- The Chicago Police Department will add nearly 100 new officers to the force Tuesday, and Chicago needs the help.
The murder rates surpassed 300 over the weekend -- only halfway through the year -- compared to 480 homicides in all of 2015. The new officers will hit the streets following yet another very deadly weekend with a tally of 13 murders and 46 people wounded between Friday evening and Monday morning.
The latest police graduation will add 97 new officers and 88 new sergeants to a force struggling to fight deadly violence.
Psssst, media? Here's a dirty little secret - these 97 "new" cops have already been on the street, some for more than a few months.
You see, Rahm is a busy man, and he can't be bothered to take time out of his schedule every time a class of recruits graduates. So they hold off on "graduation day" until Rahm's schedule opens up. Then they pull 97 cops off the street, disrupting District schedules across the city, court appearances in a few cases, and sleep patterns of officers working first or third watches so Rahm can get his face on the news with all these "new hires" that have already been on the street. Essentially, Chicago was short 200 officers yesterday for a photo op.
Same thing with the 88 sergeants. They've been in the Districts for nearly a month on all the different watches. But everyone has to drop everything and dress up and smile for the mayor's press releases.

I know this to be True... But in my son's case he Graduated yesterday as well... It just so happened that his class Group A,B,C,D just got their Stars last Friday and finished their training a day or two later. He did one tour on afternoons the day before Tues graduation.

It doesn't matter what you say. 80% of the department gets it- respond to your calls, back each other up, be very careful with your actions and do not be proactive. 10% of the officers are on the fence. Then we have another 10% who are still proactive and aggressive. That 10% will never get it. Because they identify their ego and self worth with their uniform and job. Their entire self identity is governed by "being the police and acting like it". I would even garner that this is how they behave when at home.
It looks like Hey Jackass should apply their "accounting" skills to tracking the REAL NUMBERS that define the Department' strength. Perhaps through FOIA or court order they can get actual numbers to start with and apply the changes each month for a real time, reconciled true number.
Too bad there are no true journalists anymore. What a five-part "watchdog" story this could be: "Decimated Department," "Deliberate Dismantlement," "Fuzzy Math Personnel Data Dishonesty ," "Social Justice Distractions," and "Violence in the Street." It's got Pultzer written all over it.
All adds up to a bottom line of a deliberate and calculated effort to bankrupt the City (morally and fiscally). Just for good measure they might throw in some alinsky and g. "soros" background to really illuminate the master plan, but that will never happen in this compromised town . . .

Stop with the false numbers people! As of yesterday there are 10,718 active patrol members of the FOP. Of course all of those people are not all in beat cars and include detectives, et's marine, canine, mounted.
If we are ever going to get things done we have to stop providing a false narrative just like people are saying the city is doing these graduates and promotions.
FOP should come out and say we have 10,718 active members but those include the above mentioned po's assigned as detective, et's, marine, etc. Then we also have X amount of those 10,718 people assigned/detail to inside spots at the academy, headquarters, areas, districts which leaves us with X amount of patrolman actually sitting in a beat car answer calls.
Just so you are ready though the flip side of this will be the City will send all those active duty po's to the street and replace them with civilians like they are at the desk, FOI, ERPS. The city is not going to hire 3,000 additional PO's. They will continue to "civilianize" clerical spots inside and shift those po's outside. When they do this you can not bitch that I lost my inside desk spot or inside clerical spot.
That 10% still out looking for criminals, what will it take to get it. Go to your jobs, write your paper back each other up. But go looking? Your foolish.
I've been retired for over 3 years from a suburban department on the southwest side of Chicago. I live in the upper peninsula in one of the largest counties(population 17,000-more deer than people-but decent law abiding people). Been working on my daughter's place in Delavan, WI, and haven't had a lot of internet access so very little time to check second city cop. Just did, and after reading 6 or 7 days of posts just have to think to myself "what the hell is going on in the city?" Things are out of control, and the "higher ups" aren't worth a crap, and don't have your backs. My daughter still works/lives in the city, and has to. That's why I told her not to buy a place in the city, rent a damn apartment.
God Bless you guys and gals out there. The real totals from the past ten days are unreal. Stay safe and go home to your families. Chicago sounds worse than some third world country. The worst part is the rank and file is doing a thankless-no win job/damned if you do-damned if you don't.
My wish for you if you want to continue your career in law enforcement, go somewhere where they appreciate LEO's. The money might not be as great, but knowing that your family and you will be somewhat safer is worth every penny.

We always wondered why the CPD would promote detectives, youth officers and ftos and two months later promote sergeants, many of whom had just left patrol for a d/2 rank. It always screwed up the numbers. It's a half assed way to run things.
