Shooting (IMPORTANT UPDATE!)(x2)

Rare midday post seeing as how this is the first fatal police shooting under the new IPRA regime:
  • Police said they shot and killed a man who fired at officers responding to several calls of a man with a gun and a home invasion in the 7300 block of South Paulina Street around 4:40 a.m.

"Responding officers were met by an armed offender and shots were exchanged," the Police Department said in a statement. "The offender was fatally wounded and a weapon was recovered. There were no injuries to officers."

The man was pronounced dead inside the home, according to Larry Merritt, a spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police shootings. The man's identity has not been released.
And a big thank you to the Tribune for quoting this moron on scene:
  • Carol Gyimatey woke up to gunshots early Sunday morning and police officers knocking on her door.

Gyimatey, 48, walked to the front door of her home in the West Englewood neighborhood and saw through the window officers with their guns drawn.

“I looked out and I said, ‘Put your guns down, I have children inside,’ ” she said. "They said, ‘There is a man with a gun next door, so you have to leave.’ ”

Gyimatey said she grabbed her sons, 17 and 12, and her 5-year-old granddaughter who was staying the night and rushed out the front door.
Really? "Put your guns down"? Who the hell is this idiot telling us how to do our job? OIh yeah, she's part of the "community" who knows so much about police work but says later in the article that crime is "a way of life" in her neighborhood. And this brilliant example of motherhood manages to have 17 and 12 year old sons along with a 5 year old granddaughter.

How about we say, "Fine. By the way, there's a guy with a gun shooting through windows and walls. Can we get your name for the police report when he manages to shoot you? Thanks, see you later."

And the attitude doesn't stop even when she finds out what's going on:
  • As Gyimatey talked, a police officer walked over to her.

“Can you come with me?” he asked.

“Why? I didn’t do anything wrong,” she said.

“I know. Some people wanna talk to you,” the officer said, and led her to a group of officers standing near her home.
Honest to god, Englewood should be Ignorant-wood. How about you try being helpful so you can, you know, fix your neighborhood and try to make a better life for your multi-generational disaster in the making.

No officers injured physically so a good start. We'll see what bullshit IPRA comes up with in short order. Best wishes to the Officers and an excellent job from our standpoint.

UPDATE: The Tribune removed all of the quotes from Carol Gyimatey without notice of correction or edit. You think they're trying to conceal an agenda?

UPDATE: Now the Tribune has put back the original article with all the Gyimatey ignorance on full display. Does anyone over at the Tribune actually have a hand on the wheel? Or is the whole thing being run by high school "journo" students?

It's just not her. But Americans in general are about as stupid as stupid can be. While on the CTA the brown line train stopped at the Fullerton stop. The conductor stated everyone needs to get off the train for safety reasons. Half got off and the other half stayed on. So that means half of the fucking passengers are idiots. In another example while going to the bank with my brother in law in Florida. We were waiting in line. All of a sudden I observed that three of the security guards were talked to by a man with a suit and they all had worried looks on their faces. The three security guards told everyone had to exit the building now. Two thirds of the customers refused to leave. Later on I learned that there was a credible bomb threat.

Cue: The 8th grade graduation picture. "He was gonna surrender." "His hands were up." "He was mentally ill." "Why didn't they shoot the gun out of his hand?" "Should have shot him in the leg." "Tasers!"

And that paragon of motherhood that was quoted... she has four sons. The 17 yo and 12 yo were home with the granddaughter. If she's 48, the granddaughter likely belongs to one of her older sons -- probably in their 20's or even 30. I'm sure they were out and about earning a living to get moms out of the hood.

Hundreds of armed idiots running around the area 24/7 trying to hold their pants up, people burglarizing suburban gun shops and bringing home literally buckets of pistols to sell on the streets around there, but when the police are called now it's "Leave your guns in the car" and "Put your guns down."

"Community" has gotten pumped real full of itself all of a sudden. You'd think that something had changed there, that something big had been accomplished. Someone has gotta get on top of something here, issue forth with some orders, and this is catching on now, I guess. After all, you can't talk to the gang bangers like that. You know what'll happen.

Thank God this lady was there to lay it down. Police are widely known to show up at 4:40 AM shining lights around and stuff, just for lack of anything better to do.

Oh -- did she answer the door with a bullhorn?

Any day now. Count on it.

While this was going on, an apparent legit gun owner shot and killed a home invader in her place, was the area 400 bk. E. 62nd?

...and two found shot dead in a car that had smashed into a planter, 3700 bk. N. California...

I had really hoped the police would have stayed out of any shootings or proactive police work, but this sounds like an assigned job. It also sounds like it was handled perfectly, regardless of the ignorant neighbors.

