Seriously?
This is the parade route?
These aren't astronauts. Or war heroes. Or lord knows what - they're kid ball players. Hell, even the Sox, Bears and Blackhawks parades were miniscule compared to this. And it runs over 100 blocks, which the city estimates they'll cover in an hour. Are we talking about half-a-dozen buses flying up Halsted or what? We realize Rahm and Illini-wreck have to get their glad-handing in, but geez.

Its an obvious attempt to keep the ghetto dwellers in the ghetto....I mean why go to Grant Park when the parade route runs right up throught the entire south side?
It's campaign season. Gotta hit up as many potential voters as possible.
"Second rally around 11 AM?"
The kids were great, but...is this going to tie the city up in knots all day?
What about the return trip back south? How long will that take, and what further ceremonies will ensue then?
Sorry, team, but I get the most awful feeling that you are being used by a horrible, advantage-grabbing cynic of a mayor, to placate and distract people after serious civil disorders elsewhere. You don't deserve that.
You sure know how to play ball. Now, here's your first lesson in Chicago politics.
Rahm I. Emanuel never knew what "innocence" was. From all accounts, he was fully formed as a shrieking, pushy little bastard at around age 5, and has remained so.
As a decent person, I think that I'm embarassed.
It's election time SCC, it's all about the the votes. OOOOPS, I mean children ;)
From day 1 since I heard they were planning a parade I've had two thoughts about the planned event.
One: The 1967 Roseland little League accomplished the same achievement and there was no parade and two: The Saint Jude CPD Memorial Parade was shunted off to it's current obscure route. I understand that it ends up at the Police memorial but Michigan Ave to Holy Name Cathedral was far, far better.
Goooood Gawd!
WHOOOO!
Every discerning eye that sees this route map will roll backwards into it's skull of residence...
Breads.
Circuses.
Fuckery.
Diversionary Bullshit on Rahm's order.
Somebody weighed in with a good one on another post about how Rahm needs to STFU and step out of these kids limelight.
Yeah... We understand a rally in Multi-Million Park but a 100+ block long PARADE?
The motherfuckers running this city are painfully stupid.
1 hour from 106 & Morgan to Monroe & Michigan on the tail end of the morning rush?
Lol!
Whoever hatched this was too smart to ask a street cop what the business is trying to drive around let alone run a parade/motorcade at 9am on a weekday.
Who ever hatched this doesn't have the joy and pleasure of ever being behind the wheel in Chicago during that time either.
Dumb.
Unsafe.
Reeks of politics more than celebrating these kids...
Watch them red light cameras y'all!
>FLASH!<
Just love when all of the pandering politicians show up to get photo ops with the kids. As for the parade and honors let the kids have their day in the spot light.
Da Mayor's ways are mysterious, but very effective. He is da man.
SCC, you Grinch! :)
I heard these kids being interviewed after their loss. Humble, respectful and saying they wanted to be an example of good in a place where they see so much violence and bad examples.
I'd rather see these kids who earned respect by hard work and merit than the so-called Reverends who milk tragedy for their personal plunder.
C'mon! Give these kids their due. They've done something no MLB team here has done in 9 years (and some, over 100)...go to a World Series! They're great kids, with bright futures, great home lives and level heads. It's the least this city can do to thank them for bringing some pride to this place!
Anything for a vote.
Preference to CPS students for Fire and Police...equals...law suits. Archdiocese in Chicago has 20 Catholic High Schools....13 are half minority, total number of all 20 schools equals half minority. So who loses out? Separate from the religious factor, how can underage students, under the care of their parents at the time, be denied future rights when they had no control over where they attended school?
Anything less would be racist.
They'll be visiting the white house next week. They'll be on the View, Ellen, Today show. France will be awarding the team their countrys highest order award.
Should be an interesting day.
I think they should do 3 laps myself.
Those kids are going to be exhausted
I am happy for them, but these politicians are using them like a Madison Street ho. Sickening.
Anytime kids are treated this way (doesn't matter what race) they grow up to be egotistical monsters.
Treat kids like kids. Pizza party then Netflix
They L O S T !!!!!! Big deal .
