Another Shooting
- At least one person was shot by a Chicago Police officer Sunday evening in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The Independent Police Review Authority was called to the scene of the shooting about 6:45 p.m. near 111th and Spaulding, said [a spokesman].
Chicago Police did not immediately release details on the shooting.
Gee, almost like a war on police - anyone going to march for us?

Try this on for size:
#1 - Off duty MP copper sees someone come close to striking an illegal flower vendor, someone who shouldn't be on the ramp in the first place. Didn't hit him. Didn't even brush him. Follows him, honking his horn, flashing his brights, whatever. Emergency situation needing an immediate response? Not really. Follow and call it in.
#2 - off duty cop sees someone shoot another person directly in front of him. Then the offender is waving the gun around in a threatening manner, placing numerous bystanders in IMMEDIATE JEOPARDY of receiving a bullet. Immediate response? Damn right it is. You wait, people are going to get shot.
Big difference, right asshat? But you knew that. Go play in traffic child. If you think the situations are even remotely similar, you need far more help that we're able to give you.

I still have my sig p226 with an 11lb trigger pull. Trigger heavy, but feels good in hand.
If those NBA and NFL players want to show their support for criminals who resist the police, I say lets boycott all NBA and NFL games and their advertisers.

For duty and off-duty carry in semi-auto, shot placement is critical and bullet construction is crucial.
(Anybody remember the old 9mm 147gr subsonic hollow points that zipped through offenders like ball rounds?)
We have big, tough and ornery criminals in this town so you would want a bullet with a tough, bonded pre-cut jacket for deep penetration and expansion. Golden Saber and Gold Dots. Make ours .45 ACP +P in 230gr. @ 1000 fps for winter and 185gr. @ 1200 fps for summer. Thank you very much...
The .40 S&W is said to split the difference of the velocity of the 9mm and the weight of the .45 ACP.
Police administrators were squeamish about the 10mm
(which the .40 S&W is derived from) because the FBI (which had adopted the 10mm in the wake of the Miami Shoot-Out) had problems with their agents adapting to the power of the round and the large pistols that fired it.
For those who have a .38 snubbie (every streetwise copper has one or two) the 158gr. soft lead swchp with a gas check and driven to 1000 fps is where this round begins to really shine.
There's a 158gr. hard cast "Keith" round that's loaded at 1250 fps & 550+ foot pounds but that load is a reboot of the old .38/.44 S&W Heavy Duty load for the big frame ca. early 1930's revolvers before the .357 came to be in 1934-35.
Just for the record the gunman was white, son of Irish immigrants and grew up in Oak Lawn. I was acquainted with him many years ago. Back then he liked to drink and fight, guess he never changed. I hope the victim makes a full recovery, and the officer did the right thing.

This comment is mostly directed towards the dig that was taken to compare the Merrionette Park scenario to this one. And the repulsive comments I read on truenews from other cops before the comments section thankfully got closed down.
I'm not a cop, but I have the utmost respect for them. They've frequented my parents establishment since it opened in a pretty rough part of Chicago and we've taken care of them, and for that, they've taken care of us.
With that being said, I've been following this story on multiple news sites and blogs. First, the things that other officers are saying about this officer are disgusting. You all should be downright ashamed. When it comes down to it, you only have each other out there on those streets and we all know those assholes on those streets don't give a shit about you or yours, so I would be careful about the hatred you publicly spew about your fellow officers...you might need them one day. I for one, would want this one on my side.
Secondly, if any of you are claiming that you go anywhere without your guns when you're off-duty, simply put, most of you are lying. So let's not start throwing stones if we're not without sin.
Third, if any of you are claiming that you would have done anything differently than this cop did, then perhaps you don't deserve the title of "officer." Thank God this officer didn't think about himself first and a potential investigation, the potential backlash, the haters like some of you are being, etc. he saw a situation, he handled it and he prevented further loss of life. If anything, he lead by example. Perhaps you could learn something rather than sit behind a keyboard and scrutinize and post anonymously on multiple blogs all day. And what if he hadn't done anything? What then? What would you all have said when he just called it in, knowing he had his weapon on him but he was in a bar and possibly had a drink (we still don't know if he had been drinking or not) and just sat back and let this man empty a few more bullets into his victim or just start taking out other people too? Then you'd have something to say about that. It's bad enough the general public and media has you damned if you do and damned if you don't, but now you guys are doing it to each other?
Do you think the general public isn't reading these blogs? You want them to respect the police as a whole? You're not even being respectful of one another. If this is how you treat one another in a time like this, how can you expect the public to treat you any better, especially when the media is the one portraying you guys as the criminals? Half of the comments I read on other blogs had the intelligence and tact equivalent to the thugs you deal with. Can you please explain this round in more detail. I was under the impression that a sub sonic round, was traveling below the speed of sound, at least a lot slower than the higher velocity 9mm's. Wouldn't that make the round do the opposite? Wouldn't a higher velocity faster round go through like Swiss cheese? I've always heard the 147 gr. was horseshit. But this 125 gr.HP is the cats ass.

I prefer my Beretta PX4 .45 cal. Not too big or heavy, but action is smooth, with damn near no recoil due to rotating barrel design. Check it out.

Thank you for your support. I think when expressing your thoughts you should limit them to the SCC audience and not include those other sites.
I don't know what your establishment does, but I'm sure you know how to run it better than your clientele although that never rules out the occasional suggestion. I'm pretty sure your profession does not undergo the kind of scrutiny ours does, especially in recent times (the past ten years or so).
It is fortunate that everything worked out at the bar, but if a bystander had been hit it would have been the standard crucifiction of the officer that we have seen as late. You've been drinking, you shouldn't have had your gun, you should have just called 911. We are not paranoid about being vilified, it is happening daily. Society, through the media and the liberal left politicians have imposed this "damned if you do, damned if you don't" mentality on us.
Does this site somewhat reflect the CPD, yes. Keep in mind though as you said anyone can read this site and anyone can write on this site. The uglier comments may not be police at all. Regardless, freedom of speech is not limited to what is politically correct.
Finally, if you want to express your support for us we would be better served if you did so by contacting the media and your politicians. If the silent majority became the squeaky wheel we wouldn't be on the defensive all the time.
I agree! 5 shot 38 snub revolver with golden saber +P rounds. Been carrying one for years. Test fired annually and never a problem. Those rounds are hot and without a doubt will effectively make the appropriate level of penetration to create vital organ trauma... i.e. stopping power.
Today's 9mm's are a hell of a lot better than the 45's with the shorter barrels of off duty weapons. Hornady makes some of the best ammo out there. I carry Hornady TAP, critical defense, and critical duty in my weapons. I used to carry a 45 and I've changed over to all 9's. Once they changed the order on 9mm ammo it became good. 45 doesn't have "stopping power" that's a myth. It's not a magical unicorn bullet

Glock 45 or Springfield XD 45 for smaller hands. Glock 36 is a .45 and with the right holster would be a good concealed carry.
