Shut Up Kirk

  • Republican U.S. Senator Mark Kirk has given his tacit endorsement of Mayor Rahm Emanuel for re-election, reports WBBM [...].

He refused to call it an endorsement, but Senator Mark Kirk made clear he feels Chicago would risk dire financial straits like Detroit has seen if Mayor Emanuel is not re-elected.

“I think the people running against Rahm don’t have the gravitas with the bond market,” Kirk said. “I would worry about the value of a Chicago debt if Rahm was not re-elected.”
Hey Kirk? Rahm majored in Dance. At Sarah Lawrence. He doesn't have any "gravitas" with the bond market any more than we do. He doesn't have an MBA or banking experience aside from the spots that Clinton and Rauner handed to him. And he couldn't even win an election against 4 nobodies - at least two of which were Machine plants to split the vote.

Relax, scc. An Emanuel endorsement from Kirk means lots more votes for Garcia.

Kirk will hurt Rahm more than help him.

I was alerted to this by an officer who wanted me to share what I know. I'm in the financial services biz and know some of the individuals involved and I know for a fact that the people at the rating agencies can't stand Emanuel. Especially the females. They have gone out of their way to be dismissive of him in person because they know he has to kiss their asses. It's like the math nerds getting revenge on the playground bully.

Do they want Chuy to win? Not necessarily, but I think they believe if he did he might take advice from experts, something Emanuel is loathe to do since he always has to be the smartest person in the room.

I wonder if RINO Kirk used that excuse when Daley was running and putting Chicago deeper in debt with every election win?

What really happened is this:

Oh really, stroke boy? I distinctly recall those very same institutions lowering Chicago's bond rating several times during Rahm's four years in office. Those are not the actions of someone who likes what Rahm is doing.

If this really is just about how the 1%ers want to change the public policy that governments should pay it's bills (yes, my pension is a bill owed by the people of Chicago), then just say so. Why be coy?

We know you'd rather spend Chicago's money by funneling it to the 1%ers than by paying the bill owed to the people who keep it together. And you'd rather buy something new and shiny than keep up to date with maintenance.

A few years ago there was a meeting of citizens and politicos at the Boathouse on North Ave Beach. I'm pretty sure it was during the IL Govenors race. The one before last.

Kirk was there and I met him. I knew right then when I told him, "If Obamacare is good enough for us citizens, it's good enough for congress.", by his response, he was full of shit and evidently a graduate of the Lindsey Graham School of Talking Out of Both Sides of Your Mouth.

He wasn't in congress yet at that time I don't think. I wish the guy well healthwise, but he's a snake.

This scumbag conveniently leaves out the fact that EMANUEL HAS ALREADY BEEN TALKING TO DETROIT BANKRUPTCY ATTORNEYS!!!

Yeah.... a scumbag politician using the excuse we'll go into bankruptcy if we don't elect mayor 1% to save us, yet that's exactly what Emanuel intends to do if he gets elected.

He has his staff confer with Detroit attorneys to find out how they can best protect their friends while at the same time attempt to expose only the pension to destruction.

Then he has his buddy downstate put in the paperwork to LET chicago go bankrupt.

Yeah... this loser Kirk is playing the lie all the way to the end ain't he?

You elect Emanuel, you WILL get a bankruptcy.

You elect Chuy, he MAY destroy the illegal siphoning of taxpayer slush money known as TIF for good, thereby putting taxpayer money where the law first demanded it, on taxpayer services rather than lining the pockets of the rich.

Speaking of Emanuel's financial skills:

Emanuel was named to the Board of Directors of Freddie Mac by President Clinton in 2000. He earned at least $320,000 during his time there, including later stock sales.[43][44] During Emanuel's time on the board, Freddie Mac was plagued with scandals involving campaign contributions and accounting irregularities.[44][45] The Obama Administration rejected a request under the Freedom of Information Act to review Freddie Mac board minutes and correspondence during Emanuel's time as a director.[44] The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight later accused the board of having "failed in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention." Emanuel resigned from the board in 2001 before his first bid for Congress.[46]

Where are Kirk or Durbin's names on this?
They really look out for us by telling us who to vote for!

Washington, Feb 13
U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) today introduced the Social Security Fairness Act, which eliminates the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), two titles of the Social Security Act that unfairly reduce or eliminate Social Security benefits for millions of Americans who have devoted much of their careers to public service.

