What's The Point of This?

  • Nine months after a nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, not a single cop has been disciplined for letting Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko get away for nearly 10 years with killing David Koschman.

And many of them can’t be punished because they no longer work for the city.

Dan K. Webb, the court-appointed special prosecutor who won Vanecko’s conviction in January, identified 53 police personnel involved in two botched investigations of Koschman’s death.
Fifty-three people bearing some form of blame? That's a lot of blame spread pretty thin.
  • After Webb wrapped up his investigation, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration asked City Hall Inspector General Joseph Ferguson to determine whether any police officers should be disciplined for their roles in the Koschman case. Police Supt. Garry McCarthy is awaiting Ferguson’s recommendations.

But only 21 of the cops and other police officials identified by Webb remain on the city payroll, still subject to possible disciplinary action. Their salaries total more than $2.2 million a year.

Twenty-eight others have retired and are collecting pensions totaling $2.6 million a year. Another has died, one is on disability, and two others have left the department.
And just who are these fifty-three? Go see the article for the list, but get a load of these names that Fusco and Novak pin the tail on:
  • Cmdr. William O’Donnell
  • Cmdr. Michael Chasen
  • Cmdr. James Gibson
  • Supt. Phil Cline
  • Thomas Epach (Cline Assistant)
  • Dep. Supt. Hiram Grau
  • Chief of Detectives James Molloy
  • Deputy Chief of Detectives Richard Kobel
  • Supt. Jody Weis
  • General Counsel Debra Kirby
  • Chief of Staff Michael G. Masters Masters Masters
  • Deputy Supt. Steven Peterson
  • Chief of Detectives Thomas Byrne
  • Deputy Chief of Detectives Constantine “Dean” Andrews
  • Cmdr. Gary Yamashiroya
  • Cmdr. Joseph Salemme
  • Deputy Supt. Ernest Brown
And that's just the civilians and exempt ranks. Good luck pinning any blame on those folks. The Dicks and Sergeants and Lieutenants listed are like a "Who's Who" of meri-clout-orious favors granted. Together, their clout must outweigh several pods of oceanic whales. And why exactly does their salary or overtime or pension have anything to do with the investigation? Or is that just extraneous information included to prejudice and inflame the public?

Novak and Fusco have turned the spotlight from the Daley Nephew to the Police. All 53 of 'em surely didn't do cover up....and how about the Officer who escorted the victim's body to the morgue...how much cover-up could he do?? The latest Novak And Fusco article seems to have lost it's merit....like the Reporters are just trying to keep their own names in the lime-light.

Where is the pension money?

Where is thr pension money?

Where is the pension money?

Where is the photo spread or expose on Eric. Zorn, the Trib editor and publishers , and Northwestern Innocent Project /David Prowess? You know the parties responsible for railroading and imprisoning an innocent man for fifteen years.
Where is the photo spread or expose on Rauner and the Sun Times management lackeys that forced a reporter to retire following the expose of Rauner, who not only was a part owner of the Times, but was endorsed by the Times as well.
The reason why your papers are headed for bankruptcy and failure is no intelligent reader buys into the bias lies misrepresentations that your rags regularly spew out.

It's not over yet Koschman's attorney's filed an appeal. What is interesting is that when a murder does occur as a detective usually the only contact you have is with your sergeant and lieutenant may the Commander but the Koschman case had over fifty people involved, nothing wrong here. WTF.

On that list also is a beat cop who got the original police call and wrote the case report. What blame does he have? Also the crew that transported the body and the north side ET who took photographs.

Anybody, it seems, who touched or looked at a report even remotely related with that case was named in the Sun-Times.

I will contact the Department tomorrow and name myself because I was working downstairs at 019 at the time and was also breathing and drawing a paycheck as a 9161 police officer. Might as well jack up that salary and pension total a bit more and it will give me a reason to jump on the lawsuit against the Sun-Times.

What total bullshit. No wonder the Sun-Times is down to 12 pages on some days.

If they had written an article in which they spoke of the benefits that a current or retired officer was receiving that actually participated in the investigation, I'd get it. Look, I can't stand retired sergeant P.M. as much as anyone else that had the displeasure of meeting him, but to start naming the officer that took the initial report, and the supervisor that approved it is overkill. Half the names on that list had next to nothing to do with the coverup. It really made the article feel desperate as if they were grasping at straws. I agree with the Sun Times; it was terrible how this went down, but all it really does is show how good the elite of this world have it. You have idiot coppers tripping all over themselves to try and help the Daleys. SMH

Supt. Phil Cline — city’s top cop when Koschman was punched. Retired August 2007. Pension: $162,972.

