Ceasefire Funding Ceases
- CeaseFire, the highly regarded but sometimes controversial anti-violence program featured in the documentary "The Interrupters," is losing state funding, the result of Gov. Bruce Rauner's executive order freezing spending.
The program was budgeted to receive $4.7 million from the state in fiscal 2015, which ends June 30, according to Rauner's proposed budget for fiscal 2016. The Rauner administration has proposed slashing CeaseFire's funding almost 60 percent, to $1.9 million, in fiscal 2016.
The freeze in funding is just one of many cuts under Rauner's order that are likely to anger supporters of popular state initiatives, even as it pleases advocates of his austerity measures. The state is facing a $1.6 billion budget shortfall for 2015 and a $6.2 billion gap for the following fiscal year.
Highly regarded by whom? It was a money maker for ex-cons and gang bangers looking to extend their reach into certain territories with little-to-zero provable impact on shootings, retaliations and on-going conflicts. No one on this Department with any intelligence held this in "high regard."
You know what stops shootings and retaliations? Cops arresting people and putting them in prison for a looooong fucking time. Like 25 to 50 years. They don't shoot anybody then and maybe...possibly...the youngsters see Mickey the Mope disappearing for two decades and thinks, "Maybe this shit ain't all it's cranked up to be." And they don't go shoot someone instead of seeing shooter after shooter after shooter getting out inside of 18 months for ventilating two and three people at a time.

Yep, the "interrupters" who are still current gang members and who get paid by ceasefire tell the fellas to step it up and go to war. The money from the state needs to come back in. Lets not forget that state money from ceasefire 4 years ago was found to have been used to purchase 4 kilos of heroin by the gangster disciples. It was a chicago ceasefire office and chicago "employee" who was caught by a state police narcotics task force working an unrelated narcotics investigation in east st louis that led to the arrest of these guys buying the kilos from GDs in east st louis and bringing it back up to chicago. So, bring back shootings and homicides to put pressure on the politicians and get the money back coming in. To the outside media and non police you didnt know any of this??? You really thought ceasefire was legit with good hearted ex cons who finally got life together. Yeah, ok. You have to do court ordered community service or a condition of parole? Yep, go to ceasefire. Nobody will look to deep into it and you can continue to be a criminal while protected by the very state who ordered you to be a good person on parole. Wake up people.

They should slash it from $4.7mil to $0.0.
Direct those funds to stay the taxes & promote private business. Figure how to bring them back, help them stay, entice newcomers.
Create jobs & perhaps otherwise idle people (& folk :-) have opportunities for purposeful lives.
This is a step in the right direction, now let's stop paying father's in the ghetto for watching their own children while mom goes to school.

Don't worry, he cut funding to the cops taking guys off the street too. The South uburban Major Crimes Task Force have their funding cut also. So on one of these lovely folks (or people) get killed in the suburbs there will be less guys to investigate it.

A good start....How about defunding the useless clean air testing. When was the last time you saw or heard about someone failing this waste of time and money. Cars just run cleaner on their own now. And besides they dont even test out in the collar counties of Illinois. A smoking taipipe puts a car out of comission with all the sensors now installed. It is a self policing system, and it needs to go.

O.T I keep hearing from a few coppers about Rauner gonna take away our pensions, get yer facts straight, pre-election he stated that police and fire pensions would not be touched, it is inevitable that the state pension fund will need a major reformation years of greed and misconduct will take years to fix and will not be without some pain for some along the way, any changes though would have to start with new hires and allow them to decide if a job in the public sector is the career they want.
As it goes for fair share (my experience comes from working with the teamsters in county jail ), again another item i don't believe is fair, if someone does not want to be part of the bargaining unit, then feel free to go it alone and bargain your own contract, however when the directors son with one year on the job is getting twice the salary that you were able to get , then don't complain about not being in the union . I myself will stick with a bargaining unit regardless.
Ceasefire should get no funding from any government entity. Ever. Zero Zilch. Nada. No Mas.

Ceasfire is nothing but a scam that reeks of total b.s. The head of that circus, Ameena Matthews, is nothing but a street thug who now walks around wrapped up in window treatments disguised as a reformed muslim. She is a self admitted gang enforcer who is probably responsible for countless murders, whether it be direct or indirect. Matthews and her other gang banging ilk receive public tax revenue in the form of grant money to basically go and tell their fellow gang bangers to play nice with each other over the illegal drug trade. They have a non-cooperative policy with law enforcement, meaning "no snitchin'". They have no allegiance to the community or police, only to themselves. They do not provide information or assistance in prosecuting offenders who have participated or conspired in murder, felony narcotics, or any violent gang-related activity. The governor should have cut their budget to ZERO- that's exactly what they are worth.

The cease fire scum are all hooked up with state senator Patricia van pelt, jason Ervin and ghe rest of the con artists on the west and south side. It's time for these parasites to be done for once and for all.
People can change. How do you feel about support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and other addiction services? The answer isn't locking people up- because it only displaces the issue and doesn't solve anything. This isn't cave man times and putting someone behind bars doesn't stop someone from communicating with the outside world. You want to lock everyone up? Then you pay for it from your personal pocket because guess what? Putting people in jail/prison costs money and if you think the answer is locking everyone away, YOU PAY THE BILL! Crime goes up/ taxes go up. So fix it before its everyones bill.