“This bill ensures that a teacher who spends his or her summers working a second job or a police officer who changes careers after years of service will not face a possible 40 percent reduction in their Social Security benefits,” said Davis.“By repealing these outdated provisions that unfairly penalize public servants in Illinois, we can provide some certainty to retirees while helping to recruit future teachers, firefighters, and police officers.”

“We must work to ensure that public employees, just like retirees who have private pensions, receive the full Social Security benefits to which they are entitled,” said Schiff. “We have a responsibility to our educators, police officers, and fire fighters to act now to repeal these inequitable provisions, and ensure that hard work for the public good is justly compensated, even in retirement.”

"These outdated provisions deprive educators and other public employees of the benefits they have earned and the secure retirement they deserve," said Illinois Education Association President Cinda Klickna. "I thank Representatives Davis and Schiff for their leadership on this issue and for their support of educators throughout Illinois and across the nation."

The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) reduces the earned Social Security benefits of an individual who also receives a public pension from a job not covered by Social Security. For example, educators who do not earn Social Security in the public schools but who work part-time or during the summer in jobs covered by Social Security have reduced benefits even though they pay into the system just like others. The WEP also affects people who move from a job in which they earn Social Security to a job, such as teaching, in which they do not.

The Government Pension Offset (GPO) affects the spousal benefits of people who work as federal, state, or local government employees—including educators, police officers, and firefighters—if the job is not covered by Social Security. GPO reduces by two-thirds the benefit received by surviving spouses who also collect a government pension. Nine out of 10 public employees affected by the GPO lose their entire spousal benefit, even though their spouse paid Social Security taxes for many years.

The WEP substantially reduces benefits workers included and counted on when planning their retirement and it substantially penalizes lower paid public employees. These provisions also discourage qualified, talented individuals from entering into public service professions, hindering efforts to attract new math and science teachers from the private sector unwilling to sacrifice earned Social Security from prior careers. The WEP and GPO provisions do not eliminate a windfall for workers, they penalize public service employees by taking away benefits they earned throughout their careers.

Davis and Schiff were the lead sponsors of the Social Security Fairness Act of 2013 in the 113th Congress. Repeal of the WEP and GPO should be a part of the discussion as Congress grapples with our current fiscal issues and reforming of the federal tax code.

Just yesterday we warned that, among the 'solutions' the Greek government was exploring in its scramble for cash to pay back The IMF loan, was 'borrowing' from the nation's pension funds. Today we get the sad confirmation that indeed Greece will raid cash reserves in pension funds and other public sector entities to cover its funding needs. As Reuters reports, Greece will use short-term repo transactions to transfer the cash, but one government official said they could not be used to repay the IMF. As the radical left-wing government takes from the implictly wealthier Greeks (pension funders), it is giving free electricity, a rent allowance, and food stamps to the poor.

Why do patrol officers in districts that are run by deputy chiefs receive same pay as other officers. They should receive D2 pay for being assigned to high crime districts.

Guess what? This city is facing a Detroit-style financial meltdown no matter who gets elected, and neither of the two useless candidates have anything to offer in the way of solutions.

It just might be, as columnist Byrne suggests and Mish Shedlock seconds, that our only recourse is a municipal bankruptcy.

Thank you Mayor Daley. Thank You, Ald.Ed Burke of the finance committee. Thank you Rahm. Thank You all you rubberstamp aldercreatures who never asked how we were going to pay the mounting debts. Thank you, municipal employees, who demanded unending raises and retirement at age 50 no matter that the private sector worker bees who underwrite your paychecks have been sinking into unemployment and poverty, with stagnant or dropping incomes, failing businesses, and ongoing layoffs.

And thank all you denizens of Chicago- I can't call you citizens- who thought only of what you "want" at your fellow taxpayers' expense- evermore welfare programs, evermore "economic development" that is nothing but multimillion dollar gimmes for crony businesses large and small, for evermore programs for people who will not starve without them, for trophy parks and public spectacles.

The bill for all of the above is due, and we can't pay it.

What is our choice? We know what Rham is about, he always told us he would fuck us and did. Chuy has come out and said he would protect the pensions ( probably with tif funds ), hire 1000 coppers. That's all I need to know fuck Rahm. By the way, he surrounds himself with smart people, David Orr and Clem Ballanoff. Guys who know how to work across the aisle. It s sup rising how many Republicans that are with them.

WOW! I have to hand it to you. I could not have said it better myself. You won't realize how much this job has hurt your mental and physical health until you are in your early 50's and thinking about retirement. Not to mention the PTSD that will follow you until the end of your days. But, the public does not care because they do not have apension no one should. Rauner said he would not mess with pensions of police and fire. I take him at his word.
