Seriously?

This is the parade route?

These aren't astronauts. Or war heroes. Or lord knows what - they're kid ball players. Hell, even the Sox, Bears and Blackhawks parades were miniscule compared to this. And it runs over 100 blocks, which the city estimates they'll cover in an hour. Are we talking about half-a-dozen buses flying up Halsted or what? We realize Rahm and Illini-wreck have to get their glad-handing in, but geez.

Its an obvious attempt to keep the ghetto dwellers in the ghetto....I mean why go to Grant Park when the parade route runs right up throught the entire south side?

"Second rally around 11 AM?"

The kids were great, but...is this going to tie the city up in knots all day?

What about the return trip back south? How long will that take, and what further ceremonies will ensue then?

Sorry, team, but I get the most awful feeling that you are being used by a horrible, advantage-grabbing cynic of a mayor, to placate and distract people after serious civil disorders elsewhere. You don't deserve that.

You sure know how to play ball. Now, here's your first lesson in Chicago politics.

Rahm I. Emanuel never knew what "innocence" was. From all accounts, he was fully formed as a shrieking, pushy little bastard at around age 5, and has remained so.

As a decent person, I think that I'm embarassed.

From day 1 since I heard they were planning a parade I've had two thoughts about the planned event.
One: The 1967 Roseland little League accomplished the same achievement and there was no parade and two: The Saint Jude CPD Memorial Parade was shunted off to it's current obscure route. I understand that it ends up at the Police memorial but Michigan Ave to Holy Name Cathedral was far, far better.

Goooood Gawd!

WHOOOO!

Every discerning eye that sees this route map will roll backwards into it's skull of residence...

Breads.
Circuses.
Fuckery.
Diversionary Bullshit on Rahm's order.

Somebody weighed in with a good one on another post about how Rahm needs to STFU and step out of these kids limelight.

Yeah... We understand a rally in Multi-Million Park but a 100+ block long PARADE?

The motherfuckers running this city are painfully stupid.

1 hour from 106 & Morgan to Monroe & Michigan on the tail end of the morning rush?

Lol!
Whoever hatched this was too smart to ask a street cop what the business is trying to drive around let alone run a parade/motorcade at 9am on a weekday.

Who ever hatched this doesn't have the joy and pleasure of ever being behind the wheel in Chicago during that time either.

Dumb.
Unsafe.
Reeks of politics more than celebrating these kids...

I heard these kids being interviewed after their loss. Humble, respectful and saying they wanted to be an example of good in a place where they see so much violence and bad examples.

I'd rather see these kids who earned respect by hard work and merit than the so-called Reverends who milk tragedy for their personal plunder.

You are wrong on this one. There is not much in the area of role models or successes in the Ghetto (adults, aldermen and reverends included). You can tell that just by reading this and the True News everyday.

I watched more baseball the last weekend, than I have in the last twenty years.

WHY? These kids, for kids - were really good. They could definitely outplay the Cubs. Plus, they showed proper upbringing and conduct - a rarity in the Ghetto.

Give them their chance in the spotlight and maybe some other kids who are on the fence as far as joining gangs or joining something positive will make the right choice.

What if this spawns two or three or even four new teams trying to attain a goal? That's another 100 kids or so focusing on "the right stuff".

The only negative I see on the Parade is the politicians trying to get their mugs on TV. Rahm and "Pandering Pat" will sure have the yellow T-shirts on. But they are the sideshow, not the main event.

I usually do not have much good to say about these "high-crime" districts, but this is a good thing and maybe this should get the air-time that all the bad things get day in and day out.

Maybe they should have this coach on as much as they give Father Phleger air-time.

And what about the parents? Maybe having some parents who push for discipline, hard work and making yourself into somebody should have more air-time than the blowhard aldermen and other TV regulars that add nothing to the community?

Why doesn't FOP sponsor a little league team (or teams)? Maybe you could change a life or two yourselves?

Has everyone forgotten how to build a community and just know how to suck the life out of it?

If that is the case, then rename it Chitroit.

Not A LEO, JAFO

Seriously, WT..Heck? Do the ijits in city hall who planned this -- and I use the word 'plan' very loosely -- realize the team *DIDN'T WIN* the Little League World Series, but came in second. Now that's a nice accomplishment and the kids should be very proud of themselves...but!...a parade this long is idiotic, especially FOR NOT WINNING.

After all its not like everyone follows little league baseball, 99.5% of Chicagoans likely don't have a clue, even with a Chicago team was doing well. So a parade about 4 blocks long and held in their own neighborhood would have been more than adequate.

And did the geniuses in city hall take into account what this moronically long route will do to traffic, or businesses, or people who live near this fiasco? Yeah, right, sure they did. (eye roll)

---- Let me guess, anyone criticizes this boneheaded parade will be called a racist, and they 'hate children' (no wonder Chi and IL are looked on as big jokes that are run by imbeciles) ----

I think it's funny (not haha funny but odd funny) that the Mayor is so over the moon about this. We "met" Rahm when our daughter and his kids were on swim teams. We weren't on the same team but did run into him when the teams met. At those meets he pretty much sat apart from the cheering parents, focused on his mobile device. You know, showing real interest in the sport his kids were in.

So pardon me if I think his joy over this team is wholly a political stunt.

Soo winning was important when they were winning when they lost all of a sudden winning isn't important.

They are a nice story, but they are a team that lost the national past time to Korea. Nice story but no they are not heroes. They are kids who are really good a baseball for their age.

