Shooting - Englewood

  • A man was shot by a Chicago Police officer Thursday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Paramedics were called at 6:55 p.m. to the scene of the shooting in the 6700 block of South May, and the wounded man was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Nothing else yet.

UPDATE: Another shooting - this one in 003:
  • ...officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress in the 6700 block of South May around 7 p.m., according to the Chicago Police Department. Officers observed a suspect with a gun running through a gangway and ordered him to drop the weapon. When he did not, officers opened fire, striking the suspect, police said.

He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition; a weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
UPDATE: The offender in South Shore (003) has passed on. The Tribune is already quoting all the Ivy League legal eagles as to what went down.

Minute's silence remembering fallen police officers - led by their grieving relatives - is interrupted by chants of 'Black Lives Matter' at the DNC

* Dallas Sheriff Lupe Valdez was paying tribute to cops killed in line of duty
* She then asked for a moment of quiet reflection from the delegates
* However, some were heard shouting the controversial slogan
* Valdez ignored the jeers and then introduced families of murdered officers

OT. I watched the speeches of the families of 3 Police Officers, including the wife of our own, Thor Sodeberg. I highly doubt they were invited by Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. I will say that I know neither had any words of comfort for these people who lost their family members who made the ultimate sacrifice to Serve and Protect everyone. I am retired, but I know no matter how pissed off I was at the city, our bosses and the citizens who showed pure hatred at us, I never drove by someone who needed help. I believe not just PO's on CPD, but all across the country feel the hatred and just believe every PO should just lay down and quit giving a shit. I am not saying get in the car and go balls out to stop and/or arrest everyone. What I ask is remember why we all came on this job, to help people and make a change, if just a baby step. When I was told I was crazy for doing this job, I agreed. Who in their right mind would ever want to be the police. But for all you crazy people, there are those who thank God that you did take this job. We are the THIN BLUE LINE. St. Michael the archangel is our guardian. He is the warrior looking over the police, who are the last line between good and evil. The police are being attacked mentally and physically every day. But I know it is a small minority that is against us. Just know there are a large majority who are thankful to see you on the street than those against you. Battles have been lost by police, but we are a sea of blue across this country. The war will be won by us. No matter what, hold your head high. Each of you know that you have made a difference and helped those who could not fight off their attackers. We are the voice for those who cannot survive without us. BE PROUD brothers and sisters.

How many coppers are on 30 day administrative leave? This number will only grow. We need these coppers on the street. Shorten the leave or start disbanding half of tact to the watches.....and while your at it, you can disband that bearded narcotics crew to the watches too.

We are always in a rap....the radio communications order says tact is to handle radio assignments until the rap is cleared. Supervisors step up and supervise. The citizens have a right to police service and a lot of the calls we respond to already have a lot of time on them.

Nothing against tact, however, a large portion of our watch was moved to tact for a purpose that still befuddles me. Is is just me? Am I confused? If we are less proactive today, why is more tactical units needed? Why does the watch have to be depleted? Couldn't we just send recruits straight from the academy to tact? Most recruits wind up on tact anyways without even pushing a beat car. They are training recruits in the academy to request a paper car.....

The DNC owed to pressure to put them up there as props. They had no intention of doing it until they saw how everyone was reacting to putting the criminals up there.

I am an Independent voter, but this DNC will make it almost impossible for me to give a Democrat a fair shake again. I cannot see ever voting for any Democrat with the ear that I would give this party any power. They are so far off the reservation now, I don't see it coming back in my lifetime.

I have to wonder....why.

Why is anyone doing traffic stops and blue lighting a street robbery in the ghetto?
(If not known already, 95% of these cases go in the bin, even more if they ever get to 26/Cal)

Your Mayor, et al, have just appointed a Special Proscetutor to look into all the rest of the Laquan involved officers, detectives and supervisors. This is called Heat Hunting my friends, not investigating but prosecution.

Get your ears cleaned out already, then take a break and Slow down.

No Traffic Stops - No ISR's - No Blue Light Specials.

The 14th District has THREE tactical teams and ONE robbery team. That is FOUR teams of up to 8 bodies not answering calls and being fetal. The third and first watch are currently running up to FIVE, yes FIVE beat cars down. I have never in my career seen anything like this. The whole district has only eight beat cars and a wagon rolling during the afternoon and night watch.

Last Saturday/Sunday 012 1st Watch had 4 of 15 beat cars down. And where in that huge district weren't they up? In the neighborhoods with new houses that sell for $1M and up -- 1213, 1214 and 1221 -- and where robberies, burglaries and shootings are on the rise.

Get these idiots off tact mission or whatever the flavor of the mouth is. 2-3 year wonders should be pushing a beat car. The watches are barely staying a float with low man power.

I have never stopped thinking like this. Last week when everyone was jumping with joy with not volunteering to work Labor Day weekend, I talked about why I'm working that weekend. Not necessarily for the money-- which is a slim reason why-- but because I like being the police. Have never really confided this to anyone, but I hate hearing about children getting shot. That's the real reason why I'm planning to work. I mean, everyone who has rushed to that call of course hates it, but for some reason it really gets to me. If my simple presence prevents it, then why not? I'm Not worried about being called a "scab" or "traitor" when I'm just being the fucking police. Now, I'm not stupid, I understand the climate we're working in nowadays and I'm not out in the streets playing super cop anything like that. but I will continue to Do the very thing I applied to this job for in the first place.
