- Protestors were blocking lanes of traffic on the Eisenhower Expressway near Kostner Avenue Saturday afternoon in the latest protest over recent grand jury decisions not to indict white police officers of unarmed black men in Missouri and New York.
All lanes reopened a short time after the protest started. A small group of protestors also blocked traffic on Lake Shore Drive in Hyde Park later on in the day.
- A 9-year-old boy was shot in the leg on the Near West Side late Saturday morning. He was an unintended victim the shooting, police said.
The boy was walking with his father around 11:35 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Adams when a gunman opened fire on a passing black four-door car, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.
The boy was struck "inadvertently" in the lower right leg, Sweeney said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital in good condition, according to police.

If they march and block traffic, and it is organized by the the good Rev's. and Father Phleger, and I am stuck in traffic and can not get to work on time and lose an hour of pay or get fired or something happens to a loved one because of a medical emergence and first responders cant get there in a reasonable fashion, can I file a civil law suit? Somewhat off topic. My 4 year old likes going for rides periodically on the redline. Yesterday afternoon we were heading north at about Loyola. The train is mostly white RPR types, save for 4 male blacks 17-18 y/o. The youths are shouting "shit, fuck, pussy , etc." Then, they're talking about shooting 44's and carrying a "strap". Everyone is ignoring this. It baffles me all of the white guilt out there. If 4 whites were talking about shooting people, someone might intervene. If this is our future, we're screwed.
This is all wrong. If the marchers get arrested they won't be able to become police officers and change the corrupt system.
I'm starting a new movement to raise awareness and save lives. It should go hand-in-hand with the "Hands up, don't shoot" movement. The catchphrase for this movement will be: "Cuffs out, don't resist". I truly believe it can save lives. I can see the tee-shirts in my mind already.

I remember a time, not too long ago, when we had Gang Crimes or TRU (or whatever the name of the month was) swoop in and hammer an area when a child, any child was shot. Maybe it's because it happens so often now.

Eric Garner died an hour after he resisted arrest of a heart attack, due to his being obese, with a previous heart condition, and the physical confrontation he caused with the responding officers. A simple 50 foot chase probably would have caused garner to have a heart attack.

I talked with lots of New York City Police NYPD and they said things were more "interesting" in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Why!? Why is it for some odd reason we find black on black violence acceptable, like it has been said countless of times here? Do your black friends think it's acceptable? No one wants to grow up in a "war zone", but no one is about to march and protest for every last GANGBANGER that decides to go out and get himself killed - those of which make up more than 80% of chicago murders. Leave that to their parents who should have raised them better. Hell, no one even protests when CPD has to shoot them.
And as a black person, I thought "black" was acceptable or "P.C.". Not sure why you feel it isn't. Most blacks now a days in my opinion don't really feel we are "Africans", just regular ol' Americans who are black (or brown or kind of tan, or what ever ones skin tone is) and African immigrants tend to try and seperate themselves from us anyway.

A Loyola student is murdered on the street during an armed robbery and the media makes no mention of the race of the offenders. Instead, they describe them as two male youths with hoods. The victim's friend was with him and cleary saw the offender, so they media can't claim not to have that information. They do not hesitate to publish the race of police officers but have long ago stopped publishing race information about offenders. Of course this is because the indisputable facts in Chicago and across every city in the United States are that African Americans are overwhelmingly responsible for violent crime. To state these statistics is to be labeled a racist. The real racists are those who are unwilling to confront uncomfortable facts and find real solutions.

I am a young aggressive officer who will make arrests for selling loose cigarettes, dopw, obstruction of traffic by non motorist, gambling, failure to disperse from a designated loitering area, weed, etc... First time blogger, but this had to be said. To the goof that thinks the Commander from 024 is going to be bounced because of a couple of shootings, what planet are you on? McCarthy has not demoted any exempt in his entire tenure, if you f-up, your given a better position. No fan whatsoever of J-Fed, but at least he got rid of some of these goofs! And theres still a lot left.

Its not so much the commander as it is the squad program. The car assigned to the loyola kid shot/killed was the furthest possible due to the squad program and manpower shortage due to "no assignment" mission team. Under the sqaud program, the furthest most cars are usually assigned a job, well off their beat and sector. End the squad program before more people get hurt.

Absolutely true. Every commander endures shootings, controversies and other crap. It's NEVER crime that gets a commander dumped. Never. And it's the comment also is correct stating that McCarthy has never dumped an exempt with one exception and that had nothing to do with police work. He believes strongly in attrition and that's exactly what's happening to the exempt ranks.
The Rev don't respect the law!
If you work in a district with these carpetbaggers write up all their customer illegally parked on Sundays.

The NYPD can expect to undergo the same kind of “de-biasing” training that Holder put departments in Seattle, New Orleans, St. Louis and several other cities through while investigating them for alleged civil rights violations.

The Justice Department’s unprecedented shift from prosecuting intentional discrimination to investigating unconscious or “implicit” bias began long before Ferguson, Mo. It’s part of a “racial justice” movement launched by the Obama administration to “reform” the criminal justice system.
In the past five years, Holder has more than doubled the number of police department probes compared with the previous five years, opening more than 20 investigations and pressuring 15 consent orders to stop “biased policing” and other alleged violations.
What’s striking about these federally mandated orders is the lack of evidence investigators found to show cops stopped and arrested black people simply because of bias. They assumed, but couldn’t prove, they targeted blacks due to an automatic and unfair association between them and crime and not because they actually committed crimes.....

I'm not a cop. I'll admit this. I don't have the fortitude to get up and do what you men and women do every day. I am a black man 28yo and I have always had the utmost respect for the CPD.
Most people venerate the troops for their service, I think we could be more grateful for those putting their lives on the line for an ungrateful and hostile populace.
That being said, I don't buy into the racebaiting and protests. Police aren't black, white, brown, yellow or red. You guys only come in blue and I'm glad we have you!