I hope these kids grow up to be successful in life and not buy into the hype

Hey SCC, I'd let them go all the way to Rogers Park if these kids wanted to... I remember being that age and wanting so bad to be in that tournament, and to finally see a Chicago team get that deep is amazing. They should be celebrated because who knows when the next time is that we will see a team from this area do that. Good job kids.

SCC, I agree that the parade route is very long. But if these (already tired) kids want to walk it in celebration, with the people (and folks) of Chicago celebrating (peacefully), good for them! Nice to see kids working hard to achieve a goal. If there were more of that in *any* community we wouldn't have the troubles we are having with the current "gimme" generation.

You signed up for the military with the prospect of being sent to war, and you were paid a salary. You were not drafted.

Sorry Marine, but I have to agree here. You volunteered (and I applaud your service) for the military in a time of war. You must have had an idea that you would end up in the sandbox. You went, served honorably and returned safely. Good for you. It's time to move on and quit complaining about no parades and accolades. Stop looking for pats on the back. Your nation is grateful.

Before the rips start, I joined the Army at 18 in 1971, served three non combat years, came home, worked, eventually got on the job and retired after 28 years. No parades, a nice retirement party and the knowledge that I did my part.

That was good enough for a lot of us. It should be for you too.

A parade for the losing team.

Cubs/Sox having parades too?

Why stop at 100 blocks?

Will be watching newscasts. They might go into "breaking news" or "alert" mode for 90 minutes!

It is politics as it was when Hiz-zonner showed up at murdered child's house recently.

"Never miss an opportunity" gets old.

Still, congratulations to the children and the parents for something even the politicians do not see: VALUES!

This kids worked hard for what they achieved, they have proved with hard work and dedication you can succeed. I do believe the parade is extremely long , heard chicago QB Cutler donated signed jerseys for all the players.

SCC... "These aren't astronauts. Or war heroes. Or lord knows what - they're kid ball players"... kid ball players that have shown light in this dim city. They're kids on a national platform that can serve as an example of what team work, perseverance, dedication, humility, strong family values and an involved community can produce. No, this was not suppose to be a celebration limited to a two block stroll through the neighborhood... this is a national celebration! I can only imagine the corporate sponsorship that will follow to many youth organizations throughout this city and throughout this country. There are other children who will be motivated and inspired. When kids do good, we should celebrate!

I'm just glad they didn't start any of it on time. The nine a.m. rally still hadn't started at 0945, so I was able to drive into downtown and get out before the much-delayed Millennium Park thing got started.

Little League players being awarded the Croix De Guerre?

"The Croix de Guerre (English translation: Cross of War) is a military decoration of France. It was first created in 1915 and consists of a square-cross medal on two crossed swords, hanging from a ribbon with various degree pins. The decoration was awarded during World War I, again in World War II, and in other conflicts. The Croix de guerre was also commonly bestowed on foreign military forces allied to France.

"The Croix de guerre may either be awarded as an individual or unit award to those soldiers who distinguish themselves by acts of heroism involving combat with the enemy. The medal is awarded to those who have been "mentioned in despatches", meaning a heroic deed or deeds were performed meriting a citation from an individual's headquarters unit. The unit award of the Croix de guerre with palm was issued to military units whose men performed heroic deeds in combat and were subsequently recognized by headquarters."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croix_de_guerre

This is more than a little "over the top."

No IDIOT, that was my grandfather's generation of military. This generation SIGNED UP, then demands parades and special treatment upon return from WHAT THEY SIGNED UP FOR. After their 4 years of service, they have a lifetime of free health care while we fight for our pensions and health care AFTER working 30 years.

And as far as the "heroes" bit - that generation has come and gone. Most of the crybabies coming back telling everyone their "war stories" were mechanics, paper pushers, or "deployed in combat" staring at a radar screen waiting for a phone call to push a button and fire a missile from an air conditioned building 100 miles from the people who were engaged in true combat. And these "vets" are the ones screaming loudest for every parade and as much ass kissing as they can get. For what they volunteered, were paid, get free college if they want it, and free lifetime health care.

I have no ill will toward anyone who has served in our military. But this "they shouldn't have a parade because we didn't" attitude is embarrassing. My grandfather, who fought in actual combat in a war that actually meant something, would NEVER have said something like that. And I assure you, whether today's vets VOLUNTEERED (and were paid) or not, I assure you we would not be speaking Farsi, Dari, Arabic, or any other language. So you can get off that one too. What would happen is I would pay more for gasoline, and ultimately this country of lazy asses would make the adjustment like every place in the world where gas is 2-3 times the price we pay, who doesn't ask its people to volunteer for wars over oil (and not give them parades when they feel they are owed).

Again, get over yourself. You're not a war hero because previous generations who were drafted (hats right, they served and were treated like REAL CRAP upon their return) into crappy political nonsense (Vietnam, Korea) or fought wars of world wide historical significance were just because you're all "military". Some people aren't the kool aid drinkers that will kiss your a** and lump you all into the same category and treat you like a hero like you want. Earn your keep back here in reality just like every other respectable persona and you'll get respect.

And for the record I believe a 10 mile parade for little league is more than a little extreme too, and I'm not condoning it.

I'm surprised the parents aren't offended by being called "inner city". These kids come from nice neighborhoods, have working parents and live in nice homes? If anything they are advantaged. Congrats to the dedicated parents and coaches but the media needs to stop selling the poor, disadvantaged, inner city, black kids BS.
