Why would you make 24 LT's if you are planning to go 10hr days in all the districts, and want cut man power. I don't know, but I think this 10hr days stuff is all bullshit and will not happen. I've been wrong many times before and know the brains in the ivory tower are a group of fuck-ups who can't find their own ass with both hands....But this don't make sense.

Heard a lazy do nothing at work talking about how he's done and out if we get the 10 hr days. This guy has less than 10 years on and when asked what he was going to do he replied I'll find something to do. Let's face it people if the city says 10 hr days then we're doing 10 hr days so stop bitching like a bunch of cry babies, make it work for you and enjoy the extra days off during a time when you can't get a day off.
Congrats to Patricia OC. Patricia and I have known each other since grammar school. She was easily the smartest in the class even back then. Her management skills, professionalism, and acumen show me that there truly is justice in this world.

How is it that the Superintendent merit promotes Sgt. E McK to Lieutenant when she is to retire in 1 and 1/2 years, and she is facing 20 day suspension for losing 2 guns, 2 police radios, a department laptop with direct access to Clear, a police department I-Pad for direct viewing of Pod cameras and the complete written operations plan for a secret police operation???? Her explanation was at best ridiculous and certainly a rule 14 violation. Talk to anyone in 189, she is the most incompetent sergeant there? McCarthy, what are you thinking? Don't you vet these people?
The other day I was denied time because we were short officers and two of our Sergeants were detailed out of the district because they are short Sergeants. Walk into the station and the Desk Sergeant is busy handling arrests and inventories. Walk past the Watch Commanders office and the Captain and two Lieutenants are having a good old time watching the basketball games. Rahm made it this way. Before he became mayor the captains and lieutenants served a purpose now they are just political spots to pay back his friends with bigger pensions. What a joke!
Mister I'm not terminating this pursuit finally got his meritorious bars.

Narcotics sergeant RR to lieutenant? He was dumped from a DEA Task Force when he was caught on tape trashing the supt and the department .The tapes were surveillance tapes made in a federal investigation. the tapes and investigation were deep-sixed, lest the defense played them at trial and embarrassed the AUSA and the DEA.
Recently he is rated the lowest producing Sergeant in narcotics and is dumped by the deputy chief carter to a night time buy bust team.
Thank god McCarthy only promotes the best and brightest.

That list is longer than the list of new recruits we just got out of the academy. Anybody know exactly what we need them for? The two lieutenants assigned to our watch have been gone for the past several weeks and operations are completely unaffected. The DSS does everything. Even when they are here, if any semi-crucial decision has to be made they always refer to the XO anyway so what's the point?

I never comment, but I am concerned for a dog I saw in a canine unit stationed at the RedLine Lake stop at about 4-4:30pm yesterday (3-31-15). The dog seemed ill suited to police work. He/she appeared very nervous/distressed (panting, huddled under/around its handler). The handler spent most of the time trying comfort the dog by petting it, which did not seem to be working. When an incoming southbound train approached the dog become very agitated at disembarking passengers and started barking and pulling at the lead. The handler took a couple attempts to get the dog to quiet/calm down. When the north bound train approached the handler moved to the other side of the platform so as to not be near people. I am not familiar with k-9 training, but this dog seemed stressed and not ready for this type of on site training (if they are suited for police work at all). I do not know if/where I should report this and would hate to be the subject of retaliation if I did so. I am not judging the police involved, and perhaps this is totally appropriate behavior and training, I am just concerned for the k-9.

Actually they were 53 down + the new 24 =77 down from budgeted strength. Now if that means a new class of sergeants only time will tell.

Was this a police canine unit dog? The only way you would know it's a police dog is if the person handling the dog was in full police uniform. On the CTA they have a security company with canine dogs as security. Thank you for your concern.

City won't consider it until they are at least 150 short. Always always always has been that way. Don't forget they haven't even asked for merit applications yet. Usually it takes 3-4 months after the merit deadline which usually lasts a month so if they were to put out the notice today it would still be 4-5 months before you even see a class. Last I checked no notice. Sill need 70-80 less sgts for the ball to get rolling.

I was lucky enough to make Lt in ought six, got sent to 005 midnights somebody in the academy told me you might have gotten the worst Lt job in the city! Guess what there are no bad Lt. jobs and the people in 005 were GREAT, took care of each other and me. Good luck to all and remember keep an open mind about people till you know them

This being said "Merit" runs homan all the way around.
Police Officers are very expensive. if they dont promote captains, they dont promote lts. If they dont promote lts they dont promote sgts. If they dont promote sgts the PO rank stagnates. stagnation equals dead end job.

How is it that the Superintendent merit promotes Sgt. E McK to Lieutenant when she is to retire in 1 and 1/2 years, and she is facing 20 day suspension for losing 2 guns, 2 police radios, a department laptop with direct access to Clear, a police department I-Pad for direct viewing of Pod cameras and the complete written operations plan for a secret police operation???? Her explanation was at best ridiculous and certainly a rule 14 violation. Talk to anyone in 189, she is the most incompetent sergeant there? McCarthy, what are you thinking? Don't you vet these people?

It means 150 hours of overtime in a period jackass. That's what spinning the clock means. I said detectives are AVERAGING 50 hours a period. That means legit overtime. And you don't go to court if you don't have cases. Here, I'll just make you happy by saying detectives don't do anything and we don't need them at all. Happy now jealous stroke?
