- In a rare move, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been ordered to testify in an ongoing federal trial over a lawsuit filed by eight Chicago police officers who say they were dumped from the mayor's security detail for political reasons after he took office five years ago.
But while Emanuel will have to give answers under oath, the ruling Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber does not mean the mayor will have to take the witness stand in court.
Instead, Emanuel will likely sit for a deposition taken in private by attorneys in the case. The transcript would later be considered by the judge as far as one allegation of the lawsuit — that the city violated the so-called Shakman ban on political hiring when officers who had volunteered for the mayor's campaign were placed on his new security team in 2011.
This is a ridiculous lawsuit, we've said so time and time again. They got their positions as a result of politics, plain and simple. Regimes change and new clout arrives. You aren't entitled to a clout spot once your clout disappears. These guys got D-3 (E-3) pay - sergeant salary - without taking an exam, without getting a promotion, without anything but a phone call and maybe an interview with Shortshanks (or his designee). Not only that, but they got to work Special Employment at the higher rate, racking up untold tens of thousands of dollars based on nothing but politics.
Even the Sergeants in charge got bumped up to Commander pay for running a political detail. And now the out-clouted are suing for a political appointment. Amazing.
Don't expect to see Rahm on the stand though - he'll buy his way out of it again, with our tax money.

Scc, thompson told them when they were getting dumped "your only sin is the color of your skin". Now if it was the other way around it would have been settled already. Plus they have emails to back up other details. Its not pretty but hey. Now should they be getting paid that, probably not.
I don't really understand not having mayors testify. Because it would take up too much time? If he were called for jury duty, would too much time be an excuse? If a CEO of a business or a surgeon were a witness in a trial, would s/he be able to skirt an appearance because it would take up too much time? Isn't there the right to cross examine? (not just in deposition).
How many were paid well because they never heard or saw nothing in all their years on the detail?

How about change the pay to what your rank is. If you VOLUNTEER then do so at your rank, not for the bump in pay. These guys are full of s**t. They aren't there for duty to service, they are there for the power that position gives them. Get over your arrogant self and get a side job like everybody else.

A deposition is better. The attorneys can ask him literally anything (that is not protected by privilege) and he MUST answer under the penalty of perjury! If he were on the stand his attorney could make a relevancy objection but in a deposition? The practice is the objection is made, and the deponent MUST answer the question. Later, a judge can rule on the admissibility of the particular questions and answers but you can't unring the bell...once the answer is given, it is part of the transcript. If the deponent lies EVEN ON AN ANSWER GIVEN THAT IS LATER RULED INADMISSIBLE he committed perjury. These attorneys should have about 5 minutes of relevant questions and then fire away! You get one 7 hour period in a federal dep....make it count counselor!!!

Now with the elimination of VRI we will have twenty or so Impact Zones, which are the most violent areas of the city, no longer policed at a heightened level. The violence in these areas is sure to go up. If someone could keep track of the increased violence in these areas, It would provide empirical proof of the violence reduction capacity that a focused police presence can achieve.

I was on a detail a short time made the money, not enough time for the generous sergeants pension, but the understanding was "you serve at the pleasure and discretion of the elected" so when your guy/girl leaves your subject to demotion to civil service rank! Using the old racist excuse, Brian may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, the mayor surely told him how he wanted it, coppers that supported him through their sponsors got the positions! All of Harold Washington's detail was dumped when Richie The Short Stuff became Mayor. There were two or three Detectives on that detail who had to fight to remain Detectives. The powers to be went out of their to fuck that detail. But you know, not one of them sued or said anything. These cry-babies took a political job knowing from past details, once a new Mayor comes in he or she has the right to pick whomever they want.

Tell you what, when you can learnt eh correct use of were, wear, & where and then two, to & too I will gladly fill you in on the names of the eight, and the units and districts they're (there/their) assigned to (two/too).
Any a nickels worth of free advice for you... At 145AM, you should stay away from the keyboard and maybe drink more from that bottle in moms basement, Rook.
