- Two Chicago police officers have been relieved from their police powers after Thursday night's shooting that left one man dead, according to the Office of the Police Superintendent.
A suspect behind the wheel of a stolen car was shot and killed by Chicago police Thursday night, officials said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the person shot by officers as [a dead gang banging car thief], of the 1700-block of East 70th Street.
A statement from the Superintendent's Office said while the incident is still under investigation by IPRA, CPD investigators determined three officers discharged their weapons. It appeared that departmental policies may have been violated by at least two of the police officers, the Superintendent's Office said.

For the last 2 weeks, I've been working on the south side of Chicago. It's the first time I've worked in the Chicago area or even visited for +30 years.
I needed a can of marking spray paint to spot where I wanted equipment installed.
At a nearby Walmart Superstore I found the spray paint locked up which was a first for me. Once the key was found and the locker opened I asked the clerk why were items worth $5 or less locked up. She stated "the store had to... customers would grab cans and go around spraying everything".
I remember going to Navy Pier to see Willie Nelson one night and Waylon Jennings the next. None of my coworkers liked country music so I went alone and didn't think twice about it. Thirty years later... you have to lock up spray paint so people won't vandalize your own store with it!
Maybe I ought to rethink this Chicago job...

I give credit when credit is due. The superintendent Eddie Johnson has stripped every officer that has been involved in a police shooting since he's been in. He is pretty real about sending a signal to bad officers. I respect that. So now we have to strip these guns from our criminals, and hold our elected officials accountable to invest in our neighborhoods. We have to all work together and change the reality of Chicago.

Street criminals will give up their guns when our society stops overpolicing and impoverishing minority communities. Getting police brass like Johnson to strip officers is a huge step, no question. The next steps are to get the criminals with badges charged, prosecuted, convicted, and imprisoned on par with other killers. If that is the case, how is someone injured by being stripped? It appears to be a paid vacation in effect.
One would think the cop would relax and enjoy his extra paid time off. catch up on his cross word puzzles or something.

Thanks for reading and sorry but you'd have to see it to believe this shit. The courts are terrible, citizens hate the police and it seems like no matter what you do you're always wrong. Proactive policing is dead here, aside from the few who have yet to learn that hard way that even when you're right you will pay. Many times recently I've heard "run a plate in traffic, squad" and it returns to a hot car. Initially I think, "let's go!" As the chase begins but then my logic takes over and my partner and I look at each other and say "fuck no." Luckily, the vast majority of officers respond to dispatch saying "no squad, I wasn't chasing. He was last seen - bound, I lost him and deactivated my equipment when he took off." The funny thing is when the shots fired/person shot calls come out in similar situations where coppers do not pursue vehicles and later the calls come in and the car matches the description. Hey, it's what the people want and so they shall receive. I'm not ending up on the tribune, in jail, stripped, disgraced and sued if I can help it. It's fucking depressing.

I'll explain it to you. When an officer is "stripped", it means the department has set the wheels in motion to FIRE THAT OFFICER. It also leaves the officers wide open for a civil suit and usually sets the stage for criminal charges to be filed as well. So, although you might view it as a paid vacation, most officers that are stripped are actually shitting in their pants.

The officers that were stripped were not being proactive per say, tac was following a stolen car that took off on them. They just went to assist and got thrown into a shit storm and the city and dept turned its back again.
This is purely a political move to appease the gang members. Imagine, an officer who experiences what could probably be the most traumatic event of his career, and then he is told he did something wrong so they are going to strip him of his star after some worthless POS tried to kill him...... The supe just piled another traumatic incident upon the first traumatic incident.

(as in Erectile Dysfunction) Johnson, AKA Edville Chamberlain Johnson (just like Neville Chamberlain), appeases the "protesters" (people who are friends with gang members, convicted felons, and criminals) by stripping police officers before the investigation is even concluded. This nitpicking over details, trying to find fault with the officers instead of focusing on the big picture, is like writing a parking ticket to a CFD fire truck double parked next to a fire hydrant at a 5-alarm fire. Why not tell the story like it is? Instead of focusing on the firing into a vehicle when the vehicle is the only weapon used against the officer, why not focus on the dead guy, who is a known gang member career criminal, with a violent criminal history, who was driving a stolen car taken by a ring of car thieves targeting white people in the outlying suburbs? The dead guy's graduation photo is not a true representation of who he is; his social media accounts showing him pointing a gun at the camera, flashing gang signs, smoking illegal substances, is a more true representation of who this person is. The dead guy is one of the gang members who are driving crime through the roof in this city.
The superintendent's appeasement policy will backfire in 2016 just as it did in 1938 when Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement with Hitler failed.
Only here the police and law-abiding citizens of Chicago will be the ones to suffer.

Mccarthy started a huge problem with stop cards. Now we have ISR. McCarthy did not believe in any type of training and kept young officers glued to boxes. He left us a huge problem. Now crime fighting, proactivity has stopped. Johnson took it one step further and is letting the Fake community leaders dictate policy. I believe he does not have a choice since Rahm has complete control over every aspect of the CPD. I was curious if Rahm forces Johnson to meet with Lemon Reccord? Anyways the DOJ is taking over and soon they will implement a new policy and new orders. They are very thorough and realize the incompetence of the CPD leadership.

Here's what sucks about the whole thing. The Jag was stolen because the homeowner left one car on the driveway unlocked. They used the garage door opener to gain access to the garage, then stole the Jag because the keys were left in the car. Sorry you got jammed up in this whole mess because our residents don't know how to lock their stuff up. All the way up to the suburbs we are staying fetal. Had a car run from me the other day on a felony. Lights stayed on for 3 seconds, shut them off and made a U turn. Not worth it anymore.

If someone is chasing a stolen car, most definitely violating department policy, don't go help them. They're choosing to put their lives and careers and freedom in jeopardy. It's not your job to bail out the morons who don't get it. Let them hang themselves. These officers didn't get "thrown into a shit storm," they drove themselves into a shit storm and chose to put themselves in jeopardy. I wish them the best of luck, but they have no one to blame but themselves.
