- Chicago police issued a warning of robberies where people are being knocked or punched to the ground in the city's South Loop.
One of the robberies happened across from Grant Park near the Columbia College campus along one of Chicago's best-known boulevards.
Nicole Pernic moved to the South Loop, in part, for its safety. She is among many concerned about a recent rash of violent robberies and other crimes she's heard about citywide.
"They've stolen their wallets, their phones, their bikes, they've held them at gunpoint, so I'm terrified," she said.
No gun was shown in the most recent robberies in the 900-block of South Michigan Avenue around 9 p.m. Saturday or another robbery the night before, just after midnight nearby on Printers Row.
In both cases, two or three men swarmed their victim, punching and kicking the person even after they were knocked to the ground. The men then stole wallets, cellphones and computers.
"I'm very surprised," said South Loop resident Bill Wigoda. "Maybe I'm nave [sic] and should worry about it but I don't. But I don't let me wife walk the dog at night."
Police have only a general description of the men wanted in the recent robberies.
In the 1st Police District, statistics for the year to date show robberies up 6 percent, but citywide robberies are actually down 7 percent.

The news media gave a description of two of the Victims ( one white male and one black male), gave the Victims age, and what was taken. There is no description of the OFFENDERS or who to look out for. Nice community alert news media.

I moved out of the city 12 years ago. One of my best moves or so it seems. I do have to come into town now and then for work and we do come in for social events. About a month ago I was in town for work and hit a pothole damaging my tire. It cost me $300 for a new tire. Yesterday, I received a speeding camera ticket from Marquette Park area for $100 bucks. Yes, I was going 11 miles over and was not paying attention. So that one day that I had to come into Chicago to make a few bucks cost me $400.
They supposedly got a couple for the robberies last night. Four victims so far. Good job guys in blue just be safe

My feeling is that they are not around after former Chicago Police Chief Jody Weiss stepped down and shortly after the Chicago Crime Commission published their excellent 2013 "Gang Book" which showed in brutal detail who, what, where of Chicago's hard core criminal gang members - overwhelmingly Black and Hispanic gangs.
We need private funded and run anti crime organizations as most everything public in Chicago could go the way of the Chicago Public Schools.
A private anti crime group like CCC would publicize wanted posters including accurate physical descriptions of the robbery, rape, murder suspects.

The South Loop and Downtown is littered with homeless, transients, mentals, and packs of roving youths piped in from either the red line or the green line. What's funny to me is when you mix all of downtown's problems up, analyze it, and come back with a possible solution. You know what that solution is?? CONTACT CARDS!!!! That's all the bosses in 001 (I'm sure citywide too) harp on about is contact cards! This, after Gmac sold us down the river with the ACLU and yet there's not enough contact cards!? Speaking of which, when do we get our receipts to hand out to these people each time we make "contact"? The old guys remember going to the domestic branch court in the rat hole building at 1000 south Michigan av, the elevator was full of bums and more bums and most of us ran to the 10th. floor via stairs. We knew the trash defendants/victims had a lung capacity of a 110 year old. and stayed clear of the stairs and only went to stairs to make pee-pee.
Had my rear passenger window of my personal vehicle broken. I got in my vehicle and did not notice the broken window for about 5 blocks and smelled shit. Pulled over an a fucking project bum from 22 street and State street was sleeping on the floor on the back rear floor. Those old Buicks were roomie. he poor soiled soul was then allowed to exit my vehicle. The dude was just cold and meant no harm, today he would of been shot, The new breed of mutts are rabid. My vehicle came close to having a flare thrown in the back seat. The smell lingered through the winter. The yuppies living there need to leave their vehicle unlocked to do the left wing "save the bum," shit.

I worked in 001 for 24 years and downtown as a civilian for 14 years before that. The libs ruined it down there for everyone. I once caught a purse snatcher that took a women's purse while she was exiting her vehicle. She held on to the purse until bad guy grabbed her 18 month old's leg who was in a car seat. Then she let the purse go. But Muffy didn't want to send the man to jail. He just got paroled to 1007 S. State. He subsequently raped and badly beat a victim. Time and time again after fights and foot pursuits, and chases, the libs didn't want to sign. Some just wanted to keep giving the poor "downtrodden" their USC. Day after day, year after year, they keep giving the same people money. What a bunch of chumps. This is what they have created. "Men" walking down the street with their date, while letting the homeless man put hands on her, grabbing her, begging for money. How many times did the beggars make their victims take them to a cash machine because bad guy didn't get enough money from the victim. I won't even get into the cons that make so much money down there it is ridiculous. And then there's begging with the babies, that aren't even theirs. Let's borrow some babies to beg. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. Then there are the businesses that never show up in court. What was always nice was when some construction worker became a victim. Usually he got his own stuff back and the offender was long gone with maybe a short trail of blood. It's been over for a long time! It only keeps getting worse.
