Police Shooting

  • A Chicago police officer shot a man early Saturday while responding to a call of men with guns in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side.

Several Area Central Gun Team units responded to a call of men with guns about 12:10 a.m. in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

When officers arrived, four people were standing on a northern corner of 71st and Merrill, said Chicago police Deputy Chief Berscott Ruiz.

A 23-year-old man, one of the four people, took off running east but then came back after he saw an officer approaching from that direction.

One of the officers saw that the man had a gun and told him to drop it.

"The individual then turned, raised the gun toward the officer and the officer fired his weapon multiple times," Ruiz said as he stood at the edge of the scene of the shooting early Saturday.
Evidently, Ruiz has replaced the Orange One at shooting scenes.

The neighborhood is outraged of course...but not at the folks (or people) running around with guns:
  • "Police shot one of our kids," a woman said. "This s--- is crazy."

Kesha Williams, 32, said she saw the shooting out the window of her apartment in a building at the intersection, across from the payday loan store.

She said she didn't understand why the police officer had to shoot the 23-year-old man.
Um, that's because she isn't a lawyer...or an officer...or a student of the law....or literate we imagine. But the media gives her a platform all the same to spout her ignorance from the rooftops.
  • "They didn't say 'freeze' or nothing," Williams said, upset over what she saw. "The boy didn't even know which way to go."

Williams said the man who was shot was known in the neighborhood as "Nunu."

"This is a boy that everybody knows. He is respectful," said Williams, who has been living in South Shore for about two years. "He had his faults just like everybody else. He was trying to get his life on track."
Of course he was...altar boy, boy scout, model citizen...and aspiring rap artist no doubt.

Well done Officers.

Ok lady....He was so "respectful" that he had an illegal gun, ran when police arrived, then pointed his illegal gun at the police when he was confronted. Thanks for checking in with your illogical comments. You have now proven why you will never be anything more than a moron. Go pick up your LINK card and welfare check.

Ruh roh! The sleuths at the Sun-Times figured out who the man posing as the hunted in the Finnigan/McDermott huntin' trophy photo was when IAD couldn't? It appears that several other parties who were involved with the shenanigans of that evening will soon be feeling the heat from GMAC and his crew as he continues to throw all of his underlings under the bus in a fruitless attempt to save his own hide! Beware if you or anyone else that you know were even remotely involved! You better be a part of the royal circle of thee clouted if you are, or else! http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/7/71/701975/hunting-photo-report-cpd-couldnt-find

"He was trying to get his life on track." You just KNOW the reporter wasn't going to file this story until they got that quote from someone. It's part of the formula, it's in the script. Journalism is an easy line of work these days.

It seems so unfair when they are cut down in the midst of getting their life together. It's the influence of the evil gun.

"He had his faults just like everybody else. He was trying to get his life on track." Turning his life around seems to be a very dangerous way to live?

Oh yeah, another one 'trying to get his life on track' and shot down in his prime...

Whatever.

Cops don't have to say "Freeze" or "stop" or any of that crap if they feel they're in imminent danger. Good shootin...

This jagoff just trying to get his life back on track brought all this on himself by running off from the cops, running with a gun, and raising it toward a cop... Bang! Bang! Buh bye...

And therein is the problem SCC. Until the black community stops depicting those that are destroying their very own community as little angels trying to turn their lives around until they were gunned down by the Police or as being respectful although with faults everyone else has, NOTHING will change. Until they admit (and it doesn't have to be to the rest of us it can even be simply just to themselves) that the biggest threat to a young black person is another is NOT a Police Officer but is instead another young black person, NOTHING will change. Until they admit that the people that are destroying THEIR communities are coming from within,NOTHING will change. Until they start HELPING the Police instead of HINDERING them in cases like this,NOTHING will change. Until THEY start recognizing what the problem is, NOTHING will change. Until THEY look in the mirror as ask themselves "why", NOTHING will change.

I expect,as usual, that nothing will change.

How many of these men with gun calls are bogus? Some "Anonymous" caller just doesn't like some guys standing around or hanging out so they make bogus calls. If its a serious crime, then no "anonymous" calls should be allowed. The court system is a little funny about anonymous calls involving weapons.

It seems the pattern is constantly renewed. The person shot by police, or by others in the community for that matter, always has a silly nick name which makes the person sound like a clown and is always trying to get their lives back on track or turned around or whatever. Pretty funny, actually, if it was not so pathetic.

Well too bad for nunu, the end result says it all.

The pandered to community does not, and for the most part, can not, live by societal norms.
For a group that espouses respect, they respect little themselves.
It is a lost cause. It will not change in our lifetime or our kids lifetimes.

"They didn't say freeze, or nothing" --- correct, Ms. Williams, because this isn't television and those are real guns with real bullets.

The public is so indoctrinated by television, they don't grasp the idea that the guy laying there in the street with the blood pouring out of him is NOT getting a role in another show next week, nor is he getting another 'free life' in the video game.

WE know a loaded gun means 'game over', so we act accordingly.

The media apparently doesn't realize (or care) that they lose all credibility when they allow these ignorant mutts to spew their nonsense about how the offender was "a good boy" or some other shit about how he was trying to get his life together. Enough with the getting your life together bullshit. He was a thug, and this is what happens to thugs when you point guns at the police.

Used to be such a nice shopping and commercial area -- so many pleasant memories from when I was a kid. Big outing to go down there -- got a Popsicle out of it, and maybe a 79-cent model airplane kit. "Neeyow! Neeyow!" as it strafed my enemies. Fun before you even got it out of the box.

Safe as could be to walk around. Just plain, quiet Normal going on everywhere. Ordinary working people.

Not anymore.

The police are responsible, of course. Fire them all!

Here's the problem, it's normal to have your faults of gang banging and carrying guns when we the people only reward you for it. We need to make these people work for their check, until then nothing will ever change.

Not true. Pat Camden still is the spokesperson for interviews. And the other guy takes care of getting positive articles in the local publications. Pats pay package was just restructured that's all. Just trying to cut expenses. Or so I was told by Mike Garza.
