Entrance Exam Count

With all the hullabaloo over all police being racist and Rahm running the Department into a 3,000 man shortfall and the Entrance Exam deadline being extended an extra month before the test was given this past Saturday, you'd think the media would have had a few interns at the testing site actually counting those who went in to take the test and maybe interviewing some to see what their impressions were.

We've had a few comments and e-mails stating that a 50-to-60% turnout was the norm in certain testing rooms, but it might have been worth it for an actual Investigative reporter to go out and do some legwork to figure out what's what.

But then we remembered that they just republish whatever Rahm tells them to and don't actually, you know, fact check anything.

investigative reporter???? hahahahah, no such thing. The "news" these days if filled with young kid hipster reporters who are do gooders who just read the news and take an interview with anyone as gospel. they show up to a scene and the first mutt they talk too is taken as fact without any following up. so gullable and blind to what a real big city is like... Most of them are transplants from other small towns, cities and other states. they have no clue what the real world really is or what happens in a big city.. except they think they know everything about it because they are so "trendy" and hip now that they "made it big" in big city chicago. A bunch of know it all, college educated self important hipsters.

I've actually heard the same from people that have been hired during the lie box era which makes zero sense to me. None of us were perfect before we were hired, so why start people off on this job by forcing them to lie if they want the job? Seems like that'd be what the department is trying to get away from...

The one person I know that took the test related that people were told not bring their phones to the exam, but of course everyone did. Not only that, but many of the people failed to turn off their phones, and many of them answered calls and texts during the exam without being removed from the exam. I can't substantiate this, but if true, are you really going to let people make up the rules as they go along? Seems to set a tone for how they believe they'll be disciplined in the future.

I work for County at 26/Cal in the jail. There were quite a few of us there..... As for the count? I'd say 1/3 didn't show up. Whatever lies the City said about 14,000 people applying are B.S. I couldn't see more than 3,000 or so actually showing up for each test. You're looking at less than 5,000 people who actually pass this test. It took them exactly 2 years to run through 12,900 people last time. Which means this list will be good for a year. 18 months at most!

Fact checking? What is that? Facts and evidence means nothing to certain members of the comminty, just ask the people in Ferguson, Baltimore, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, the mayors racism task force, black Revruns, black pastors, black activists, Richard Wooten, the unemployed people of black lives matter, local politicians , and the media. We need facts and evidence to do our job, all the previous need is a conveinent narrative. Be safe

Ummm...actually that is horrible advice. A number of people that are now on the department admitted to a lot of dirt on the lie detector and passed as a result of telling the truth. Maybe it just depends on who administers the lie detector? I've heard people talk about there experience with the person who administered the polygraph. Some say their person was laid back, others say their person was a straight up bitch/asshole trying to intimidate.

Most of the reporters on the ground at the Trump rally in Chicago were anti-American. They actually preferred other countries when engaged in conversation. So it's no wonder why none would be at the police test.

Even if you hate Trump, he's the best choice for a free country. Your even free to hate him, but still do a solid for America.

In a weird way it makes sense to me. This is a gray area job. Period. An offender will commit a crime in a very black and white area. Felony review will see it as gray and won't approve it or a jury will see it as gray and acquit the guy. And life goes on. Some people can't live in the gray. This stupid test is like an orientation: How to navigate useless bureaucratic nonsense that really doesn't prove anything. The mere thought of the process will freak some guy out, make him sweat like a hog and fail miserably trying his best to be honest about a noneventful life. Some other guy will be cool as a cucumber and not emphasize his screw ups and make them appear to be anomalies in his life. Imagine yourself on a car stop investigating something or other...which guy do you want as your partner?

Was asked to give a recommendation for a cop's kid. Really don't want this slacker on the job. Parents say the kid needs the benefits and pay bumps over the first five years. Kid is a C-student type. Smoked some dope. Said he will quit the chronic if he gets on. God help you if you call the police and he gets the call. He is from Norwood Park.

Hold on now. I think that you are being way too critical of this kid.

#1: He's a slacker.
Yeah, so? The City and the Department really don't want aggressive hard-hitting take charge types on this job. Want the soft, sensitive de-escalating type. This kid won't go charging un, guns blazing, inciting the "downtrodden community."

#2: He needs the pay and benefits.
Who doesn't? Good paying job. Especially if one is not a particularly ambitious gifted or talented individual.

#3: He's a C student.
The world is run by C students. You don't want anyone too smart or too dumb on this job. Too dumb, they do stupid sh!t and make bad headlines. Too smart and they get angry and frustrated at all the hypocrasy.

#4: He smoked dope.
So did Bill Clinton. So did Barry Obama.
Says he will quit if he gets on. He better or he won't be on long. Couldn't be worse than some of the hard-core drinkers that have been on this job.

So even if the kid becomes an "average cop" he's better than some. Especially those that don't even show up.

It was 80 questions and the 2 hour exit was close to accurate. The test allotted 2.5 hours but you could leave whenever you finished. And obviously, that test definitely didn't take 2.5 hours for people who didn't have a hard time. This test is definitely going to weed out many - there was much more than the matching numbers list and 5th grade English. I don't see the thugs doing well on this test. Certain people are going to be whining again about the tests being unfair.

Would anyone kindly offer more insight/opinion on the polygraph portion of the hiring process? What to expect? Do they inquire about your whole life or just the last x# of years? Would anyone corroborate the advice given earlier to just lie, fail the test, and get hired anyway? I believe I'm a competitive candidate with no record and I've matured a lot in the last 7 years. I have some things in the past that I imagine being 100% honest about would take me out of the hiring process. Thanks for your time.

Some of the best cops come from MG and Beverly and the northwest side, real chicago neighborhoods where you fight with your fists instead of the fucked up neighborhoods where they kill each other. You glorify the ghettos when the people there have no respect or loyalty toward each other like the people of MG/Beverly or the northwest side do. But if you think cps grads would be better than MG or northwest siders than how about the cps grads and people who grew up in the ghetto work in those neighborhoods and the people who grew up in MG and the NW side will patrol the southwest and northwest sides. This way you can show the world how better you are at controlling the high crime fucked up areas since you grew up there.
