Another Exam
- Chicago will hold another police entrance exam in April — and reduce the “pre-employment process” by up to two months — to maintain a continuous pipeline of candidates needed to bolster the police force by 970 officers over the next two years, aldermen were assured Monday.
The opening day of City Council budget hearings focused heavily on Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s ability to deliver his promised police hiring surge.
Year One of the two-year surge calls for the city to fill 495 police vacancies, keep pace with rising retirements and still hire enough police officers in 2017 to add 250 patrol officers, 37 sergeants, 50 lieutenants, 92 field training officers and 100 detectives to raise an abysmal clearance rate for homicides and shootings.
Once again, Fran reverts to form, parroting City Hall numbers and not connecting the obvious dots:
- The City has already burned through the last hiring list.
They didn't literally "burn" through it. They merely disqualified many with military backgrounds, caused copd family members to fail the Psych portion of the process, denied hundreds, if not thousands, a second chance at the POWER test, not to mention the drug and background failures that typically knock out nearly a quarter of the list.
And then there's the other quarter or third of the list who look at the headlines, read about what's happening across the country, see the crime numbers rising and the number of decent neighborhoods declining, test the wind and say to themselves, "The Hell with this crap." And then they never show up or answer the follow-up calls. It's not limited to Chicago - it's nationwide as we've posted many times.

Rejected because of bad credit stemming from 10 years ago which she had straightened out. Here we have a black women, who's college educated never been arrested and we reject her for this. Give me a break. Who ever rejected her should be reevaluated. Hope they don't check all of our credit.

Tips to get through the hiring process for aspiring police lurkers here on SCC...
- Do NOT use any police as personal references. None. Don't. Nobody.
- If you lie on the poly and the poly-person grills you on a "hot answer" stick to it don't change your story.
Don't add to it. Less is More.
- Disclose everything. Even that thing you had expunged 7 years ago. Disclose it.
- No. You don't like the movie Alice in Wonderland and you don't ever feel sad . Be very
Liberal on the 1000 question psych exam.
- No. You never ever ever ever tried any drug or ever even thought about it. Ever. Never. None.
- No. You don't drink. Ever. Never tried it. You want nothing to do with it. Not even on ocassions.
- If you ever been fired from a job then don't disclose that job. (Two of my friends were disqualified
for being fried from previous jobs as far as 10 years prior for trivial non criminal reasons.) Never admit
to ever being fired from any job.
- Keep your head down, mouth shut, nose clean and deactivate all social media. Yes! They scan your
social media so all those Pro Police, Pro NRA, Pro Trump and Pro Right Wing posts will get you disqualified.
Don't believe me? Fine. Watch. Keep your Facebook and keep posting Pro Trump and Pro Blue Lives Matter
stuff. Watch what happens when you can't explain why you were disqualified.

In this new round of hiring, potentially "good" canditates will be issued a "cpd mentor". Said mentor will sit with the candidate through written portions of the hiring process and "suggest" the correct answers. Said mentor will also take the power test as a "team" splitting portions of the test between mento and canditate so as not to tire the candidate. Finally said mentor would have canditate empty there bladder and mentors urine would replace canditates for freshness reasons. And walla the new CPD recruit the aldermen and Rham want.
My son was disqualified via a bullshit incomplete psych test,even after he got an A in his college psych test, he went to a suburb and it quite content, good pay, good bosses, good equipment etc.

Terry Hilliard's company does the background and they are a bunch of ass hat retirees who think they are investigators. They beg the potential recruits too bring in tons of document and then they lose them. Heaven forbid you have a Marine bulldog tat!
And if you say your uncle works in a district you are given a speech to make sure that uncle does not reach out to find out what these investigator are doing.

I live up in God's country, 016.
On my block we are pretty open about who works for CPD, CFD, STREETS, CDOT.
After hearing about new CPD entrance test this weekend. I took an informal survey
of the six young guys living with parents on my block. While raking leaves sunday and monday.
I already knew that all six had taken last test for CPD. As of yesterday none of these young guys
were hired by CPD. They all had passed the power tests and received letters to prove it all,
but no job offers.
It is my belief the list is being restarted due to the plain fact only male whites are left on the list.
All of the six on my block have college and are working full time jobs, but with family members
who already work for city. They have been discriminated against.
This last test was only one year ago. There is no way they burned through it.
My son graduated 7th in private high school so he loses points
graduated 25th out of 380 U of I in mathematics.
Works for major bank in Illinois doing loans.