“I fear the police, and I shouldn’t have to. This is just not a way to live. … They have to come up with some way to calm down the fear we have with the police.”

Easy. "De-fund the police," as the demonstrators shout, and turn the entire operating budget over to "the black community" to kick-start our BCP's "For Us, By Us" strategy.

Then you will see murder and chaos unparallelled -- even for Chicago.

Be sure to set aside some portion of the money the revs and "community activists" don't steal for Cook County Morgue Expansion, Phase II.

Here's the real score at ground level as we see it.

#blackliesmatter, their hidden-hand liberal-progressive
Alinskyite supporters who fund them, the Chicago
media agit-prop apparatus and allied local democratic
political powers; are lusting for any and all instances of
hesitation by a Chicago Police Officer at the "moment of truth."

Honors funerals for Police Officers represent some sort of
very fucked-up, strangely justifiable/acceptable retributive
thing in their narrow and steeply slanted world view.

Ditto for "Da Communerty" as well.

Remember... These joyful haters have spilled much ink and
expended much political capital demonizing and villifying
street cops...

"We don't like that you Cops are talking so much about
going home to your families safe and sound no matter what.
You are no longer public servants with that kind of dangerous
and selfish mentality. You signed up for the job and swore an
oath to serve and protect us."

Remember...
Oath of Office is NOT a one-way suicide pact.
"To Serve and Protect" does not mean throwing
your hands up and allowing yourselves to be
sacrificed on the altar of Duty because so many
people and folks cannot wrap their heads around
the notion that a special kind of mean, ugly and evil
strides the streets of this city...

Nobody who isn't The Police has the stomach to
rub up against, or even dare to acknowledge what's
happening at ground level.

It's far easier to howl in faux outrage and demand that
The Police be "fixed."

Safer too...
Since The Police are vastly outnumbered as a voting bloc
and their financial impact leverage is intentionally blunted
by condition of employment.

Which means that the intentional outrages, slander and
government sanctioned vilification tends to go unchecked
by rightful retaliation.

(Grrrr! If we can JUST get one fist free.
Yonder shit-talker within our collective
"18" would be crawling around looking
for a goodly half dozen of his front teeth.)

You know...
Kinda like how elected officialdom is treading oh so lightly
when it comes to rubbing certain constituencies the wrong way.

Policemen are easy.
They don't loot, set shit on fire, lay down and obstruct
busy commercial thoroughfares and the like so...

"Exerting political pressure," when done by some.
"Termination-Worthy" if even broached on a public
forum by Policemen.

Good Job by The Police.

Now, unfortunately, some Policemen
will have to endure being on the business
end of CPD Use of Force policy as written by
#blackliesmatter, the aclu, the DOJ lynch-mob
and the new and given strange powers IPRA
because Rahm Emanuel is a craven, pandering
chicken shit who's actually way out of his depth
as a municipal corporation ceo.

Police like you have no friends.

Why worry about what the Chicago Tribune is printing? News reporting is now editorializing. It's not 'down the middle' anymore. Print reporting is dying. Network news is dying. The only way they stay afloat is offering an opinion of facts. Reporters are no better then the hacks who write for the 'inquirer ' ' the star'. Ignore it and stay the course. Protect yourselves and your partner. Stop offering these leeches anything. They need us more than they we need them.. Enough of the dorks who post " hey media, you paying attention to this?"

"But the ACLU rejects any correlation between declining street stops and rising violence, said Karen Sheley, director of police practices for the ACLU of Illinois. Other cities have scaled back their street stops without an explosion of shootings, she said.
The reduction of “invasive” street stops is actually a good thing, Sheley said."

How can it be a good thing when January breaks all records?!! ACLU won't be happy until there are no more police left, and our cities resemble CapeTown.

Why would you "tag" a Tribune truck? Do the drivers sit on the editorial board? Do they write reports or slant the news to make you look bad? Do you think that the owners of the Tribune or the editorial board give a rats ass about what you do to a driver? Do you think that by writing a driver a ticket that the editorial board will suddenly become pro police?

When you write a Tribune driver the only person you are hurting is the driver who is more than likely on your side. The powers that run the Tribune couldn't care less about what you do to their drivers. You can arrest the driver and confiscate his papers, they don't care. They will just send out another truck with papers. They actually think all these threats to write the Trib drivers are funny.