Rahm will certainly hoist his weasel body front & center on his float in his desperate attempt to win back the black people vote. (We still ain't votin for you).
Umm....doesn't school start the day before?
Maybe the parade should be on the weekend?
Bless these kids. Hey Rahm and Quinn, Keep sucking that ass!
West side aldermen and ministers just got disrespected big time. If they don't take Madison St. from Austin Blvd. to downtown there gonna be some trouble!
I was surprised the Illiniwreck did not meet them at Midway.
...and they stuff us off in that little park so no one can see us
Someone better bring jumper cables.
Its all about black votes!
Rahm will have his no tie shirt on acting like he watches baseball.
So, the Memorial Day parade covers about 6 block from the staging area to the end. Screw the military, little league is FAR more important.
One JRW player commented that he was looking forward to going back to school. That statement alone should resonate throughout the city. Keep up the great work parents and families of these players! Unfortunately these CHAMPIONS have to return to this pathetic city in ruins. May God watch over them.
SCC
You are wrong on this one. There is not much in the area of role models or successes in the Ghetto (adults, aldermen and reverends included). You can tell that just by reading this and the True News everyday.
I watched more baseball the last weekend, than I have in the last twenty years.
WHY? These kids, for kids - were really good. They could definitely outplay the Cubs. Plus, they showed proper upbringing and conduct - a rarity in the Ghetto.
Give them their chance in the spotlight and maybe some other kids who are on the fence as far as joining gangs or joining something positive will make the right choice.
What if this spawns two or three or even four new teams trying to attain a goal? That's another 100 kids or so focusing on "the right stuff".
The only negative I see on the Parade is the politicians trying to get their mugs on TV. Rahm and "Pandering Pat" will sure have the yellow T-shirts on. But they are the sideshow, not the main event.
I usually do not have much good to say about these "high-crime" districts, but this is a good thing and maybe this should get the air-time that all the bad things get day in and day out.
Maybe they should have this coach on as much as they give Father Phleger air-time.
And what about the parents? Maybe having some parents who push for discipline, hard work and making yourself into somebody should have more air-time than the blowhard aldermen and other TV regulars that add nothing to the community?
Why doesn't FOP sponsor a little league team (or teams)? Maybe you could change a life or two yourselves?
Has everyone forgotten how to build a community and just know how to suck the life out of it?
If that is the case, then rename it Chitroit.
Not A LEO, JAFO
Fought in the Afghanistan No Parade and Nothing from the city Treated like shit by bosses upon my return Semper Fi
It's Rhams reelection parade
The Sun-Times headline of "profiles in courage" for JRW made me want to gag. They are kids playing baseball. They were courageous about nothing. I liked the team. I was happy with how well they responded to losing. I just think that this statement is overstating things.
Your tax dollars at work!!!!
Is it safe to bring my kids on Halsted to watch the parade around 79th street? That's not the 79th street all the shootings are by is it?
**Free food *****and corporate give aways
What a dichotomy of life in Chicago!
9 yr old, the youngest victim of violence so far in 2014, is being buried
While
some kids of approx the same age are welcomed by CFD with water cannons, all of Midway Airport stops and cheers, and there is a 12-mile parade in their honor.
None of this is appropriate. Someone needs to take charge in this City and be the adult.
Thank you for saying what a lot of us have been thinking since this nonsense started. Enough already, they're a little league baseball team. While a small diversion for a couple of weeks, they haven't brought shit together in MY city. Give them a trophy and send them back to school. (Cue the racism accusations now)
Election year.
It's an Election year!
I admire these guys for playing great baseball and winning but I agree with SCC. Come on. Get real. This parade is ridiculous.
I found it terribly offensive the way that the media, in the person of the broadcasters were falling over themselves praising these kids because they were black, but at the same time they did play extremely well, and neither they, the coaches or the extended families exhibited any racist nuances. They deserve any and all recognition that the city can give them much more than some overpaid, one dimensional professionals.
Don't forget that when streets are shut down for special events the city has to pay LAZ for the pay boxes that normally would be fed by motorists parking their vehicles on these streets.
