Lolapalooza Body Count

One of the teams downtown want to comment? Or the Ambulance crews?
  • Not a peep from the media about the Lallapalooza chaos.... Robberies, agg bats, a rape, over 130 people PER DAY being taken to the hospital for over doesing on Molly, X, heroin, etc..
We've heard some odd stories, but not quite these numbers. Are the organizers sitting on the stats?

300,000 over three days. Who cares about the body count, we can only do so much, we are down at least 3500 PO's.

Chicago Hospitals Brace for Surge in Drug Cases during Lollapalooza

"Loyola Toxicologist Available to Explain Effects of Heroin, Ecstasy and More

"WHAT: Chicago emergency medical experts are preparing for an increase in anticipated substance-abuse cases this weekend due to the Lollapalooza festival. “Ecstasy as well as heroin use are on the rise in the Chicago area, and people coming from out of state will bring their preferred choice of recreational poison,” said Christina Hantsch, MD, FACEP, FACMT, toxicologist at Loyola University Health System. “Hallucinations, fast heart rate and increased blood pressure as well as nausea, seizures and vomiting are the result of drug overdoses, if you are lucky. For the unlucky, there’s death."

"Hantsch is the former medical director for Illinois Poison Control. “Summer music concerts are unfortunately also drug festivals for many and Chicago is a national leader in hosting many events,” said Hantsch, who is board certified in Emergency Medicine. “Pitchfork and many concerts have occurred in the past few months, accounting for a steep rise in overdoses. And with 40 more concerts this summer, Chicago is bracing for an even higher increase in drug-related medical emergencies."

"WHY: Last year’s Lollapalooza recorded 246 ambulance runs and most were for drug-related emergencies."

I was there (on duty) and it's blown out of proportion. Yes there was a little of this and that and a lot of EMS calls, but what do you expect? For the most part the attendees were nice and respectful and gave the coppers high fives. Who gives a fuck if they overdose or drink until they throw up as long as the do it at the show and not on the street. Coppers tend to over exaggerate (esp if you wear jeans and a backwards hat to work and not a uniform.)

Why would they report crime - it's so down and the music brought in over 100 million dollars. But the victims will get the word out, word of mouth is the biggest form of advertising. Just stay tuned to the word on the street.

EXACTLY! I was there off duty and had no problems AT ALL! Sure there were some goofs passed out in the curb, but big deal…better than people getting their asses shot off during a certain parade! It was not bad at all, and the ambo runs were mostly done by private ambulances paid for by the promoters! Same for most of the security. Not really much to complain about with this one, folks…unless you wear a hoody to work and a backwards hat…might actually had to be at work for more than 6 hours!

They didn't show the kids laying in the streets passed out or incoherent. They didn'treport on the batteries, robberies and just plain ignorance. shit like this does not belong in the central business district. Put it in one of our vast expanses of empty business parks or better yet, how about in one of the neighborhoods where the revs complain of a lack of economic development. I was there Friday.

I boxed the compass as it were hiking hiking from stage to stage to see as many performancases as possible.

I did see a couple of kids who had been over drinking and I saw one girl who was on a gurney and being taken to an ambulance.

Granted, I could not see what was going on everywhere, it seemed everyone was having a good time and staying out if trouble.

I was there from noon to 10pm.

It was very well attended.

I saw nothing like the shirtshow taped at Montrose Harbor in July.

It is true, if there was trouble, the CPD on detail there would have been way outnumbered. As I saw pairs of officers once in awhile, I thought, "If there is trouble, it's "Broken Arrow" for these poor guys and the rest of us behaving ourselves.

I just went one day. Evidently, Sat. & Sun. was really well attended.

I think you need to give the kids credit. Given the size of the event, the kids really behaved themselves.

I was at Summerfest to see Humble Pie in 1973 and witnessed the riot. Lollapalooza wasn't even close as far as O.D's and too drunk kids is concerned.

I was at Coachella in April and there were big crowds of kids there too and no trouble.

It's a credit too them all that such numbers can gather and not devolve in to chaos.

I've been there with family four times since it started in Chicago. There are obviously some underage folks who are whacked out drunk or high, but overall its about the safest mass event you could imagine. Never once saw a fight, a weapon, anyone who looked truly *dangerous* or anything like that.

That said, 246 ambulance runs last year averages 82 per day, with most for drugs (>41 of those 82 per day). That is higher than I would have guessed based on my experience by a factor of about 2 or 3.

I detest youth music and mass youth concerts, rampant drug use.

It's been this way in the USA for, forever.

Middle aged Americans hate youth music, think youths are immoral, lazy, avoid honest work and responsibility.

I barely survived last night at Reggie's as the young people were playing some Asian bubble gum version of Rap Music now popular in....

I didn't think that it was all that bad. Like others have said, everyone was drunk and high, but otherwise it was no big deal. Nowhere near as chaotic as the South Side parade or some of these downtown 4th's have been IMO. I will say that if it ever did hit the fan at this event, we're severely outnumbered.

Let's see, at a thousand bucks a run, that works out to...

No more permits for these events unless the promoters "outsource" their own portable field hospital/detox to be brought in and set up at the venue.

Announcements booming over the PA system from the Hippie Medics. "Uh, like, man, don't take the blue-speckled acid that's going around? It's a real bummer?"

"By the time we got to Woodstock..."

I was there Friday on the 3rd watch. Lots of intoxication and heard approximately 15 - 20 OD ambulance /medical calls. Crews would go to spot and take out subject, almost all young females, and take them for treatment or worse case sent to hospital by ambulance. Couple of fghts and the usual snatch of a couple of cell phone. Arrests were mainly for dealing or fighting.

Biggest cluster was Tac Teams across the city prepared for 1 sgt and 8 POs as the norm for VRE and all other details. THursday at 5ish order comes out calling for Sgt & 10POs. Scramble, scramble. Some teams arrived with as little as 6 POs. Districts had to send watch personel to fill the gaps.

In addition, one of the Obama girls and her Secret Service contingent was at the techno stage where most of the mollie was being sold. LMFAO.

All in all not a bad night especially at time and a half.

Rahm controls the media and nothing will be said against anything his brother is involved with who was the promoter of Lolla.

"Keep in mind that Rahm's brother has his hand DEEP into the Lollapalooza pool of profit and cash."

Prove it, or shut the fuck up.

You will see how we get shafted on the damage to the grass that is part of the contract. The brothers Emanuel onloy care about their dollars and the sycophant media is all over making them look good. Like Levine, Spielman, Sneed, etc.

Hmmmmm...

It looks like one of the Emanuel boys got smoked out of their hidey-hole by this comment.

Rahm?
Ari?

Why so chafed?

You little hobgoblins harbor a deep animus and malignance toward all who aren't you.

You demonstrate no care or concern for good, hard working people and you expend much energy prying their hard earned treasure out of their hands because it isn't in yours.

Nary a genuine civic/public service/humanist bone in your bodies.

Handlers, facilitators, advisers, idea men and other such who have a gift for being in the thick of conjuring money out of thin air.

Have any of you done any work in your lives that rquired you to actually sweat, endure discomfort or donate some skin to a hard surface both literally and figuratively?

Oversold lunatics... All of you.