Now heads not-for-profit Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Pay: $115,707 in 2012.

Cline is taking $115K from the Memorial Fund in addition to his $163K pension.

According to the IRS 990 form filed by the CPMF in 2013 they took in $1.75 million

They spent
$300K in salaries
$271K in "Fundraising Expenses"
$369K in "Other Expenses"
------
$940K or 53% of revenues

They provided a total of $542K in aid to officers/families or 30% of revenues

I find it amazing that a "Not for Profit" foundation manages to spend over half its revenues on salaries and expenses. Especially considering the majority of the revenues are from direct grant monies and complete volunteer run fundraising efforts by CPD members. I also find it unacceptable that it spends nearly TWICE as much on salaries and "expenses" as it actually expends in its declared purpose.

That is exactly why I will no longer donate to the fund. My money will go to the 100 Club and fundraising events for individual officers in need.

What I found ridiculous and completely pointless was them mentioning everyone they named salaries and pensions? What the Hell does that have to do with anything??
If they want to go that route why not expose the biggest fish in the coverup...Shortshanks. They could then mention the 3 government pensions he's collecting that total about $180,000.
Seems to me the Sun Times is following Rahm's orders again. RAHM wants everyone to believe that our pensions are the problem. This is a precursor of things to come when Rahm joins his buddy Bruce in an all out attack on public servants and their benefits.

Ferguson should look into this, RIGHT AFTER he is allowed to investigate aldermanic allegations.

When it comes back that there was no outright police conspiracy, or a weak 'guilt by inference' only and McCarthy rightfully does nothing, it will play right into Rham's plan to replace him right before the election. (Black or Hispanic depending what group he needs most for re-election)
Like Emmanuel was quoted as saying, 'Never let a tragedy go to waste.'

I say let a true unbiased investigator from somewhere south of Effingham or north of Sheboygan who cringe with anger at the mere mention of the Daley name do an investigation into this cover up and if anybody is found to have fudged something then fire them and yank their pension. Since the majority of the list is/was a boss just think of the savings. A thorough investigation will show that the paper car, sgt that approved, the ET and all the other low level people who still have a clean soul had no part in this and should be rewarded. Firing and/or losing a pension will get a few of them to start pointing the finger at who is really responsible for this. For all of you who knowingly participated, a big hearty FUCK YOU!

The P.O.s who responded should actually be commended, because if it was not for them, this case would have been suspended as a real "who-dun-it." The P.O.s chased down Vanecko's friends (also very clouted people) and got enough information from them that led to Vanecko.

There's no way they did anything wrong. Everything unethical (and immoral) about this case began above the D-1 pay grade.

This is why I have NEVER contributed to the fund. I have sent personal checks to those in need, I have donated when I know the money goes directly to the person, but I am very selective when it comes to 'funds' and 'charitable organizations'.

I don't mind administrators getting a small salary, but too many 'funds' are just ways to line the pockets of those who run them.

I wouldn't contribute a dime to Fat Phil's fund. You have to know his history. He escaped corruption indictment by the skin of his teeth early in his career. The fed's were vocally opposed to his appointment as Superintendent because they knew his background. When he was Supt., he took care of all his cronies. He actually promoted an patrolman who could barely read or write to Deputy Chief. That was done simply to boost his pension. So, think about that when they're talking about messing with your pension. There's a patrolman out there collecting a Dept. Chief's pension, thanks to the generosity of Phil.

This listing of Police pay, overtime compensation and pension compensation as some sort of fruit from the poison tree of a possible criminal conspiracy without a clearly delineated connection to the main architect (Daley) himself who has so far AVOIDED being compelled to give any statement or testimony?

The listed officers should retain counsel and sue the pants off the Sun-Times reporters and editorial board into knee knocking poverty for defamation, libel and slander.

This shit is nothing more than beating on The Police because the anal-whore media thinks The Police have rules against fighting back.

Shit or get off the fucking pot, Novak!

Use your "investigative reporting" prowess to prove Daley's connection to this sordid mess once and for all and stop this incessant trying to dirty-up The Police just because some clouted BOSSES may have intervened to short circuit a criminal investigation to protect a Daley family member.