It's like trying to win an argument with a woman...When 'kids' are gang banging its nothing but, 'I told you so comments'...when 'kids' work hard and accomplish something...no matter how irrelevant in your view...still nothing positive to say. They came 1st in the Nation...2nd in the world...It's a parade route, an experience I hope they revel in, enjoy and never forget...Chicagoans are proud about 'Something' for ONCE and it's KIDS...political pandering aside - its what politicains DO - 'Suprise!!'...You're welcome : ) . Apathy is one thing...but it would have been a breath of fresh air to see your blog simply congratulate this team of 11-12 year olds...I'll just nod my head next time I read your blog...and say to myself, 'You're right... you're right'... : )
Days off cancelled.
Put them behind Soldier Field like they do for our parade
Seriously, WT..Heck? Do the ijits in city hall who planned this -- and I use the word 'plan' very loosely -- realize the team *DIDN'T WIN* the Little League World Series, but came in second. Now that's a nice accomplishment and the kids should be very proud of themselves...but!...a parade this long is idiotic, especially FOR NOT WINNING.
After all its not like everyone follows little league baseball, 99.5% of Chicagoans likely don't have a clue, even with a Chicago team was doing well. So a parade about 4 blocks long and held in their own neighborhood would have been more than adequate.
And did the geniuses in city hall take into account what this moronically long route will do to traffic, or businesses, or people who live near this fiasco? Yeah, right, sure they did. (eye roll)
---- Let me guess, anyone criticizes this boneheaded parade will be called a racist, and they 'hate children' (no wonder Chi and IL are looked on as big jokes that are run by imbeciles) ----
I am reserving my energy for when the CUBS win it all.
Every politician will be fighting for camera time. You will hear and see them five times more than the little leaguers. Another waste of resources!
I hope I am not assigned to the parade. My squad will not make it the entire route.
The each player has also been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for what they may accomplish in the future.
Great job for the little fellas! Congrats!
Who cares.. It's a bunch of kids. They will get a kick out of the parade. Let them enjoy it. I'm sure it's one of the biggest moments they will ever experience. No reason to bash little kids. They are not the ones screwing up,shooting and gang banging. Good for them and congrats
Some of you are envious of little leaguers, what a shame. If you can't allow these kids to have this recognition you have a serious problem. By the way,1967? get a life!
Want to know the reason for this parade? James Earl Jones' speech in Field of Dreams thats why. Congrats JRW.
I think it's funny (not haha funny but odd funny) that the Mayor is so over the moon about this. We "met" Rahm when our daughter and his kids were on swim teams. We weren't on the same team but did run into him when the teams met. At those meets he pretty much sat apart from the cheering parents, focused on his mobile device. You know, showing real interest in the sport his kids were in.
So pardon me if I think his joy over this team is wholly a political stunt.
Lol it's for the kids. anything for the votes. I LOVED the team, they did a great job, but that parade route is way too long. Traffic will be jacked up. They should have stopped at U.S. Cellular and held it there.
This isn't a parade; it's a nationwide excursion.
The Little League players are being used by Rahm Emanuel as political window dressing. Celebrate the kids and ignore the Tiny Dancer.
This has to be the dumbest city in the nation. Just look who's running it. We have one of the highest unemployment rates and we're number one in crime. No wonder 75% of IL residents want to get out. This parade is such a waste of time and money. For crying out loud they didn't even win!!!! We all know why these kids are being coddled by the city. Should be an interesting day tomorrow.
These kids have what many don't have. Active parents (plural). I'm not a sports fan but these kids drew this city together more then any other group in awhile. And they are kids not multi million dollar professional athletes. They obviously had something to keep them focused and give them hope. Unlike most of the kids in the ghetto who have to much idol time. I say cheers and god bless these young men and their parents. And yes I'm a white cop that doesn't see color accept BLUE!!!
The funeral for felon Brown bordered on being ridiculous this asshole was a gangbanger and a felon to honor him in this manner shows the ignorance of the president and many more "people in charge" who should never be in jobs that they are because of this idiot in the White House it was disgraceful. Now you have a bunch of kids who play on a racists ball team in a racists league getting a parade put on by Rham{pres'] buddy and people in high jobs in Illinois [who should not be there] it's disgusting and racists if it were a all white ball team there would be none of this the whole country is being run by moronic insipid boobs who have drained this country to a third world status.
