Officers Stripped
- Two Chicago Police officers have been stripped of their arrest powers and placed on desk duty pending an investigation into a racially motivated fight that left a sergeant with severe head injuries, a department spokesman said Friday.
On Oct. 30, the officers [...] entered an elevator with the sergeant when he made a racially disparaging comment to a group of African-Americans going to a wedding at City Hall, witnesses alleged.
Everyone notice how the word "allegedly" is added into the last part of the sentence - almost as an afterthought - as if there's already been a finding against the sergeant at the start of that paragraph. Stripping two witness officers though? This thing is getting smellier by the hour.

They were so offended by the officer's remarks that they stole his gun? No matter what was said, it's still a strong-arm robbery.
This whole situation is so messed up. First the offenders commit an aggravated battery. Then they say he said something racial and their actions were forgiven. Now the two PO's who were with him are stripped because their friend MAY have said something that hurt the offenders feelings. What is wrong with this city?

At least the department released the news at 5 pm on a friday afternoon, typically a slow time for the media, as the weekend is coming and hopefully the media will move on to other stuff by Monday . . . .

In this country, freedom of speech is cherished, and also allowed by the First Amendment to the Constitution. So even if, and that is a very big IF, the sergeant made some inconsiderate remark, so the fuck what? Get over it, asshole. It in no way exonerates, allows, or justifies a felony crime to be committed as a result. Why are these assholes not locked up yet?

If the officers did use racial profanities, shame on them. But, this does not justify attacking a person and leaving him in the hospital. If the officer violated Department policy, investigate and take the appropriate action based on the findings of an impartial and fair investigation.
What bothers me is the double standard. Officers use racial slurs but did not commit a crime. Officers white. Black commander charged with a crime gets to keep his guns and work at HQ while still making exempt pay. the Superintendent defends him in the media. Did the officers get to keep their guns? Where is the Superintendent saying these officers are innocent until the investigation is complete.
Why is it that a certain racial group can use a certain racial slur when referring to each other and it's okay but when another racial group uses the same racial slur it gives the other group the right to commit acts of violence?
They'll want no charges in this case.........but wanted to hang Vanecko. There is no excuse for the violence.

However I can't see any connection to your bitter resentful comment about "merit" over "list" promotions.
Now I am just a blue shirt, and I don't ever see that changing, but to think the "list" is any better than the "merit" is stupid. Both systems are very broken and neither really seem to prove who is the best candidate for leadership and supervision, not to mention the monetary raise. I can think of at least 2 people I know that will be in the first class off the new list and I would want NOTHING to do with working for them. It took 7 months for the testing company and the city to manipulate the scores and create the numbers they found acceptable, that is blatantly ridiculous. Basically what I am saying is that "list" based on the testing doesn't always prove to be any better than some of the "merit" hacks allowed to progress in this job.

This version of the story told by the "witnesses" (co-defendants) seems unlikely. Who would say that in an elevator full of black people? Sounds like some good coaching from a plaintiff's attorney. This is a skillful lawyer's attempt to turn the beating and robbery of a police sergeant's gun into a lawsuit where the offenders do not get charged and get paid at the same time. If you think plaintiff's attorneys don't coach and help manufacture their client's story then you've never dealt with them.
The minimum wage is only for those over 18 years old and that is not McDonalds' workers only.
Civil lawsuit brewing..Remember 4 taken into custody and released without charges. Civil tort is wrongful arrest. Punitive damages possible.

Comments of this sort keep popping up. Really, how DOES something like this happen? Well, It's just like SCC stated; things continue to get fishy. Obviously something isn't adding up and the "said something racist" isn't all that happened on the officers ends. Or maybe it is(or didn't happen at all). We don't know. None of us know what happened, and if the OFFENDERS statement is true than the Officers involved will have to answer to that. But let us not forget one simple fact that does hold true...just because someone calls you a name, racial or otherwise, does not give you the authority to follow that person, beat him within an inch of his life and then STEAL his gun and take off. You people read that last part? The firearm was stolen!! How many times in a night are you called every name in the book while working? Is it ok for you to then tune up that person and commit a Robbery? How about off duty? You would be thrown off this job and charged. And it wouldn't make a bit of difference that the person you battered called you a name.

2. call for an ambulance for this injured Sergeant
3. notify O.E.M.C who you are, where are you at, description of any offender(s) and vehicle involved! and WHAT JUST HAPPENED!
4. Protect the crime scene until a Supervisor arrives! Who now has supervisory responsibility for the crime scene!

When things like this happen, some of you need to read up on what a hate crime actually is.
to 11:50 pm if the guy wanted a PPK your suggestion of a glock 42 would be spot on as both are in .380. HOWEVER, a P-38 is chambered in 9mm parabellum so a suggestion towards a 9mm glock/tupperware affair would be more in order. Lenard Clar didn't say anything and he was beat unconscious and still kicked after that. He suffered brain damage and spent time in a coma. 1 of the 3 went to prison. You're talking about "reverse" this like history doesn't record more of the "reverse." Good luck on that one.

What bothers me is the double standard. Officers use racial slurs but did not commit a crime. Officers white. Black commander charged with a crime gets to keep his guns and work at HQ while still making exempt pay. the Superintendent defends him in the media. Did the officers get to keep their guns? Where is the Superintendent saying these officers are innocent until the investigation is complete.
That commander was doing police work, not taking an early duck, getting drunk on the city's dime, using racial epithets , filing false reports or standing by while a sgt was getting beatened or robbed.
Assume the Supt and City hall has far more info on that commander's case than you or the idiot media would ever have.
and as to the racial bias, wait until you see what else is going to materialize in that commander's case...

At the end of the news story, the arrestee's attorney said that the police should have identified themselves as such and it would have stopped further violations of the law. Really? I would think that if a gang was beating down a citizen, then announcing to the gang that said citizen was also a police officer might just make things worse for the victim. Maybe I'm just too cynical....

Hey asshole, me putting my life, house and family on the line warrants that wage. We are marriage counselors, lawyers, doctors,shell answer man and once in a while we turn into firemen.So add up those skills and see how much we should be paid..

You guys defending these goofs will be eating crow when all the facts are done rolling in. Have you forgotten in "29 and a day" that we have rules, both on and off duty that we're bound to follow? Does "held to a higher standard" ring a bell? Hate to say it but these assclowns effed up bigtime. Some guys never seem to learn that they're not invincible after a few cocktails and that the piece of tin in their pocket isn't a carte Blanche pass to act like fools. They want to - AND WILL - make an example of these guys, and they have all the ammo they need to do so. FACT. And I'll be the first to say "told you so" as this latest black eye to CPD unfolds.

Plenty of quiet neighborhood joints to drink in. But, they stayed downtown. Were probably on the clock, too. For a lousy 4 hours they are going to screw themselves. If you are downtown or in the ghetto the chances of something fucked up happening go way up.
