More Supervision?
Word of another class of sergeants being made before summer because of two reasons:
- the number of sergeants retiring before the "55-and-out" expires is expected to be around 150
- the DOJ wants us back at the levels before Daley shrank the Department via attrition and Rahm slashed the budget. That would be around 1500 sergeants.
This may also mean another 100 lieutenants.
Another amusing note - the 003 District first watch lost every single sergeant they had via the most recent transfer order(s), so now the entire watch is about to be staffed by brand new white shirts with exactly zero experience.

If these new Sgts. will answer jobs and help, welcome. If you're going to sit around with your thumb up your posterior, we don't need you. We get any more Sgts. up north and they'll damn near outnumber the PO's. Well, but with all the comp time they have, you rarely see them anyway.

3 didn't lose every supervisor. Some d bag supervisor stole a transfer spot from someone deserving and decided to put back in his request for the ppo Sgt gig he was on. Way to be a class act right out of the gate merit puke.

Sounds pretty far fetched to me. Plus, the department would have years and years to comply with this if it's ordered by the Doj. First, the report isn't even done and released.. Usually you have a certain amount of time after the release of the report to comply. Don't get all excited. The city doesn't have the resources or money to promote that many for a long long time

What will it take to create a merit process or consider senior officers who are workers and not dogs for merit sergeant. I spoke to a high level chief who basically said that if you are a seasoned veteran with 15+ years and are a work, you don't have a chance at merit because preference is given to young know nothing officers thru nepotism or political favoritism. I'd rather have a blue shirt who's a worker than some suck hole who hasn't made an arrest in years or sits around community policing officer or worse in the front office.
Give the SEASONED VETERAN OFFICERS who are workers, that is, makes over 120 arrests a chance at merit. If you are on a tac or gang then you shouldn't include the magic math arrest that most of not all tac or gang units use. No one questions the fact that there are 220 working days in a year and then try to make you believe they have 400-500 or more arrest per year. That is total and complete BS

A few times there was only one supervisor in 003 on midnights, a guest sgt. Working as the DSS. There was no supervisor on the street.
Afternoons would only have 1 on the street and one as DSS, both guest sgt's. 3 sheets of cars to supervise the po's with 2-3 years experience.
Funny how the Inspector, Chief of Patrol and every other goof doesn't mention that. But have and broken camera or a missing mic watch out.
And is 35th street going to take a look at why every supervisor bids out of 003 the first chance they get?

Unlike the entire contract that will carry over and ensure your protections during the negotiating process ( contract safeguards remain) until a new contract is complete. The ONLY issue not is HEALTH CARE clause. It will EXPIRE end of JUNE. there is NO carryover. To get this benefit you MUST have papers in for retirement by end of MAY 2016. the health care provision WILL END at the end of sgts contract expiration date at the end of JUNE 2016. Free Healthcare for 55 and up will End. Same as FOP contract ending in June 2017.
The bottom line is you can't promote if you have massive retirements and nobody hired.
They can't get anybody, especially the people they want, to take the test.

Really GOOF....try reading the last printing of the monthly newsletter from PBPA. States clearly in print that you MUST HAVE PAPERS IN FOR RETIREMENT BY END OF MAY 2016 to get 55 and up health care benefit.......you lose it if you stay past JUNE 2016.
With all the responsibilities a supervisor currently has, I think it's crazy that on some nights my district only has one supervisor working the streets. If it's busy and there's a multiple serious incidents that requires a supervisor you'll be waiting a long time. (Just check the supervisor response times to a few officer involved shoothing.)

Wrong.
The FREE 55 deal ends sometime in late May of this year for sergeants.
After that, it goes to paying 2% of your annuity for health care.
For lieutenants, it ends around 11 October then they pay 2% also.
The free 55 deal ends 1 June 2017 for FOP then goes to 2%.. if you want to retire (as an FOP member) you MUST declare your retirement by 1 October 2016 to get the FREE health care.
If ANYBODY is at least 55 by the deadlines and you are maxed out you are CRAZY and STUPID for not going.

Um, yes it does. And so does the Lts. last chance is by October this year.
At least the POs in 003 can rest assured that these new Sgt are guys off the list with zero clout, otherwise why would they be on midnights in 003? The reverse is also true, the POs in good northside districts know the Sgt. they got are clouted up the wazoo. I mean 7 or 8 years on the job and your first assignment out of Sgt. school is in 020, 016, 017, 022? Give me a break.
As for working 003 I can say there are at least two very good sgts on 1st watch and a good DSS. Many good sgts on 3rd watch as well. I understand everyone bids out but as far as I know those sgts are still there on the above watches. Can't comment on the ppo sgt however.
003 is a very unique place. It's definitely a revolving door.