Lot's of voters along that parade route. You don't think they would let a campaign opportunity like this just slip by? This thing is golden, you don't just give it away!
And Quinn and Emanuel at the head of the line. They ought to be stoned for hanging on to those kids shirttails like that.
you mean these little guys will each
receive the Croix De Guerre from the
French Government That's awesome.
They deserve that and MORE.
And it means more than the B.S. that
the mayor is tossing their way, which is zilch. Why is the city not
giving each of these little guys and
their coaches a medal or some kind of plaque of recognition since they
are being pimped-out for votes by the mayor.
lol, hope the local Poli's find the route to be a Not Safe No-Go Zone.
If you think about it, it would be good in everywhere is a No-Go Zone for local poli's.
May they be festooned in tomatoes & other soft fruits everywhere they show their pandering mugs
Sad to think that CPD would arrest any person chucking a tomato or banana cream pie at your local poli
How irresponsible of the Mayor to place Chicagoans in jeopardy. Knowing that ISIS has been scoping out Michigan Avenue, their eyes might be on this prize! I'd cancel this parade immediately! Maybe God will bless us with a freaky thunderstorm.
What is the big deal about these JRW's. I know these aren't shooting and killing people in their hood, but that is what they all should be doing anyways. Now need to have a whole parade for them, come on...
How much is this costing for the parking meters out of service?
It will be a fun time , thousands will be on halsted street and 10,000 or more at the park .
Yeah, you coppers just go march around the park, out of the public eye.
Good for the kids, I don't care how long the parade is, they deserve every inch of it!
Disagree.
I support the long parade that goes from South Side to Michigan Avenue Millennium Park.
It's been a long time since we have anything rally positive that united the Black South Side to the wealthiest parts of Michigan Avenue.
The Jackie Robinson West team made us all proud. The best thing they did was not to embarrass our city by doing or saying something stupid, they showed good sportsmanship. That's a miracle in my book!
Yeah I'll be out there waving the Chicago flag on both the South Side and Michigan Avenue sites of the parade.
These decent young people, rank up there with our best astronauts .
This is one day in the rest of their lives, let them have their day in the sun.
Off topic: I heard that the new Lt. in 019 is already hooking up with someone from the desk. Wow he don't waste no time, swoop in and claim your territory huh. I know it's a big jump from being a sgt, as you already see lol. But hope you can see and treat the rest of us fair too. So be safe my fellow brothers in Blue, back each other up...
100 blocks? On a Wednesday? This isn't the Blackhawks parade. Great team, but it will be embarrassing when they drive miles with only a handful of people out there. Should be short and sweet. More Chicago political buffoonery.
It's great to see the White Sox throwing their complete support behind "America's Team". Looks like there will be a ceremony at US Cellular during the parade tomorrow.
It's a variation of 3 card monte.
Chicago Murder Mayor style:
Keep your eye on the Little Leaguers.
NOT on the EXECUTED 9 year old.
or
The shot dead in the back 14 year old.
Apathy is one thing...but it would have been a breath of fresh air to see your blog simply congratulate this team of 11-12 year olds...
We did. The day before. All fresh air and happy posting. Then a 12-mile parade? And you don't find that at all odd?
Governor Potato head & Mayor Arby's deli slicer will be on the first float fighting over the tv coverage. Nothing more, nothing less!
Why?
Who's paying for this?
Here is the Multimillion Dollar Question ? How much will this cost ?And WHO THE FUCK IS GOING TO PICK UP THE TAB !!!! Are they going to strongarm Corporate America ? Whom they loathe.
For God Sake just have a small parade around the park at 10500 s. Morgan. Rahm really needs your votes AA. BTW he gives a flyin fuck about you and your schools.
Keep the damn politicians away from this event.
12 mile parade and fuck up traffic all day. WTF This is a little league team. Don't care if they black or white. And they fuckin LOST!
When Rhammy was a kid he never played little league baseball. He was too busy fluttering around in his tutu. Crap.
