Not A Hate Crime?
- A video of a Chicago activist removing a Trump sign has generated thousands of views and prompted police in one suburb to issue a statement explaining why they did not charge him with sign theft.
Jedidiah Brown posted a video on Facebook on Oct. 18 showing him removing the large sign from an unspecified location and placing it in the back of his car.
"I think this it is my duty as a citizen of the United States of America," Brown says to the camera as he pulls his car over and walks toward the Trump-Pence sign. "I'm clearly in a predominantly white area because that would never roll on the South Side of Chicago."

(a) A person commits hate crime when, by reason of the actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or national origin of another individual or group of individuals, regardless of the existence of any other motivating factor or factors, he commits assault, battery, aggravated assault, misdemeanor theft, criminal trespass to residence, misdemeanor criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to vehicle, criminal trespass to real property, mob action, disorderly conduct, harassment by telephone, or harassment through electronic communications...
Well, the Tribune has the video up. We're sure it's available to the Northfield Police Department, as well as the State's Attorney. The perpetrator posted it on his social media site.

I can see nothing but black on the video, but if he was removing trash from the public way I don't see the problem. In fact, the person who put it there would have been doing it illegally.

Where I live on the north side a neighbor keeps posting on a neighborhood blog that for the fourth time now his Trump sign was stolen off his front lawn. He keeps replacing it immediately. Many neighbors comment that he is a terrible person to support Trump in the first place. Once again you can say or support anyone you want as long as they're andemocrat. This country is going to shit quickly folks. And those in charge are adding fuel to the fire. You may not like Trump or things he has said and done but if you think Hilary Clinton has anything but her own self interest and that of the people who have protected her and Bill for the past thirty years then you are sadly mistaken. They are going to spend and giveaway the store to a point that and middle class family may as well quit their kids and jump on board. College tuition free if you make less then $125 household income per year. I would say that's at least 85% of police families if not more. So why the get free tuition you and me are paying $20k and up a year for tuition. That's just one example. We can all see insurance is going to skyrocket. So between educating our children and paying insurance, god forbid you should get sick or need surgery, there is barely enough left over to pay a mortgage and drive a car. Guess what though they're housing is free or subsidized and now want to live in "nice" neighborhoods not the south and west side. So when your neighbor forecloses because he can't keep up they're going to put section eight in those houses and the people who live there will go to the same schools as your kids, same hospitals as you, not work and pay nothing for any of it while you and your wife work 40+ hours a week to pay the bills. Think I'm crazy? It's happening already folks. Pay attention middle class have no choice but to vote for Trump or there will be no middle class in 8 years.
All he said was he's in a white neighborhood. He didn't say he's taking the sign because those who placed the sign are white (which, although presumed true in Northfield, cannot be proven) or hates Trump because he's white. He said you wouldn't see a Trump sign in a black neighborhood. Which also shows his stupidity, because I have plenty of black colleagues who support Trump.
Sorry, it's a real stretch to say it's a hate crime.

Political signs can be posted on the public way and it's illegal to remove them before the election.
I don't agree with this, btw, but it's the law.
