Mounted Unit Graduates

  • The gates to South Shore Golf Course’s dusty riding arena opened to let through a wailing police car, which began to circle the arena’s circumference. At the center of the arena stood nine mounted patrol officers, shoulder to shoulder, gripping the reins of their horses.

The police car’s sirens whirred. The officer in the car fired shots into the air from the window.

Not once did the horses flinch.

The demonstration was the highlight of Wednesday’s graduation ceremony for the Chicago Police Department’s newest members of the mounted police unit. A crowd of about 100 friends and family cheered for the nine graduating officers, after they gave a skillful, 15-minute presentation of different riding techniques.
We can't recall any articles about a Mounted Unit Graduating Class, so this was a good read. We do recall it being called some of the most physically demanding training from people who went through it, both those who failed and those who made it. Well done Officers.

Did they play the Garry Owen? I hope so. The First Cavalry Division has/had a mounted unit. It is amazing to see them at sabre drill and at the charge.

You can't recall any articles? I picked up a SunTimes on Wednesday and could not find any articles on the IRS scandal or even the VA Scandal.

The media isn't reporting the news. The SunTimes is nothing but Sports, Comics, Horoscopes and Celebrity News.

There was no hard news about any scandal in it and now I see why many people have no clue as to what is going on- the media is silent.

Scandals? What scandals?

Obamacare, the Stimulus, TARP, Fast and Furious, support of the Egyptian regime change, Libyan Leading from Behind, four American killed in Benghazi, blaming a video for the Benghazi attacks, the IRS targeting, NSA email and phone file storage, Syrian Red Line, the Russian takeover of Crimea, the VA handling of veterans, release of Taliban terrorists from Guantanamo, the onslaught of children crossing the Mexican border, two years of lost emails of the key IRS individual and now Iraq. I can’t imagine any previous U.S. President having so many scandals attributed to his administration and virtually none of them adequately answered or resolved.

People don't want to hear bad news unless it can be pinned on a Republican.

I kid you not when I say that a busload of college kids from out of state were imported by the DNC to phone bank and help the local (D) try to win back the seat they lost. The majority of these volunteers "Journalism Majors".

News reporters are no longer interested in breaking a story that someone doesn't want told. It's now activist journalism.

These lazy slobs have been brought up through the university system that tells them that rich people are evil and that capitalism is the reason for all of the worlds misery. It's their duty to right these wrongs, and if they have to lie or cheat to do it. So be it. It's all for a greater collective good.

Communism is here folks, and the media is its Vanguard.

As someone who schools hunters and jumpers over fences, I appreciate their hard work. Yes, we know it looks like we just hop up on the horse and ride, but it's not that easy. Bravo to the new grads!

Many of the police mounts I meet are Thoroughbred crossed with some breed of draft, such as Belgian or Percheron, which is a stunning combination of intelligence, strength and patience. And truly beautiful.

A big thank you to all of you, mounted or otherwise, for the job you do. Stay safe!

I have always enjoyed golfing at South Shore (a former private country club now mismanaged by the Chicago Park District). The constant presence of off duty Chicago Police officers from the Mounted Unit always assured me that the parking lot was safe and secure. The officers always worked with their horses even on their off days.

OT: I’d like to thank the police offers making their way to the Parole Board hearing today. On behalf of other NAC Chicagoans, we grieve for all lost officers, their families and friends. These criminals should never be released – aside from the sentence being well deserved, a release would send a terrible message to thugs in the streets of Chicago /across the state of IL
God Bless

Hello, I'm Mister Ed

A horse is a horse, of course of course,
and no one can talk to a horse of course,
that is of course, unless the horse,
Is the famous Mister Ed!

Go right to the source and ask the horse.
He'll give you the answer that you'll endorse.
He's always on a steady course.
Talk to Mister Ed.

People yak-it-ti-yak a streak
and waste your time of day,
but Mister Ed will never speak,
unless he has something to say...

A horse is a horse, of course of course,
And this one will talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?
Well, listen to this...

I am Mister Ed

There will no longer be hot and spontaneous, fresh and lively public commentary because both papers have been "re-contented," i.e., online comments permanently disabled so that dissenting/contrary opinions will no longer be seen which means only Rahm Emanuel's narrative is available.

Why do you think nation-wide media reports that Rahm is doing such a bang-up job in Chicago "getting things done and kicking the ass of 'entrenched muni employee union interests' intent on bankrupting Chicago?"

If you're at ground level here in Chicago, you're painfully aware of THAT narrative being a construct of a collusive media black-out and city hall criminal-political fuckery aided by entrenched and beholden corporate interests that have successfully managed to elbow the middle class taxpayer/voter to the back of the line.

The captive component of the middle class taxpayer/voter, the municipal employee; has been reduced in stature by design.

The first responder component has been targeted for total destruction... In particular, The Police. Why? Because they have the muscle memory of what a robust middle class was in Chicago. They also have the muscle memory of a robust, fully staffed and fully functioning Police Department that was imperfect but still able to get things done at ground level.

Now? Hmmm... Not so much. Political interference is unchecked and people (folks too) with agendas have too much say in department operations but that's another story.

People with common sense are appalled at what Chicago has been turned into in order to pander to those of the lowest denominator.

Correction... This is now a nation-wide phenomenon.

Chicago style fuckery gone nation wide.

A gift from Daley Inc. because they were terrified of some hollow, smart-ass "colored guy" lawyer cum "community activist" was going to SERIOUSLY fuck up "da guyz" epic thievery by winning the Mayor's office.

"We gotta do somethin' 'bout dis smart colored guy or else!"

>Doorbell rings at the Obama home... Emissaries from Daley Inc. looking kind of uncomfortable being on the wrong side of a peep hole<

The rest of the sad, sore, sorry and sordid turn of events, is now unfortunately history...

Lady Liberty has been disrobed and caused to shamefully and publicly shit herself by these dishonorable bastards from Chicago...

Media Black-out on that too.

Is the FOP trying to get D2/D2a for SWAT this contract? I was in the Marine Unit. I had complaints about things. I filled out a PAR form and bid to a district. That was my option and I took it. You can too. I worked the rest of my career in a beat car, no complaints, no regrets.

The Department is letting the Canine Unit fall by the waste side. Only 12 dogs left working the streets citywide (50 Dogs in 2004).

1st Watch = 1 Dog
2nd Watch = 2 Dogs
3rd Watch = 3 Dogs

Now add in furloughs, medical and sick dogs and you really have:

1st Watch = 0 Dog
2nd Watch = 1 Dog
3rd Watch = 2 Dogs

Two guys have given up the D2 in the last month to leave the Canine Unit because of the poor way the unit is being run by the C/O.

It is not the elite unit it once was.

If you need a canine dog, you are going to have to call the suburbs.