Did you know that everyone buying a JRW tee shirt is automatically registered to vote?
A parade for the losing team.
Great.
It would be funny as hell if the kid's parents got together and said "shit on a parade" and just had a community celebration at the park... Which by no means dimishes what these kids accomplished but for them to be pimped by City Hall like this is WRONG!
And shame on you who keep the charade going by trying to slam the posters on this thread.
NOBODY has a problem celebrating these lads but Rahm and Quinn stealing their shine to electioneer is FUCKING SHAMEFUL!

You signed up for the military with the prospect of being sent to war, and you were paid a salary. You were not drafted.
The entitlement attitude if so many military veterans sickens me. I go to the job I signed up for everyday too. I do not want not expect a parade.
Get over yourself.
Make sure all the hookers at 76th and halsted wave!
Soo winning was important when they were winning when they lost all of a sudden winning isn't important.
They are a nice story, but they are a team that lost the national past time to Korea. Nice story but no they are not heroes. They are kids who are really good a baseball for their age.
I hope these kids grow up to be successful in life and not buy into the hype
Hey SCC, I'd let them go all the way to Rogers Park if these kids wanted to... I remember being that age and wanting so bad to be in that tournament, and to finally see a Chicago team get that deep is amazing. They should be celebrated because who knows when the next time is that we will see a team from this area do that. Good job kids.
SCC, I agree that the parade route is very long. But if these (already tired) kids want to walk it in celebration, with the people (and folks) of Chicago celebrating (peacefully), good for them! Nice to see kids working hard to achieve a goal. If there were more of that in *any* community we wouldn't have the troubles we are having with the current "gimme" generation.

Sorry Marine, but I have to agree here. You volunteered (and I applaud your service) for the military in a time of war. You must have had an idea that you would end up in the sandbox. You went, served honorably and returned safely. Good for you. It's time to move on and quit complaining about no parades and accolades. Stop looking for pats on the back. Your nation is grateful.
Before the rips start, I joined the Army at 18 in 1971, served three non combat years, came home, worked, eventually got on the job and retired after 28 years. No parades, a nice retirement party and the knowledge that I did my part.
That was good enough for a lot of us. It should be for you too.
You signed up for the military with the prospect of being sent to war, and you were paid a salary. You were not drafted.

AMEN, and Well Said!
Some these military goofs..."Look at me!" "I served!"
The shit gets old.
Hey you're a Marine act like one!!
Quit crying about not getting a parade.
A parade for the losing team.
Cubs/Sox having parades too?
Why stop at 100 blocks?
Will be watching newscasts. They might go into "breaking news" or "alert" mode for 90 minutes!
It is politics as it was when Hiz-zonner showed up at murdered child's house recently.
"Never miss an opportunity" gets old.
Still, congratulations to the children and the parents for something even the politicians do not see: VALUES!
Oh give them their glory besides that's the best baseball being played in the city right now lol
1102pm your an ass, they won The U.S. Title . They played hard and made us proud. Sure hope you don't have kids or coach any teams. This kids worked hard for what they achieved, they have proved with hard work and dedication you can succeed. I do believe the parade is extremely long , heard chicago QB Cutler donated signed jerseys for all the players.
WOW Rham knows how bad he needs the black vote, that's what this is all about. If you think otherwise yes you are an idiot.
Hell yes a parade for them and on parade day both Scrubs and Sux are 59-72.....Best team in Chicago deserves it.
Hell let them have a lousy day, its such a rare thing to have anything positive that come out of this... area, I'm proud that these kids are from Chicago, proud of what they accomplish..... I would be just as proud if these kids were from Jefferson Park, Little Village or Mount Greenwood
SCC... "These aren't astronauts. Or war heroes. Or lord knows what - they're kid ball players"... kid ball players that have shown light in this dim city. They're kids on a national platform that can serve as an example of what team work, perseverance, dedication, humility, strong family values and an involved community can produce. No, this was not suppose to be a celebration limited to a two block stroll through the neighborhood... this is a national celebration! I can only imagine the corporate sponsorship that will follow to many youth organizations throughout this city and throughout this country. There are other children who will be motivated and inspired. When kids do good, we should celebrate!
