Just Once...We Swear!

By hook or by crook, Rahm got the guy he wanted and made Lightfoot look like an ineffective tool. He also got the City Council to stifle its rebellious streak:
  • A Chicago City Council panel took action Tuesday to temporarily change the process for selecting the city's top cop and fast-track Mayor Rahm Emanuel's choice for new police superintendent.

After a mini-debate over whether to bypass the Chicago Police Board, the Chicago City Council Public Safety Committee held what amounted to a confirmation hearing for superintendent-to-be Eddie Johnson.

[...] Johnson did not apply for the superintendent's job, but was tapped by Mayor Emanuel after rejecting the three candidates nominated by the Chicago Police Board after a nearly three-months-long, half-million-dollar nationwide search.

The council's public safety committee debated whether to temporarily suspend the law requiring the mayor to select from police board recommended candidates so Johnson can get the job.
Remember, this is the same body of politicos who "suspended" another law to allow Dick Mell (and only Dick Mell) to re-register a bunch of guns he "forgot" to renew the permits for a number of years back. Now they're allowing Rahm the same sort of "one-time" leeway.

It must be nice to be so arrogant as to alter the law to throw Rahm a life preserver.

These idiots think that the low morale and fetal policing are because we didn't have a permanent superintendent?
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I don't know Eddie Johnson and have heard decent things about him but him being Superintendent will it cause me to have better morale and police less fatally.
My morale is shot due to a few things:
The ACLU having too much influence on how we police.
The "community", and media, constantly bitching and moaning about us racist police.
The politicians, namely Rahm, quickly throwing entire department under the bus to pander to the "community"

So in summary until the above things change my morale will suck and I'll be as fetal as ever.

I still say - Swan Lake is doing this so he will look like a hero (NOT) if (IF) crime stats decrease (and we ALL know what that means - no report, no crime - crime, downgraded crime).

Fuck him. Was something promised to the new sup to suddenly change his tune to become sup?

All this shows you is that we can do without half the 50 Aldermen.

There was a unanimous vote - 50:0. Rubberstamp Aldermen is all Chicago has. So cut back the budget to 25 or even 20 Aldermen (and their staffs) and the city could save some REAL money without cutting back any services.

In fact, take half the money saved and either add some police OR pay down some of the pension deficit and the other half, don't spend at all.

Now THAT is the BEST plan I have heard in years.

Simple, easy, and could be swiftly implemented.

Plus, it would be great to see 25 people (and their staffs) handed pink slips so they finally get a taste of reality of Chicago's shrinking economy. (much of it due to their own incompetence)

OT...Just saw the new Supt being sworn in on the TV. Just a question...When I was sworn in as a police officer..and as a sergeant....and as a lieutenant (no merit promotions)...I was told to raise my right hand and then recite my oath. Our new supt (along with our governor a short time ago), rasied his left hand. My question is: "Did they change the policy since I retired?" Or "Does the new supt know his right from the left?" My five year old grandchild knows the difference. And he is our new leader!!!!

The new Supe can be controlled. He will obey his political masters. An outsider would be a headache. The only dept. Guy on the fonal three is up to his shorts in a testing scandal.

Just ask Hillary Clinton.

Another glimpse of just how corrupt and fucked up the City government is. And it seems there is not a damned thing anyone can do about it anymore. There is no adversarial press. They are part of the corruption.

Rahm is the master politician. Sort of a combination of Bill Clinton and B. Obama rolled into one, with maybe a little bit of FDR thrown in. He may be invincible. Just hope he never runs for president.

I'm guessing the revs gave their seal of approval, the city council has nothing to do with it, who are you kidding. In the meantime, they keep shooting each other in the south and west sides, nothing is going to change. Doesnt matter what color of boss is the superintendent. Doesn't matter who is wearing a camera, doesn't matter what color of skin is doing the patrolling, doesn't matter they don't trust the police, blah, blah, blah. They will continue to shoot each other, because it's a gang thing, it's a power thing, it's a money thing, it's a "disrespect" thing, it's a no values thing, it's a no parent role thing, it's a lack of family structure thing, it's a no control of impulse thing, it's an immediate gratification thing, etc.

Was it only me, check the TV videos...
Did anyone notice that when Eddie Johnson was being 'sworn' in, taking the 'oath' of office, he had his LEFT HAND raised to take the oath.
(Perhaps keeping his fingers crossed would have been too obvious at that point)
From now on everyone meeting him in an official or unofficial capacity should salute or shake with the left hand.

Additional definition of Irony: When a Chicago Machine Politician circumvents and violates the law to run for Mayor, he knows being above the law he appoints "his guy" to a position with the intent that this illegal appointment will build trust with the rank & file as well as the community that the Machine/Media indoctrinates to hate the Police. So now the new Superintendent, the one who without doubt has accountability in his girlfriend's miraculous exam score, is going to preach to his underlings the importance of honesty and valor that should be indicative of every Law Officer. Another example of the Chicago Way.

Rahm's political career is in the toilet. Since he's incompetent, he's flailing around like a windmill in a hurricane, hoping something - anything! - will work and will save him from this full-blown disaster he's created.
