Can We Close the Airports Yet?

At least a dozen African countries shut down air travel to their cities and guess what they don't have? Ebola. Or Ebola scares. But the United States won't do that because "racism" you know. And guess what we have?
  • Two people who arrived at O'Hare International Airport from Liberia have been placed under observation at Chicago hospitals, under the city's procedures for handling Ebola, after they fell ill during their flights, officials said.

Health officials stressed that "at this time there have been no confirmed cases of Ebola and there is no threat to the general public."

In fact, the officials said they decided against testing the two for Ebola after initial medical evaluations but did initially send them to Lurie Children's Hospital and Rush University Medical Center. The child was later transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center for observation.
That's good news and in practical terms, it gives the hospitals a chance to practice their protocols.

Now how about First Responders? Where's that ambulance? Has it been run through a decontamination drill? The paramedics? How about CPD arriving at the airplane? The airplane itself? These are questions that the media seem all to happy to avoid asking but really ought to be asked to at least give the impression that (A) the media is watching the political theater and (B) politicians are actually taking this seriously.

On a related note, we finally got our Ebola training from the Department. A two-page note from downtown saying "refer to the Special Order, call CFD and SWAT." Wow. We feel so safe now.

It is amazing that the strategy in the fight against Ebola is to funnel possible carriers into major population centers. Why not have them brought into the country through lesser populated areas.

Our compassionate POTUS says no flight ban, the friendly skies from ebola land to the USA will stay open. Also, right after the election he is going to grant amnesty to up to 30 million illegal aliens. Mr. Obama promised change and he is delivering.

Story on ABC News last night like they're really bringing the hammer down; they're letting people in from The Hot Zone, asking them questions (as we know from Duncan The Index Case, no one ever lies) and then giving them a thermometer and a pamphlet and telling them to keep a log, to self-report for 21 days!

"...and if they don't call in every day, we will go and find them."

You can't even tell us where half of the Central American trainhoppers, the UACs, "Unaccompanied Alien Children," are. Sitting there piously waiting for them to show up for an immigration hearing on their own hook.

Don't hold your breath.

No entry to North Korea

"A pair of Beijing-based agencies that specialize in travel to North Korea say they've been told by their "partners in Pyongyang" that the nation won't allow international tourists to enter starting Friday, due to the threat of Ebola. It's not clear whether the restriction affects business travelers."

There is a massive cover up going on. I think a lot more people have gotten Ebola than what the news has reported. The White House tells the corporate media to not to tell the truth to prevent panic.

Obama wont ban flights from west Africa because of "political correctness". Europe too. This is insane and disgusting behavior!!!

Time to VOTE out the politically correct party !!

I'd filter them through Reagan airport and use the Capitol Rotunda for Customs and Immigration.

CPD's ebola training was researched and considered by the experts to be all that was necessary considering the threat to the CPD officers. It is important that the U.S. makes visitors from overseas feel welcome and that we not appear racist.

The argument that shutting down the flights from Ebola-land is racist such COMPLETE bullshit.

As I explained to a liberal douche-bag recently, I dont give a fuck if the infection site was Germans in Germany (I have to be of German origin), SICK PEOPLE ARE SICK PEOPLE AND YOU DON'T WANT THEM HERE. WTF is so hard to understand about that?

Even the recently instituted USG procedures of limiting arrivals to 5 particular airports aint gonna do shit.

1. People can be be infected but show NO symtoms for the first 2-41 days. Airport temperature taker aint gonna do shit for that.

2. While Ebola presents with a number of common symptoms, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unusual bleeding, this is a not always the case. More specifically, fever is not always present. And fever can also be masked by the use of analgesics.

3. At Ebola current and projected rate of infection (10,000 new cases a week happening soon), this is FAR in excess of our capacity to either deliver drugs or treatment facilities. Like a dragster versus a bicycle. We will never catch up. We can only wait until, like a wildfire, it simply burns itself out.

4. Quarantine is the only remedy that is available now and will actually do some good. Critics argue that it wont be 100% effective and some people will still sneak thru. True. But if it will stop 8 out of 10 people, that is a HUGE statistical reduction. But of course liberals are mathematical retards. Washing your hands is not 100% effective against preventing the flu, but that doesn't mean I don't do that either.

