From the Files of "Duh...."
- For Illinois residents, there’s isn’t much good financial news.
In fact, it’s so bad, even Abraham Lincoln is feeling the effects of it, 150 years after his assassination.
And now, a new report from Wallet Hub rubs salt in your Tax Day wounds. The report shows Illinois residents have the highest state and local tax obligations, paying more than 2.5 times more than the cheapest states.
This comes on the heels of a report showing Illinois has the second-highest real estate taxes in the nation. The state also has one of the most unfair tax systems.
And like an abused spouse, Illinois voters keep coming back for more.

I escaped a year ago to Texas. What a difference, and state/local government is mostly honest.
HEY...someone has to pay for all the padded contracts and corruption costs.
And what does illinois/chicago have to show for this unfair tax system? Only a small group of the many corrupt politicians went to prison. And a state and its largest city on the verge of going bankrupt. Some of the dumbest voters around
As long as they don't start taxing our pensions.
I stopped buying from Amazon.com when they were dumb enough to open a local store and start charging Illinois sales tax.
It's funny how they wonder why Illinois is bleeding tax paying residents.
This is why everyone has been moving. Only fools retire here!!
PROGRESSIVE. Thanks to geniuses like Quinn and Durbin. And all those great state reps you elected and gave pensions to.
As a Chicago Police Officer/resident of Chicago living south I encourage all of you to do as my family has done, We are 15-30 minutes away from Indiana depending how far you go into it Hammond/ Dyer and others and we do all our shopping there twice a month. The savings on groceries and other consumer goods is well worth it. In fact living next door to Oak Lawn we get our gas there 20-25 cents gallon cheaper. Tinley Park, Orland Park and Oak Brook just all a mere 30-40 drive same as driving down town are filled with awesome restaurants and shopping and here's a bonus going out there... no charge for parking and plenty of it and you won't get robbed by former Cabrini Green residents like downtown. Food for thought.
Perhaps its time to adjust the freeloader welfare system like Wisconsin did. Just drive through the south or west sides of Chicago and see how the non-workers enjoy themselves. Liquor, smokes and scratchems....
hey, the outfit and their clouted puppets need your money. Whatcha gonna do?
Illinois is the Master of the Political handout aka Fraud.
Things like Ceasfire and Victim Impact Fund are just free money to certain have not groups that bring nothing to the table.
Can we get money from the state and city for our abuse???

They didn't 'open a local store'. Lisa Madigan fought long and hard to force them to collect sales tax and now we have a law that says they (and some other internet companies) have to collect tax on each sale. Supposedly, it was to 'level the playing field' for local companies, but we all know it was just a cash grab.
Yeah, but Illinois is nicer to gay people than Indiana and other low-tax states like Texas (sarc :)
There is a flip side. Research how much money Illinois sends to Washington and how much Illinois gets back in return. You will be surprised.
Go to Wisconsin and pay 5% tax on your retirement or Indiana and pay 3.4% on your retirement with no senior citizen tax break unless your income is under $25k and try buying a new car in Indiana after paying the 7% sales tax you pay an excise tax on your car amounting to roughly $400 for your license plates (declines yearly for 10 years). Oh and don't forget Indiana counties can tax your income too. Iowa no bargain either. Read the state tax codes no some ass hat with an agenda.
Retiring in August any recommended states/cities tired of living on the titanic!
Welcome to Chicago.
Where Divide & Share is more than just a bike program.
Call the next case. Not a cop.
left for Indiana awhile ago....not bad here, with a cap on property taxes, low gas prices, etc....now, may move on to either Arizona or Florida in the future
It's only higher because it's SO WORTH IT to live in Ill-Annoy!
Best politicians, best job outlook, best sales tax, best gas tax, best weather!
Need I go on?
rb
It's soooo unfair big reasons:
Extremely politically corrupt
Free everything to illegals and link card holders
Subpar schools
Tax blue collar to death
Just ordered from amazon they are now charging illinois state sales tax wonder if they will use the millions to prop up police pension funds?
Just saw a report that O'Dumbo is very likely going to make a push for reparations right before he leaves office. Billions to the oppressed. I'm sure the White House will be stripped to bare bones and there will be endless vacations next year for the O'Dumbo sprogs before he leaves office.

Do you think money 'from Washington' is pulled from thin air? Money from Washington comes from people who pay taxes.
Whether it's an Illinois taxpayer or a Utah taxpayer, the money still comes from us, so it isn't some kind of 'gift'.
How was the play? Did I miss anything Abe?

So you have no problem sending your tax dollars to West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico etc. ?
If so then that is very nice of you. I personally don't like not getting enough of my tax dollars returned from the federal government and I have to pay extra state and local taxes to make up the difference....
