- A third Chicago police officer has been relieved of police powers after department brass made the preliminary determination that officer and two others violated policy when they fired their weapons in an incident that killed an 18-year-old man, a police spokesman said Saturday.
Three officers fired their weapons in the incident that left [a gang banging car thief], 18, dead after police say he sideswiped a squad car and hit a parked car while driving a stolen Jaguar, injuring some officers about 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 7400 block of South Merrill Avenue. Police officials announced Friday that two of the officers were relieved of their police powers, and the third was relieved of police powers on Saturday, police spokesman [...] said.
See that phrase, "injuring some officers"? That's Aggravated Battery with a weapon weighing a ton-and-a-half. Seems kind of deadly to us. And the total disregard for uniformed officers traveling in marked cars? What's to stop him from disregarding a little old lady crossing the street? State law and General Order seem to conflict with the prevailing "community" feelings, and everyone knows "feelings" are the new currency of the realm.
Funny how the Department brass are demanding ISR's, for which we need Reasonable Articulable Suspicion checked by a sergeant, reviewed by downtown and audited by the ACLU. And if we happen to actually arrest someone, we need Probable Cause, sworn under oath, checked by a sergeant, and reviewed by a Detective, a Assistant State's Attorney and ruled on by a judge. But Special Ed can make a determination on three officers' livelihoods in under 48 hours just using the power of his massive brain.

I would like to know how the French would deal with their Police after shooting at a crazed driver in a deadly vehicle? Under these General Orders, the truck would still be driving over people, instead of the driver getting shot and killed and ending the threat to citizens. Anyone that loses their job or any benefits (ot, ct time, side job) because of an IPRA investigation should sue IPRA, the "investigator, and the city for the violation of state law.

Sorry to inform you but THIS is bad. The city wants video released asap. These 3 are on the chopping block. 2, if not all 3 will be facing 30 pending. Well it seems law and order is gone and the city has been handed over to criminals. Makes me feel good about some street justice I dealt out a few years ago after a random attack in my neighborhood by some ghetto thug. He ran away hurt and dripping blood. I walked away w some broken ribs and a fucked up face, but no where near the damage I caused him. Never called the cops. Felt guilty about hurting someone for a while, but those feelings are long gone. Hopefully that thug never fucks w a white law abiding citizen ever again. Refuse to pay another dime in city or state taxes. Going to start another business, but this time out of state. What exactly would have happened if the officers caught this youth with the stolen car? Nothing would have happened to him. Cook county courts would either find no pc or find him not guilty or he would get a meaningless probation. The police would have their statements and very integrity questioned. The above poster proves once again what short memories coppers have. Big Al had a magical career, all desert and no vegetables. Great spots and little to no real supervision of officers to derail that career path someone set forth for him. All those greased rails and he did exactly what for the Department and it's members? But he was very well paid.

We all want to make the arrest that is why we become Police Officers, but not at the expense of your safety or well being to recover an object of property, a car that should be insured and probably was taken in an act of negligence by the owner, keys in ignition for which you will not get felony charges without the dog admitting he knew the car was stolen. dude will exit the car when it is out gas or he has to take a crap. Recover it and let the owner argue about the tow charges, it won't hurt your day.

The difference between a cop and a criminal is that we react in a millisecond and do so with good intentions, whereas a criminal makes a conscious effort to deliberately victimize others and/or, commit dangerous and reckless acts to evade or defeat an arrest. Now I know better. This job does not love you. This city does not care about you getting home to your family and if you step in shit this department will destroy you. Not because you are wrong. But because they need to prove that they are being tough on officers. Most of these officers will survive these stripping. But their work ethic and their will to make a difference will be effected.
Find a partner that works at your pace. Don't let bosses that can't save your ass convince you to do more than you are comfortable with and keep each other safe. For me fetal sounds great.

I was young and full of piss and vinegar when I worked the wagon with an old-timer who I believe did not even have a driver's license. So I was driving and a call of a burglary in progress was given and I raced to the scene only to be about the 6th or 7th vehicle to arrive.
I don't remember if there was an arrest or if the call was unfounded, but when I got back to the wagon the old guy asked "did you catch your burglar?" I never did that again.

Wasn't there on this incident. But can imagine what happened.
The officers were under attack by a 3500lb weapon (a vehicle) and fearing for their lives, fired their weapons.
They made a split-second decision in the heat of the moment. And now the "experts" want to judge them on absolute standards. While the person that violated the law and caused this incident is given every slack and consideration.
Surprised Carol Moron didn't suggest that the police shoot the keys out of the ignition.

In other words, we know that the Department is overreacting, agreed?
But where was the angst from cops years ago when it was the other way around? If the police did not complain when bad officers were left to be worse officers, and did not complain (publicly or privately in such a way that it was noticed by anyone) when bad officers did criminal things to city residents, then why should there be any concern from those same cops when the Department overreacts when it thinks bad officers are out there being bad?
