Cops Shoot Assailant
- A person was shot by Chicago Police officers Saturday morning in the West Side Little Village neighborhood.
About 6:15 a.m., officers from the Ogden Police District responded to a call about a male with a gun in the 2600 block of South Hamlin Avenue, police said in a statement. Police later found a male -- whose age was not immediately known -- at the corner of 27th Street and Avers Avenue pointing a gun at officers, the statement said.
Officers shot him and he was taken to a hospital, police said.
He might even live, but we can't say we care one way or the other.

Pray for his return to health. He made a brief mistake. He didn't actually shot at anyone. He deserves another chance.

Just A Citizen Asks: Officers, I have a question. If these asshole, filthy, violent-loving, cop-hating cockroaches are pointing a gun at you, they want to kill you. If they had the chance, they shoot to kill. Why aren't you all allowed to do the same? Why must you handle these terrorists with velvet gloves??? Why do you "shoot to wound" most of the time? I realize that in this liberal city, God forbid you actually "get rid" of crime/terrorists, but it happens all over. Just wondering.
I wish the police would just let these hoodlums die.
Guns don't kill people.

We can only shoot if deadly force is justifiable. It's a shame that most are just bad shots.
Who the hell has the energy to walk around gang banging and pointing guns at 615 AM in the morning ?

Actually, we don't shoot to wound. We do shoot to kill, but adrenaline flowing tends to throw your shot off in a lot of cases. I don't say that sarcastically, its absolutely true.
We are not allowed to shoot except to defend human life or to prevent great bodily harm or permanent disability or disfigurement, as perceived from the point of view of a comparable police officer and NOT a member of the public at large (spelled out in Illinois statutes, but generally ignored by a lot of juries in lawsuits). Do a Google search for the Chicago Police Department Use of Force model.
More frequent training regarding shooting scenarios would be a very good thing.
You sound like a troll....if you are pointing a gun at a Police Officer you are trained to shoot center mass to kill-not to wound...the reason why a lot of times we wound a suspect who is pointing a gun at us is because it is not as simple and easy as it looks. It is not a paper target it is someone about to take your life. You have a split second to draw your weapon aim and shoot, plus your adrenalin is flowing...you are not about to get a perfect shot off.. This is not TV.

Thank you. I'm not a troll. I used to live right downtown, now in CA, which may change due to liberals and illegals. I read this blog with interest daily. I am beyond sickened with what has happened to the city and the declining respect and rights of you Officers. I have utmost respect and admiration for all of you. Both my husband and I generously support ALL LE as without you, utter chaos, riots and anarchy would take over. God keep all of you safe from these evil-doers.

I have an appreciation for law enforcement officers with good marksmanship.
