This does not smell like a confident campaign. This flyer arrived in the mail today:
Chicago hasn't laid off an officer in at least two decades, probably nearing three when Harold held a class hostage during the Council Wars, and that was resolved fairly quickly. Daley never laid off a single officer - though he failed to hire any meaningful numbers for nearly five years. Rahm didn't have to lay anyone off - he just ran with Daley's anemic numbers and then cut 1,200 spots from the budget, and he'll do it again with two watches.
We can't even remember a threatened firefighter lay off...and we're old.
But combine this with the staged Phil Ponce attack on Chuy's son during the debate and this low-information mailing, and you have a guy who isn't at all confident about his chances.

Probationary Officers turned in their I.D.s and stars in the morning, but went to work on the 3rd & 1st Watch that same day, nobody lost anything, and that class was the class with Ralph Price in it; did it hurt his career? The PPO"s would of been the first to be laid off but it never happened. That's the only time I can recall any talk of a layoff.

Feb 2016. City declares a financial emergency and thus an immediate need to readjust expectations as 3 city bonds will be lowered to junk (it's practically there now). A strategic default WILL occur (AKA bankruptcy). 3000 officers, 1500 firefighters, and 3000 misc. city employees will be terminated. It's already baked into the cake.

The choice is clear. You vote for the one who has not promised to take your pension away. You vote for anyone but the one in office so he doesn't get to finish the job against you and what you have worked for. You vote for the one who hasn't cut police positions.
Vote for Garcia not because he's a good candidate, but because he's not the one in office now who promises to take your pension from you and lower the numbers on the department to ensure the pension goes bankrupt.
In for Chuey. Emmanuel has not done a single thing for middle class working people other than squander our tax dollars and threaten to cut City Pensions, but never Welfare.

The voter took an absentee and voted for Fioretti in February and is undecided about next Tuesday.

In a time long, long ago you would have almost every beat car manned with 2 officers. There were 3 wagons, all manned. There were 3-5 rapid cars, called STRAC cars back then, all manned. There were 3 sergeants and usually a LT on the street. And there was most likely a traffic car and a couple of foot beats if they applied. And we still had 25 Districts. Where oh where did all the police go? Laid off or cut from the budget is the same thing to me. So Rahm is full of shit with his flyers and his ideas. I want someone new and I'll support Chuy and vote for him. He doesn't do the job and I'll vote against him next time. It will be easily getting a newbie mayor out than getting Rahm out if he secures a second term.

The cash-strapped city of Harvey has been dealt another financial blow after a Cook County judge found the suburb owes more than $7.3 million to its police pension fund after neglecting to make payments for nearly a decade.
In an order filed Friday, Circuit Judge Kathleen Pantle wrote that the city owes payments to the fund for the 2007- 2014 fiscal years, despite a settlement agreement Harvey entered in 2008 after the pension board sued over unpaid funds.
Pantle noted that while the city does not dispute the current owed amount, it believes state law gives the suburb until 2040 to pay the arrearage. But the judge said the city is obligated to make the payments under terms of the 2008 settlement, which she said was specifically designed to address the suburb's failure to fund the pension board.

No amount of "known gang members" could ever do as much harm to society as any entrenched Chicago politicians or their clout buddies have in the past 50 years.