When you all get around the race issue, it will go away. Race should have nothing to do with anything. Strip it from the questions for any job, public aid application or any other admission form. It only serves to divide us.
There are laws to enforce equality. Use them if you are discriminated against. Politicians use statistics gathered from these questions for their own ends. It is time to get rid of this ammunition used by these hucksters. Change your politicians while you are at it.

I wish Illinois were a Right To Work state so there would be no maximum age for recruits. I'm 63 and all I want to do is be a uniformed patrol officer & walk a beat. Call me crazy but the truth is I've lived a full and good life & am healthy and strong, I'd like to be in the game. Truth is if I were to be taken out it wouldn't be nearly as tragic compared to a young person with a young family. Not to sound like an A-hole, but I could crush your power test and run faster than 90% of your young recruits. Moreover, I've had my ass kicked more times than any of my kids - not that I'm a tough guy or anything but that's just the way we grew up back in the day. God Bless all of you.

Credit is part of the psychological. People in debt do desperate things. The department like many others around the country won't take a chance on a potential credit risk. Submit a resume to a unit and a credit check will be run on you. Sorry your argument is weak. NEXT!

Look to see what the budget is for dicks. Google city budget, dept 050(i think) add it up. Go too seniority roster and run it for dick title code. The difference is the shortage. Same goes for sgt.s, lt.s , etc. i would do it, but i dont care.

Discipline, commitment, loyalty, ability to work with others in the hardest, most dangerous circumstances, the qualities of leadership, a proven track record of advancement and achievement, and skill at arms -- all these things were once qualities sought out by police departments.
No more, it seems -- perhaps a degree in "social work" will get you into a spot where you can sit and "review" all the "Big Data" coming in over the sensor networks.
Reminds me of a scene in a TV piece on video surveillance in England. About 15 white shirts in a hushed, dimly-lit "command center," issuing commands over remote loudspeakers out in the town for someone to pick up the empty soda can he just tossed in the street, and "coordinating response" to a drunked-up nine-year old kid scratching something up with a screwdriver...
Tired old guy in the scuffed shoes with the stick and the .38 used to keep that stuff out of everyone's hair with just a hard look -- back in the days when dics with their cigars and camel-hair coats would actually go on an apartment-building spat if they happened to be nearby -- ONCE. It would be real quiet there afterwards, and the wrong side of it would move out on their own by middle of next week...

If some young person can't pass a POWER test to get on this job, they have NO BUSINESS AT ALL coming on. I saw plenty of "second" chance people in the academy and they were "second" chance people for every POWER test and most every other element.
The daily uniform should not consist of shitty blue sweats.
On a positive note. The first deputy came in to 11 yesterday and after hearing we were having computer issues, IT Tech was out same day.Who knows if they will get fixed but he kept his word that he would address the issue, seemed like a decent guy.

You have no idea how the department has lowered the standards in the academy. Chicago does not have a drop out rate. In LAPD, around 20% of recruits in the academy flunk out before graduation. Most major cities have a drop out rate of recruits during training except Chicago. No one fails the academy. No standards, no discipline and no leadership. Now they want to make the academy a "factory" to turn out high numbers of recruits? OMG

The October Academy class has been canceled.
The 16-5 class was supposed to start 31 October and has been canceled because of lack of funding.
This city is FUCKED!
Back in the day good yr 1971 police tests 20000k took. It 3100 passed made the list,the city hired1000,the. 1500club was made m/2s we lost thanks to bilandic, Marshall said hire them I don't care happily retired 30yr history always repeats.
My son was DQ'ed for the psych portion (CPD uncles) even though he has a degree in psychology. For me it was a godsend because he quickly got hired at a surrounding city for more money and less drama. Even if his uncles call him "second string" I sleep a lot better at night. And did I mention more money?
What about the fact that they disqualify former military and police family members. Disqualify some of your best candidates it's a new world "the inmates are running the asylum." It's not to late to vote the Democrats out.

On a positive note. The first deputy came in to 11 yesterday and after hearing we were having computer issues, IT Tech was out same day.Who knows if they will get fixed but he kept his word that he would address the issue, seemed like a decent guy.