There's nothing wrong with working in 003. I've been there for a little over 12 years now; we've had a bunch of different commanders, but they really don't affect me or my job as a grunt. I have a good partner and I actually enjoy going to work. Lots of sergeants who get sent to 003 from the academy classes are north siders, so it's only natural that when they can bid out to areas or stations closer to home that they would want to do that. Usually, one or more of the lower seniority sergeants from 3rd watch will be moved to 1st watch to serve as a mentor to the newbie white shirts, until they are up and running on their own. From what I hear from friends in other districts, it's pretty much a standard move when a mass exodus occurs. I hope to make sergeant very soon, but until that happens, I have no problem working here in 003. The new commander seems like a very decent guy, likable and supports workers. You won't do much better than that anywhere else.
So that means 400+ more sgts to be made? Nah, I'm not buying it. That's millions upon millions of dollars they would have to spend and would deplete patrol way too much.. Unless that's why they just moved 360 recruits from the bikes/foot post into districts on beat cars. I suppose it's plausible if you're thinking of it that way. Plus, this rumor doesn't even come from the PBPA, fop or any actual person with knowledge. I've been hearing this rumor since before the Doj was even here

I agree. The sgt detailed to our district will only let these 2 girls take early lunch and time due at the end. The girls to assist that sgt quite frequently. I mean, they leave the ghetto and go to 014, only to return to the hood in less than a few months... Entitlement is a mofo and yes we need better supervision. I respect that officers will not be as proactive but to not assist officers or stay down on bogus jobs to screw other officers is unacceptable. Hopefully the 2 year wonder girls will learn to carry their weight. The whole watch is getting tired of it. And shame on who ever takes care of these 2 maggots. Wish i had long hair and used extra shampoo and conditioner so i can come late and leave early everyday just for flipping my hair around . Wish i can touch the skinny spider vained arm of a midget sargeant so I can leave early. I wish i was Bruce Jenner!?!?!?!
Years ago they had a great captain and good sgts.The captain retired and they ran off some great coppers and sgts.Just like the 10 year constant turnover in 005 when HQ doesn't care to address bad bosses everyone bids out.I have no loyalty to a district I choose to stay because of how I'm treated.

If anyone watched Lightfoot on channel 11 last night she said that the Sgts are going to be more responsible for the actions of the responding officer's. They will be disciplined for actions of their subordinates when reviewed by their office.
#2 will probably happen after the city enters into the consent decree and a Federal monitor is picked. Just go and read the LAPD decree. It changed alot especially supervision and added layers of it. Don't think it'll happen here......oh ok...and I have a bridge for sale.

WRONG on the sergeant's contract.
The sergeant's FREE age 55 heath care deal ends in late May 2016.
Then its goes to paying 2% of your annuity towards healthcare (About $2200 a year if you are maxed out.)
The sergeant's contract ends on 30 June 2016 however, the 2% WILL STAY in place until a new contract is finalized.
Also the FOP will keep the 2% deal when their contract expires 30 June 2017 until they come up with a new contract.
The goofs at the sergeant's union should be smart and not lose the 2% deal like they lost the free health care in the last round of negotiations thereby screwing everyone else.
The bad scenario is that the sergeant's can fuck over all the other unions AGAIN including Fire Local 2 if they fuck up in contract negotiations.
This is what the city is hoping for.
That is why the sergeant's deal expires a year earlier than FOP and Fire Local 2.

I've had the "pleasure" of working both 3rd and 1st watch and I had to switch to midnights for family reasons. I have seen what is now 3 different commanders while in 003 and I must say that this new one puts up a good front for the new guys with his " let me know if you need anything" and "I got your back" motivational speeches. He has a reputation of misleading his teams to believe that they can advance while in 003 but at the end of the day he is just looking out for himself and his numbers. As far as sgts on 1st watch go, we have been on the skeleton crew for the last couple months with only 1 original sgt left and he might be the best one. The 2 that have been detailed here are ok for the most part but it didn't take long for one to show favoritism to the aforementioned couple. They always seem to find a way to get out of doing work but then again, so do a few others. I've heard them brag about leaving early and even call some of the newer guys rookies, forgetting that they themselves are still young in this game. The officers on the watch are good for the most part. Haven't gotten too many new guys lately aside from a bunch last fall. A handful of muscle bound runts, bearded freaks, and creepy cats. They all mean well and work but still green nonetheless. Our hard chargers keep the lights on with their activity but we can stand to have more supervisors out there. I would still pick midnights over third any day of the week though.

You should be proactive hard charger and read the admin messages more often. You see when they ask for merit its first announced on the admins. A good leader takes initiative and doesn't wait for someone to tell them what to do. Apparently you still need somebody to hold your hand and tell you when they are looking for merit. I didn't call you a bone stroke not have I ever heard that term but it's not bad... And I too think you are a bone stroke. And yes... I have 21 years on, I work and I'm on a tac team. I don't know what magic mah crap you're talking about but it sounds fun. I'm not merit either and go figure I'm an actual veteran of the marine corps, a 21 year vet of the department and have worked everyday of my career. Am I bitter?? Hell no. They do a great deal of nothing. Ask them to do a case report and they are down for 3 hours. Doing god know what? While the rest of the watch is taking thier jobs. But it's not thier fault it's those Sgts that let them get away with it.
Who cares! Chicago sucks and so does this department. Give'em what they asked for a fetal department. They are looking to hang is all you are stupid to be proactive.