I'm just glad they didn't start any of it on time. The nine a.m. rally still hadn't started at 0945, so I was able to drive into downtown and get out before the much-delayed Millennium Park thing got started.

It's a Joke, this district is a Joke. But we have to keep on Trucking lol.
You're supposed to be grown men, act like it! Let these kids have their 15 minutes.
Hey if you don 't like where the St? Jude parade is don't go . The little league players deserve recognition . The are the Best Team in the U. S. A. They made us proud
PROFILES IN COURAGE:
kids playing baseball
Congratulations on some well played games and good sportsmanship.
Courageous? Perhaps in this case,it is an overused word.
The St. Jude parade has nothing to do with this... besides, Phil, one of our own put it there!

Been on the fence for awhile about what to do. You have just given me the green light next time bids come out. I'd like to be happier in my job again too.
They should have started the parade in Springfield to grant park,if you're going crazy go all out.
Little League players being awarded the Croix De Guerre?
"The Croix de Guerre (English translation: Cross of War) is a military decoration of France. It was first created in 1915 and consists of a square-cross medal on two crossed swords, hanging from a ribbon with various degree pins. The decoration was awarded during World War I, again in World War II, and in other conflicts. The Croix de guerre was also commonly bestowed on foreign military forces allied to France.
"The Croix de guerre may either be awarded as an individual or unit award to those soldiers who distinguish themselves by acts of heroism involving combat with the enemy. The medal is awarded to those who have been "mentioned in despatches", meaning a heroic deed or deeds were performed meriting a citation from an individual's headquarters unit. The unit award of the Croix de guerre with palm was issued to military units whose men performed heroic deeds in combat and were subsequently recognized by headquarters."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croix_de_guerre
This is more than a little "over the top."

---------------------------------------------------------
No IDIOT, that was my grandfather's generation of military. This generation SIGNED UP, then demands parades and special treatment upon return from WHAT THEY SIGNED UP FOR. After their 4 years of service, they have a lifetime of free health care while we fight for our pensions and health care AFTER working 30 years.
And as far as the "heroes" bit - that generation has come and gone. Most of the crybabies coming back telling everyone their "war stories" were mechanics, paper pushers, or "deployed in combat" staring at a radar screen waiting for a phone call to push a button and fire a missile from an air conditioned building 100 miles from the people who were engaged in true combat. And these "vets" are the ones screaming loudest for every parade and as much ass kissing as they can get. For what they volunteered, were paid, get free college if they want it, and free lifetime health care.
I have no ill will toward anyone who has served in our military. But this "they shouldn't have a parade because we didn't" attitude is embarrassing. My grandfather, who fought in actual combat in a war that actually meant something, would NEVER have said something like that. And I assure you, whether today's vets VOLUNTEERED (and were paid) or not, I assure you we would not be speaking Farsi, Dari, Arabic, or any other language. So you can get off that one too. What would happen is I would pay more for gasoline, and ultimately this country of lazy asses would make the adjustment like every place in the world where gas is 2-3 times the price we pay, who doesn't ask its people to volunteer for wars over oil (and not give them parades when they feel they are owed).
Again, get over yourself. You're not a war hero because previous generations who were drafted (hats right, they served and were treated like REAL CRAP upon their return) into crappy political nonsense (Vietnam, Korea) or fought wars of world wide historical significance were just because you're all "military". Some people aren't the kool aid drinkers that will kiss your a** and lump you all into the same category and treat you like a hero like you want. Earn your keep back here in reality just like every other respectable persona and you'll get respect.
And for the record I believe a 10 mile parade for little league is more than a little extreme too, and I'm not condoning it.

I'm sorry your participation trophy doesn't match winning the Little League championship. Jagoff!
I'm surprised the parents aren't offended by being called "inner city". These kids come from nice neighborhoods, have working parents and live in nice homes? If anything they are advantaged. Congrats to the dedicated parents and coaches but the media needs to stop selling the poor, disadvantaged, inner city, black kids BS.
Thats the longest Safe Passage route yet