Here's an unbelievable CPD rejection. F/1/29 disqualified after passing poly, psyche, drug and power test. College graduate and no arrests. Rejected because of bad credit stemming from 10 years ago which she had straightened out. Here we have a black women, who's college educated never been arrested and we reject her for this. Give me a break. Who ever rejected her should be reevaluated. Hope they don't check all of our credit.

Most car insurance companies check your credit and charge you more for insurance premiums if your score is low.
As for this applicant, her score should be more than repaired by now, so something's missing from this story.

On my block we are pretty open about who works for CPD, CFD, STREETS, CDOT.
After hearing about new CPD entrance test this weekend. I took an informal survey
of the six young guys living with parents on my block. While raking leaves sunday and monday.
I already knew that all six had taken last test for CPD. As of yesterday none of these young guys
were hired by CPD. They all had passed the power tests and received letters to prove it all,
but no job offers.
It is my belief the list is being restarted due to the plain fact only male whites are left on the list.
All of the six on my block have college and are working full time jobs, but with family members
who already work for city. They have been discriminated against.
This last test was only one year ago. There is no way they burned through it.

This job is so backwards, Tracy Ladner fucked up Human Resources so bad, was flunk g coppers kids with no appeal process, now they allow for an appeal. This department has been so backwards for years. A group failed by Ladner hired Dan Herbert who did nothing but blow the case because he was not prepared due to being wrapped up with VanDyke case. Hey Dan, refile that case and give these kids a chance.
They also both know they're short timers.
Rahm's chances of getting elected again are slim to none and Eddie -the Axe Man is living on borrowed time. If Eddie wasn't black he'd have been bounced awhile ago.

No one sees anything wrong with a city that puts people in jobs based on the color of their skin? I thought we cleared that all up. I guess not.
I personally know a lad who took the cpd test a few years ago and after he was put into a lottery he fell below 5000. Laughable....He had original passed all portions of the exam with high marks....college degree,(requirement)clean backround, parents and family members of cpd. He definitely was discriminated against being a white male and because he came from a cpd family. I couldn't believe that they finally reached down to his number...guess all the other candidates before him flunked out...drugs, backround & etc. What a waste of everyone's time when they must try to hire inept people for this job.

This got me curious and I looked into my old police files.
My acceptance letter said There was no guarantee of hiring but that I had scored 95.+ on the test [did not say where that put me in list order] and that over THIRTEEN THOUSAND had also taken the test.

I would like to poll the audience on this Question, I recently took the last Police Exam in April/2016 I received my passing "result" with a Lottery Number high in the 7k's out of 9k distributed to Applicants who passed. Would it be "beneficial" to retake the next Police Exam in "hopes of getting a better number"? The City announced, from the April/2016 Police Exam they were only taking the individuals who had Lottery Numbers from 1-1500. Obviously, based on that alone seems none of the (April/2016) Applicants with Lottery Numbers higher than 1500 have a chance of proceeding further in the process. Roll of the Dice :/

Very poor IT Dept. when it requires the 1st Dep. calling to get the computers repaired.
Oh and BTW. they are still not repaired as of 2nd watch today.

I took the test 3/16. My lotto number is in the 8000's and I have yet to be called. The list they are referring to was the prior test in 2013ish that has been exhausted.
The standards have gotten very low indeed. Look at our command staff. This Department is an embarrassment. By the way, it seems they are still letting people with dangerous mental and medical disabilities on the job.
And can someone verify if PPO's with Tourette's Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy are currently on the street in the Northside districts?! Hell...half of this department acts like it has Narcolepsy!
Anyone taking the job without a heavy phone call has ZERO idea what they are getting into.....
The 2013 list isn't exhausted yet there's applicants still in the process from the 2013 test

the lottery # stuff is new. Now you can get some super low moron score and then you are all equal and they can pick and choose the races. It used to be you got a "well qualified" "qualified" or "not qualified" THe "well qualified" had a great chance of being hired.

I heard a rumor that only the top 1500 people from the 2016 test will be processed is this true.

That's not true about only 1500, every candidate will get there invite to the initial power test at some point. There's a rumor that bye April next Year Cpd wants to have that list exhausted which that can mean that every candidate on that list has been giving that opportunity to go take that first steps of the process.
There's still candidates in the 2013 process waiting for a decision.
