Cheaters?

Word in the comment sections is a number of sergeants were removed, physically, from the testing this past weekend. CR's were obtained and their careers are now in jeopardy.

If you didn't make the effort, you get what you put into it.

If you didn't make the secret study groups, well, that sucks, as it's just another form of cheating.

But hiding cell phones and crib sheets?

Why would anyone cheat to get promoted?

Oh yeah, they don't have the juice of a phone call, a relative, alderman, outfit connection, pastor pfleger, rabbi, or the big fat envelope.

Silly me.

I assume the cell phone restriction circumvents looking up answers during a bathroom break....can not imagine what would be so important as to need a crib sheet--it was multiple choice- MAKE A DECISION---its what they pay us to do, either you know the answer or you pick the one you think might be right

I am going to guess that there were a greater number of merit sergeants cheating than sergeants that were promoted legit.

O.T There is a rumor that the commander from 012th District picked his Meritorious Sgt already J.C from the burglary/mission team. Why would he waste the other applicants time? Mission teams come in with their usual arrest maybe a contact card here and there and leave at least 2-3 hours early. Is this what he based his decision on? He only has 12 years on the job and most of that was not working a beat car.

In keeping with the long tradition of this city and department, the cheating sergeants will bypass lieutenant and become commanders through the merit process.

Funny... It would have been smarter to give an exempt 20k for a merit spot!

Yep that is the going price. I know you believe a resume that you were a tact SGT will get you promoted but in truth it is all irrelevant.

You thought those promotion party's were about a party? Look who put them together then watch who is promoted a few years later.

one had a cell phone

other two were 'talking'

the word 'cheating' was never used as they were being remioved from the test session

This type of officer would never make it as a criminal because they get caught doing anything wrong. I guess there are ways to cheat, but this is done by people who know how to evade being discovered. If you were one of the kids in the neighborhood who was caught every time you fucked up, you should avoid the cheating game.

How about the superintendent's former driver that "cheated" and didnt even take the sgt's test was promoted, then demoted, then landed in corp.counsel and to top it off is now suing the city for wrongful demotion..Talk about "cheaters" the corp counsel must be the new "dumping" grounds for connected,cheaters.....

All 3 were told to leave for other reasons, not exaclty cheating.
Not too sure what the dept will do to them. Can a civilian 'shithead' proctor
make that accusation anyway???? My section's 'proctor' was un-shaven and had body odor. CPS Consulting is a female black owned company that got the contract for those 2 very reasons. And that she hires minorities to work the exam sites.

I hope all 3 test takers are OK in the end.

Linda Flores (NOW Commander)

LT. Patty Casey

ALL were from 017 . . . . there are a few others.

One of them was recovering from surgery AT HOME and was given the answers!!

The lawyer working for the sergeant's union was given a circuit court judge's position for settling the lawsuit from this exam !!

Now some idiots are the subject of a CR for just having a cellphone??

Not necessarily cheaters. They just had their cell phones on them during the test. Which is a no no. They repeated many many times that u cannot have your cell phone in the test room. But, sometimes more important things are going on in your life and you need to be close to a phone. I.e. Wife expecting, family member dying. Something's are worth getting thrown out of a test for.

There were people who actually brought their cell phones into the testing room and the proctors had to hold them during the test! This after the notice to report specifically stated any electronic devices were forbidden, so yes of course I believe people were caught cheating. SAD and a joke that the passing score on the most recent Sgt. exam was 52%. I wonder how CALEA certification considers 52% as a measure of competency when CALEA requires a 70% passing score for their certification. So how does a promotional exam have less stringent standards than a national accreditation?

They announced the cell phone thing at least 6 times. It was written on the exam entrance form, told numerous times before entering the exam hall and numerous times in the test hall before the exam began. They warned if you got caught with a cell phone you would be escorted out, immediate fail, etc. anyone who didn't comply is a complete idiot.

The "Captain Dillon study group" was a blatant violation of the privacy agreement she signed when she helped write the exam.

However this time around the department is keeping the exempts and others who helped design this test a SECRET .. the city KNOWS the real cheating taking place that they are basically giving the green light to.

This time the word is even MORE sergeants were privy to "special study groups">

The fact these sergeants were taken out of the test was a pure bullshit smoke and mirror show to make people this thing is legit.

IT will go as one of the most corrupted exams once everything is leaked out.

You forgot old Jan (and I do mean old) was a subject matter expert who had the answers. I heard her telling another Sgt. how one of "students" cried and cried because she f'ed up the question on the oral answer about protesters at the church, even though old Jan told her it was going to be on the test (oops!, I guess you slipped up there Jan!). Good thing they re-tested everyone on the oral otherwise this nitwit may not have made Lt. I called the IG and it went, surprise!, nowhere!

Yup, its all legit.

Doesnt matter at the moment because the Sgt class of 2013 is filing a lawsuit because they were deprived the chance to sit for the Lt Exam. They reached their two years in grade but were still denied. The city moved back the test date several months from February to June, which means they should have moved the enrollment date back from October to February also. They have a good case, should be interesting.

I remember taking a two day promotional exam in the 90's at the apparel center at Merchandise Mart. We had individual spots with cardboard to keep people from looking at the other person's desk. Saturday the desk next to me was empty. Sunday someone is there. I said why bother you weren't here Saturday for the first part. He said 'yes I was'. I just minded my one business after that.

No idiot, they are not worthy to be lieutenants. But according to the rules they are entitled to sit the exam and then wait until they have enough time in grade to receive the promotion.

In your school of thought those without the college degree shouldn't be able to take it either. But if those shy of a degree get a good score they will have the incentive and enough time to complete the degree by the time their number comes up.

If they were only patrolmen two years ago why are you worried about them doing better than you.

If you believe all of these cheating rumors then you are making yourself miserable for nothing. No need to cheat when they can make anyone they want a merit promote. If there is any cheating then it is the command personnel who had a part in making up subject matter who pass these things on, but there knowledge is limited. If you study hard and work at it, it really is possible to get promoted, at least to lieutenant. Everyone who has rank did not cheat. The only people who really believe that are those who don't put in any effort and wonder why the world is against them. But, I can say one thing, after a lifetime on this department: Better men then me have never been promoted. They did try, but did not make it. It is no shame not to make rank and I would never look down on anyone who was not promoted.