5. Stopping the flights might also serve another useful purpose. Just who in the hell is going to pay the medical costs for all these people? You think they got cash? No. You think they got insurance? No. So us taxpayers get stuck with the tab. Libtards think this is all OK because government is supposed to take care of us. I say bullshit. If you didn't let them in in the first place, we would not be stuck with their health care costs. Or at least ship the motherfuckers back to their country of origin.

6. For hard-hitting coverage of the Ebola issue, see http://shepherdofthegurneys.blogspot.com/
If you like SCC, you'll like this site, guaranteed.

STOP THE FLIGHTS - NOW!.

On the other hand, why not go forward with the Liar-In-Chief's program. Much better to not inconvenience 50 shitheads arriving daily, than to actually protect the health of 316 Million AMERICAN citizens right?

When this thing goes bad - and it will - Barack Obola and the entire Democratic Party will OWN it. And that my friend will be the demise and death knell of Obola and the Democrats.

Bring it on, baby!

Call the next case. Not a cop.

Yes, the world is a safe, orderly place, running like a Swiss watch, in the hands of "experts," and everything happens for good reasons that we will not be vouchsafed due to our inability to understand much. Don't worry, be happy.

These comments -- all of them -- are among the most rigid, mindless defenses of enforced, stifling, politically-correct "consensus reality" that I've ever seen. I suppose that people who never leave the house can content themselves with the warm feeling of self-righteousness that derives from being a tiny, cringing lapdog to Authority.

Things are a lot different out in reality. Trust me on that.

Hopeless. This one here could be the plaything in a game of "Point Out, Knock Out," and he'd still ascribe his own personal cement-sidewalk-induced skull fracture and subdural hematoma to "cultural differences."

Do others think this Ebola plague coming to America is starting to look more and more like the Walking Dead series?

I can't believe no GOP governor has revolted against the Obama admin and simply stated that his state will do what most Africa countries have done:

End people from Ebola plague regions from traveling to their state.

Emergency dispatchers in New York were likewise told to use codewords to refer to suspected Ebola cases over the radio and were not allowed to reveal information on any of the cases handled by first responders.

“At no point shall a dispatcher transmit over the radio any message containing the word ‘Ebola’ or related terminology,” a New York Fire Department bulletin stated.

Instead dispatchers were told to use the code letters “F/T,” for Fever/Travel, to indicate that a 911 caller had a fever and a history of travel to West Africa.

They are leaving open the flights not to avoid racism but because the experts say shutting it down will make it harder to get medical people in and out of there to help stop the epidemic at the source. I don't understand, though, why the military couldn't fly people in and out of there on transports. They could even set up flights in and out on a regular schedule. It would not be a problem. So why do we need to allow commercial airline travel? I don't think they've explained that.

So the Chicago Ebola cases turned out not to be Ebola, but the NY one is for real. If you go to the Trib website right now, there is a picture of a guy, standing outside the hospital doors, and he is ... a first responder in uniform. Good luck to you guys and I hope they come up with a better training protocol so you at least know when to stay away from these folks.

I recommend a few things: First, I would take cellophane and lay it across the screen between you and the back seat. A sneeze-guard, if you will, if a suspect should develop symptoms when he's in your unit. Second, I would wear two pair of latex gloves at all times when dealing with the public. Get training on how to take them on and put them off, and on how to dispose of them. Third, are you required to transport people who are showing flu symptoms, or can you call a rescue ambulance and have the EMTs evaluate the person. I don't know, I'm not a cop. But I guess if the guy is vomiting or blowing snot all of the place, I'd try to stay away if I can, give him a pass -- if I can. Finally, if he's bleeding out of his pores or every orifice, he probably has Ebola and you ought to call that in. Don't forget to use the secret code word, "Zombie."

So this is what the World Health Organization said about why no travel ban:

"A general travel ban is likely to cause economic hardship, and could consequently increase the uncontrolled migration of people from affected countries, raising the risk of international spread of Ebola," it said.

The economic hardship? Who cares? I say let 'em endure the hardship. But the second concern is a little more difficult to dismiss. If exit by air were banned, then isn't it possible or even likely that these folks would flood out of their countries so then can enter our country from third countries? We'd have to ban all incoming international travel, and that just isn't feasible. Is it? (It might cause economic hardship.)
