuz people would know. ya know?
Just what Rahm needs.
Using the spin media tool to draw attention to how easy it is to traffic guns across State lines
You see THIS..DO YOU SEE THIS TRAFFICKING!? WE'RE OUTRAGED
Meanwhile..
To draw attention away from how easy it is to order the border patrol to stand down while handing out taxpayer paid for bus vouchers to illegal immigrants pouring across the border by the thousands.
SEE HOW EASY IT IS TO TRAFFIC ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ACROSS STATE LINES?
Don't look at that.
Look at the guns over here. NOT at Obama's illegal immigrant HUMAN TRAFFICKING over there.
WHY..Why is it that the government knows dam well how many illegal immigrants are entering the country via this program and refuses to tell the public how many there are.
It's a huge state secrete.
For every person that CPD bust there are bus loads of illegal immigrant single moms and teenagers with no jobs, some are gang members and some may be terrorist being bused here by us border patrol in order to keep the fear game and power grab going... until we have complete chaos and social breakdown.
Ah we'll just take the welfare money for food stamps and immigration lawyers provided by Obama out of peoples pensions and social security.
I don't see the realavence of being the son of a sheriffs deputy but it shows the disdain for law enforcement in general. What ever happened to the cache of weapons lifted off the boxcar that was parked on the tracks in the ghetto. I suppose it's the cops fault too and not the railroad right? Couldn't be the thiefs fault
DOJ arming the drug cartels like the CIA is arming Syrian rebels.
Both designed to create sectarian violence and division of the people
That's how you create a crisis that you do not allow go to waste.
Fire up the black vs white racism.
Fire up the gay vs straight division.
Fire up the feminist movement.
Non stop political propaganda to fuel the fire...promoting a message of those people are not like you.
If that's not enough.
Fire up the Rep vs Dems. Fire up the religious differences Catholics vs Muslims.
Fire up the illegal immigrants and legal citizens.
These people are not promoting unity. It's like they want a civil war so the constitution can be suspended and they can grab even more money and power in the process.
Look at Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, and the usa's role in providing arms and weapons as they stirred the pot.
Then look at Mexico and our southern border, the DOJ gun running and ask yourself what the hell is going on

I can't imagine that he pulled the f__ing trigger to make it do that --
Can you, my man? >grin<

Just like the one not so long ago in a thrift store, gun "falls out" of pocket of donated clothing, someone picks it up...and..and...
Lady across from him fall down dead. 'Magine that.

FINGER. TRIGGER.
Etc.
Idiots.

You can still buy a firearm as a gift as long as the giftee is legal to receive the firearm
I simply don't understand what difference it makes for a responsible, legal FOID carrying person, much less a P/O or IROCC card holder to be unable to attend a gun show or stop at a shop out of state and purchase a firearm?
Or what about the current 3-day rule that was put in place for P/O's in the first place? Wasn't that way when I came on the job. P/O with Star and ID walked in, made the purchase and walked out-with the gun.
Now, we can walk into a shop carrying a gun, decide perhaps to trade in that gun for that new one or even straight out buy that new gun yet there is a 3-day wait and another trip out to the shop...?
This Story is very disturbing and disheartening. The fact that his dad is a CCSP has absolutely nothing to do with his sons actions. I personally know the parents of this young man and they didn't raise him like that. Although the parents had a bitter divorce both parents are very nice people. I'm not sure why he would indulge in this activity but I know his parents are very distraught right now. I'm glad this young man turned himself in and hopefully he will make the right decisions. I agree 43 guns there definitely should have been a red flag from someone. Indiana dropped the ball.
