- Cupich, during Sunday Mass at Holy Name Cathedral, invited all to join him in prayer and raise their hands in a show of support for the protesters while seated.

Evidently, the archbishop's time in the northwest affected his brain. Anyone who contributes a dime to the church or an hour of their time to an organization that has declared their allegiance to the mob, is, quite frankly, a fool.

I knew Cupich was an asshole the second I heard him praise Pfather Pfaker. Subsequent interviews and the crap that came out of his mouth just confirmed my suspicions as to just how far the archdiocese has fallen.

If the Catholic Church does not present the gospel truthfully then it should come as no surprise that they are being untruthful and misleading here. This is an opportunity for them to feel relevant, hip, and getting on the bandwagon against the police to get approval of man, and the world when such things are expressly spoken against by God in the Holy Bible. These events have also been an opportunity for other evangelical leaders and Christians to " stand with" these protestors which clearly reveals the true feelings of the heart. Many Christians have not jumped on this anti police crusade but some have along with the Catholic Church, and it's quite revealing. Remember it's not about social justice, it's not in the Bible, but it's about righteousness, and truth, and adhering to it regardless of what the world or man thinks. I'm still a Catholic, but enough is enough. I don't feel like I am leaving the church; I feel like the Church has left me. I am not surprised, but I am very disappointed.
I was educated in Catholic Schools that no longer exist, Pompeii for grade school and St. Mel for high school. Even then it was obvious that the Church was leaning to the Left, and eventually it was too far Left for me. I am now in my 60's, retired from the job and longing for the comfort once afforded by Holy Mother Church. I was planning to return until I attended a baptism at St. Gertrude on the North Side of Chicago. The priest started talking about Ferguson as if it was an assassination! I couldn't believe it, and my wife who endured decades of being a cop's wife, was so angry I had to hold onto her to keep her from walking out! We cannot be Catholic anymore, because the Church is wrong.
Though I do not support the political agenda of some "Church Leaders" I cannot in good concious remove my monetary support nor my investment in time to the Church's good work. There are many a good Catholics that everyday dedicate themselves to Gods good work, yes, the Church is not perfect , but neither are any of you. In many ways, you the commentators are no different than Archbishop Cupich. None of you had the courage to speak for Faith and truth, all of you just followed the herd. We all expect more from SCC readers and commentators.

I would not give up on the Catholic Church just yet. As an observer, there seems to be a battle going on in the church (much like in the country) between the ideology of the Father Pleger's of this world and that of a Father Barron/ Father Brandt -(Police Chaplain).. With the media siding with the former.. Just hold the Archbishop accountable for what he says.. He is not stronger then the flock.
What was the end of the church for me was way back when I learned that catholic charities was paying for lawyers for Cop killers! Now it's a long list of grievances.

The Lutherans are beginning to look good?!?! That was hilarious. On a separate note I'm protestant and just this past Sunday our congregation joined others in marching to the local pd. Me and two other off duties were sitting there like deer in headlights. I'm not leaving my church because a bunch of non cops don't understand my job. We didn't march but we did what we do everyday..we took care of each other. It was clear that all three of us were stunned and had some kind of hurt and isolation. That was followed by a "what you think about Ferguson" question at a family dinner....I went on a tangent for an hour an a half battling everyone that dared step up. If you despair of the Roman Catholic church, you should look into the Eastern Orthodox church, with which it was once in communion (for the first 11 centuries of Christianity). They share about 90% of their basic theology, but the EO are staunch traditionalists. Or, you could start attending traditional Latin mass at St John Cantius on west Chicago Avenue; you'd be among a clergy that very likely agrees with you that Cupich is a disaster. Don't let stupid people rob you of your precious faith. We all need it now more than ever.

Lighten up Francis. The new archbishop, like the new Pope, are socialists. I attend mass at a small Indian mission church near Hayward WI and I can assure you that you will not hear any socialist diatribe from the pulpit. Just be selective about the parish you support. I earmark my collection envelope "parish maintenance fund" and know my contributions remain at St . Paul of the Cross and never go to Father Phleger .

Rather, the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church was founded by the savior. The priests have been given the power to forgive sins! The priests' ability to forgive sins, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is not dependent upon their personal righteousness or good sense. Same for their ability to offer the holy sacrifice of the mass, bringing Jesus physically to the congregation; and giving God his due.
The Catholic Church is NOT a book club or a venue for Sunday entertainment like some big suburban theater. She alone holds the keys of salvation, as given to Peter by Jesus. Just because a building occupant puts out a sign that says "church" does not make it so.

Do not bid to 005 for these hours, we were told they will be city wide in 2016. The Supe and city want to eliminate the midnite crew and go to just 2 watches..days and afternoons
Now that we have furlough by watch it really limits your choices since 1st watch is now included in 3rd watch..Midnite people will be forced to go to days or afternoons..the late start is from 8pm til 6am but they are considered afternoons
So instead of working manageable hours like 2 to 11, early cars start @ 430pm and work till 3am
Also 005 will be included in the infamous "squad policing" program

Impossible to eliminate midnight shift with ten hour days. You must be new, 005 and 020 had the ten hour days five years ago and most loved it. It was really hard to bid into either district. Only way to eliminate first watch is to make it a 12-hour day. And that is not on the table. Quit crying.

The department feels if you can work 4:30pm to 3:00am for overtime why not work it everyday. Thanks all you asshole vri people. No more vri now you can work those hours everyday at straight pay.
As for 10 hour days Dean has stated this is a good thing for the department and is onboard with it.

I sent an email voicing my disgust in what the Archbishop did during his mass in support of that thug Brown. I basically wrote that he dishonored every police officer who has been killed in the line of duty and therefore he is a disgrace to all law enforcement and including law abiding citizens. Everyone here needs to voice their disgust to the church. I really hope that our police religious chaplains get involved and voice their outrage as well.

With 3 days off some weeks and when you get your weekend you have 3 weeks in a row of 4 days off. I worked these hours before and they are the BEST thing going!!!! THE BEST!! I'm black myself and throughout parochial school, having several friends and family attend Catholic school, military service and college I can only REMEMBER two black friends that actually identified themselves as Catholic and neither of them even attended mass as far as I know. It might suit you better to speak about individual denominations for these "minority" groups because you will see a complete contrast of your naive assertion. And I just go to a little church in the hood with a pastor who made more 20 years ago than we pay him now...because he funnels all the offerings back into the people and the building.

I never ran into Rabbi Wolf when I didn't leave smiling. That guy has a way of putting a smile on a policeman's face right when you need it. Great man.
