Airport Nonsense?
Someone wrote in the comment section that there is an order, currently posted in the O'Hare C.O. Book, that Officers are forbidden from using the "family" restrooms at the airport, but must instead use the regular public washrooms.
As the commentator said, that isn't really that intelligent, given that a full duty rig down around one's ankles is an invitation to someone in the next stall grabbing hold of things and wreaking havoc. There aren't any "employee only" restrooms that might be single use? Or something similar out of the public eye that doesn't mean a trip back to the substation?
Unfortunately, their language tended to the scatological, so we "flushed" it.... in a manner of speaking.
But this is yet another example of Department shortsightedness - outdoor roll calls set up in conjunction with aldercreatures and "community"groups, many of whom wish us ill; DUI checkpoint locations advertised weeks in advance; day-glo vests at outdoor events, that make picking out targets as simple as ABC; promoting unqualified girlfriends and wives by feeding them test answers; etc, etc.

And when the equipment is stolen from around your ankles or from the hook behind the door, the department will be looking to suspend the poor male/female cop. Adding insult to injury the department then tells the cop they should have gone to the O'Hare station to better secure their equipment.

A female instructor at the academy told us a story that when she went to the head, a hand reached over and grabbed her duty belt from the hook on the door where she hung her duty belt and fled with it, including her duty weapon. Great idea, you idiots, have an armed copper on the head with his weapon either on the floor or on the hook on the john door. What could go wrong? Who knew? Fucking idiot civilians! You dummies don't know how to run a restaurant, quit telling the help how to do their jobs. You aren't police, quit telling us how to be the police, you don't know how to be the police. Safety is way behind good optics. Insuring good optics is much more important than safety. The department's reputation depends on it's having good optics. Citizens expect it.
once used the family restroom at Target downtown during a detail...noone was waiting and I finished up quickly ....got dirty looks upon exiting--but don't care---it is not easy to be a female wearing duty gear....its why you identify the best places to make a pit stop in every quadrant of your district....station, hospital (but away from ER), restaurant where they let you use the kitchen/employee facilities- or where there is a one person locked room toilet (clean- not a way station for homeless or addicted)...harder to find on midnights (esp now that we have less hospitals!)
Publication of the DUI checkpoints ahead of time is a requirement for them to occur, since they entail stopping people without reasonable suspicion. This is what the courts have said is required.
I was hassled by CPD at O'Hare on Friday. They were camped en masse just outside the immigration entry point in the International Terminal. That is the area where you get your bag and recheck it, or take it to customs.

These people were in the most secure area outside of a prison. Now, after a 9hour flight are confronted with goons with guns.

Yes, there are some more private washrooms at the airport, but you have to get off you ass and find them. But since they are owned by the airlines and used by the employees, sometime they lack that clean feeling.
It is embarrassing to see a family waiting to use this bathroom while the kids start squirming and then pops out a employee. That looks bad. I might add, the biggest offender seems to be the TSA, not CPD.
Also, I heavy traffic times, it could take 10 to 20 minutes to get to the station.
Just tell anyone who asks that you are using the washroom you are most "comfortable" in, considering your "gender identity," and that ought to shut them up right there.

And there is no harassment, read your ticket and agreement, you agree to any searches and checks of your identification at any point of travel. Next time float over in your VW Beetle troll.
Outdoor Roll calls were suspended right after Dallas. I'd requested one for a location that border two beats where a (very rare) shooting had occurred. It was approved and we were getting ready to announce it with a neighborhood get together honoring our police officers afterwards when we got word that 35th street put out a directive -- No Outdoor Roll Calls -- based on Dallas. Planning something different now.

Coppers shouldn't be hassled for using the family restrooms. Most of the airport terminal managers respect the CPD too much to be that petty.

When I was in 011 and LT JA(aka jam you up johnnie Andrews) was out on a smoke break or, out trying to jam up a copper. I used to sneak in and use the WC restroom and leave him a present. If it is good enough for him to use then it is good enough for me to use.

Okay, you were tired.
It was a long wait and Germany's security is tight.
Then, you had a long flight and there were a couple of crying babies onboard.
And then, taxi time and wait time for a gate and disembarking with all that overhead luggage and mama's cookies in boxes and what-have-you. Filling out the onboard customs documents added to the stress.
Then the long walk, the inbound customs lines, the scrutiny from the agents and the security folks checking you out...
I get that you felt stressed, but those GOONS you're complaining about exist to keep people safe. You have no idea what other threats had occurred, what intel they had, what heightened alert was in place.
You were inconvenienced because someone wanted to see your passport? Well, every victim of terrorism in and out of this country has been WAY more inconvenienced than you were in those last minutes of your return to this incredible country. Please just get over yourself. It truly isn't all about you; it's all about EVERYONE and EVERYONE's safety and security. Traveled 100 times to and fro. CPD is no where in customs and never asks for Ausweise.