I know this because I used to work as a helper on a Trib truck when I was a kid. I had two uncles that drove Trib trucks for a living. They were blue collar working stiffs-just like you and me. Guys trying to make a living - just like you and me. Guys who were shit on all the time by Tribune managment-just like you and me. If you want to write Tribune or Sun-Times trucks because they drive unsafely and commit traffic violations and you are that bothered by it, have at it. At least you are writing them for the right reason. But when you write them because of what the Tribune editorial board prints or what some reporter says or how he/she slants their "investigative" piece, you are only fooling yourself if you think you are hurting the Tribune. Now if you were to write Neil Steinberg or Carol Marin or someone of their ilk, I'd buy you lunch myself. Because it is THEN and ONLY then will you have any impact on the Tribune by writing someone at that company or the Sun-Times a ticket.

One more thing. If you REALLY want to hurt the newsmedia, write their little broadcast vans with the reporters inside as they try to beat you to the scene of a crime. Delay them as much as you can. THEN you are hurting the newsmedia. When you do that sit back and watch the show as the newsmedia goes into panic mode because you have delayed their reporter from getting to a live story while the competetion is on the way. BTDT and it's great.

Look at history. Has a big boss ever done that? Will they risk all their wealth for you? Sure they can have your back for a SPAR or silly inspectors beef but every thing else is out of their hands and they know it. To all the bosses on down to Sgt.s....Can't you make the same street stops on supposed suspicious people that you expect us to do? Can't you do ISRs too?

IPRA asked hard hitting questions:

DID the officer ask you pleasantly to put the gun down?

Did the officer have any tattoos showing through his uniform and do you believe those tattoos were racist?

Did the Detective ask you trick questions like were you awake? Did you see anything?

Officer we need to search your car for possible cellphones?

How are the officers is the most important question. I heard it was chaotic but everyone did a good job.

This may already be posted but the Trib put the original article back up that has all the dumb quotes by Mama/Grandma, Carol Gyimatey.

The Trib must have a lot of CPD subscribers. Many of the comments under that article were in strong support of the police, and read like officers had posted them.

I actually believe the article was written originally to show the world the ignorant attitude of these people and maybe a little insight into what we deal with. It got all of you riled up because you think it somehow put the Police in a bad light. My reaction was the opposite, pointing out to family how the media has embolden these people to further victimize themselves. Yeah, crime is real bad here but how bout them Police.

I fear the bad guy with a gun robbing and threatening anyone at all, and the only thing between me and him is my own gun in my pocket or the police with gun in hand in the ready, sorry but the bad guy get no rights and his intentions dictate that! In the hood they are escared to challenge the bad dude gun toting gang banger, but would rather blame the police, there is a middle ground, people need to cooperate with the police then if things are not resolved complain otherwise if you are not part of the process for good your not a team player, you are part of the problem and have given the bad guy his due respect, fear, and because the police don't retaliate like the bad guy fear is on the side of the bad guy,no wonder these neighborhoods are barren! RBCPD!

I understand what you're trying to say but you might want to actually quit for your family's sake as well as your partner's.

The comment about Barb West and the other brass claiming to have "our backs" is the same old BS they have spewed for many years. The truth is they don't have our back because it's not up to them. We are responsible for our own actions PERIOD! I know of at least one captain, a few Lts, and several Sgts who do stop those same suspicious people, and you bet your ass they do the ISRs too. Now, what exactly is your point? You want supervisors to do your job for you? While they are the police, and can and do perform street stops, traffic stops, etc., it really isn't the supervisors' job to do that. It's your job. If you don't want to stop suspicious people, don't. Whining like a bitch on the blog about how the bosses aren't doing what you're supposed to be doing doesn't help. You sound like a spoiled child, whining because mommy and daddy get to stay up and watch TV while you have to go to sleep. Do your job, or find another one.

There is a certain demographic of people that marched in Marqutte Park in the early 1980's demanding fair housing. They got what they wanted and now look at that neighborhood, it has been trashed. I guess it is reminiscent of Englewood, Lawndale and other neighborhoods in this once great city. Oh, you say it is because of poor educational and employment opportunities? Does one need to be educated and employed to clean their homes and pick up the trash around their neighborhoods or are they just waiting for the government to come and do it. It is truly time for a change!!

I agree. They must have a good laugh at this lunacy. But i think giving the Steinberg or Marin a ticket is just as stupid. "Impact". I doubt it.

Worked in Englewood in 77, 78 and 79 and nothing has changed. The majority occupation there is " criminal " and most of the residents are as ignorant as any can be found on the face of the earth. Police Officers who work there must be on constant alert so as not to be falsely accused of all manner of bull shit. As we used to say, " they are born with two things, a hat on their head and a lie on their tongue." The only time I ever saw the crime in Englewood go down was when Leo Schmitz was Commander there but how could that be, he was white ?????
