- Chicago Ald. Pat Dowell was so concerned about railyard gun heists that last year she wanted to hold a public hearing to question railway representatives.
But she tells the 2 Investigators the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and railyard giant Norfolk Southern “strongly encouraged” her not to go public for fear she would expose serious security deficiencies.
Dowell held off. Now, it’s happened again.
In the latest incident, a half-dozen semi-automatic rifles and 27 handguns were reportedly stolen from a rail car near 77th and Avalon, the 2 Investigators have confirmed.
Gee....the BATFE.
Wasn't there some sort of scandal about 7 years ago in the supposedly "scandal-free" Obama administration where a shitload of guns "walked" across the border and ended up slaughtering hundreds of Mexican citizens along with American law enforcement officers?
Now a sitting aldercreature, whose community is being destroyed by guns, lets the BATFE sit on "security deficiencies" so that even more guns get stolen and sold on the streets of Chicago?
And Rahm says guns are the problem? How about railyard security is the problem along with aldercreatures who let a federal agency ignore security concerns in furtherance of a political agenda that costs dozens, maybe hundreds of people their lives.

77th and Avalon. Hey Feds, from what I hear the gyms are always taken and stored in a legit house at 81st and Avalon however I'm way too fetal to care about that anymore. That's the info I got about it all but I'm in no mood these days to pursue it to attempt to write a warrant for it, my body can gets in the way of me caring anymore along with the media, unlock and city attorneys.

Nine times out of ten when they score a big hit on a rail car with guns it's because someone on the inside tipped off their people as to which rail car had the guns in it. Rail workers and rail police have manifests with corresponding rail car numbers and what they are carrying. In any case, please PLEASE be careful. Just sitting in the squad car in other cities has become deadly. Stay safe.

What the gun manufacturers should do is to ship those weapons in containers marked, "WORK CLOTHES".
When the military ships certain weapons via common carrier they do it in separate components. Even shoe manufacturers send large shipments this way; half are left shoes and the next shipment are the right shoes.

I don't know about Chicago specifically, but industry wide railroad special agents are few and far between. The few ones in San Antonio, for instance, cover an area hundreds of miles long.

RR special agents are under staffed. In Chicago we more or less notify them but in a real emergency we call on the CPD. Rail workers appreciate your presence.

I really don't know if things have changed, but it was a federal regulation that rail cars and semi-trucks that transport firearms have to be labeled as such. If this is still the case then you can readily see how easy it is for the thieves to find the right container. I worked security at a freight company some years ago and tghe weapons were clearly marked as well as ammunition containers as " hazardous materials " " firearms" " ammunition".
Several years back another box car with guns was hit and they turned up recovered in arrests unrelated to initial break in. The cases were closed without any followup interviews an no cross linking of any of the arrests. The Chief of Dicks told me face to face just push the paper.
You can get your ass inflamed about the border shit and Obama but that has little relevance to what is under your nose here or what may be pointed at your head.
I never saw big shot gang crimes investigators names on any of the follow up paper even though they worked with ATF teams selling guns or buying them from the thieves.

Rail yards are in ghettos (where most police are assigned), logistics keeps the boxcars there until the rest of the line can be put together and efficiently movedout, the window of opportunity changes quickly, so getting lucky looking for a couple boxes inside a huge and certain boxcar is very slight, unless you have a friend in the factory sifting through bills of lading tracking the merchandise. Hiring low life rotten m-fers will do this.
Rather than ship as point-to-point, cheap ass companies simply rather write off losses. There's armed security following semi trailers loaded with iPhones, why not do the same for weapons ?

Read Trains magazine. Its out in the open. These cars and containers contain RFID chips. Any putz with a RFID chip reader can stand near the tracks or even "install" a remote reader and see exactly what is going on. It was a tiny article buried on page ten. If you have a railyard or tracks on your beat make friends with the RR cops. At the very least they can help you find some clean restrooms and a safe place to hide. Depending which railroad it is their agents could be covering an area the size of a few city blocks to covering calls in multiple states. While there are a few who shouldn't be in police work, most have prior municipal experience and are legit.
There is so much more to this story that will never be officially released, and the feds are just one part of the problem. If you believe everything an aldercreature says and what the MSM prints, you'll always be misinformed. Almost makes you think the alderman was asking the RR for something to stay quiet and when they wouldn't give in she called the press... When I worked for the city I once arrested an alderman's kid running stolen guns to his south side office. Highly unlikely it's an inside job! "Security Measures" have been beefed up dramatically over the last 10 Years. Cameras everywhere, here a Camera there a Camera. I've been gainfully employed for the last 17 years as a Railroad Employee and I disagree with whomever stated in the comment's that "Railroad Employees" have access to the "Manifests", that's not true at all. These "Manifests" are located and purposely positioned in the... (wait for it)...Yes, the back of every container or trailer unit. Anyone, illegally breaking the "bolt/seals" (which is a Federal Offense) on the back of such containers or trailer units can easily access these "Manifests" and the "Bill of Ladings". "Manifest's" contain all the necessary information related to each and every shipment. If a Thief is smart enough to "READ" then all they have to do is look at the paperwork to see what the entire unit contains. It's not Rocket Science to figure out or see a well known-manufacturers logo in print. Often times only names are visible. Examples, Solo Cup or Bic or McDonalds etc...
To touch base on security measures, mostly all Railroads hire Independent Contracted Security Companies to be that watchful eye in the rail yard facilities. The Railroad Police just cannot handle this type of day to day (Police Patrolling) of Rail Yards basically due to the fact that there are very few of them nowadays. And most certainly, the ones that are here most likely are far more busier with other things in the field. When an Individual breaks into these container units it truly is a Roll of the Dice for them. (Like a box of Chocolates) Just my 2 cents yada yada yada!
Lets not forget that the vast majority of people employed by the print and television media are not journalists. They are " readers" they read what is put in front of them by some writer who just is a, well, writer. Just as the opinion columnists in the papers they just are writers, they write their opinion on what interests them. They are not journalists which actually investigate and write a story with the facts. Don't trust them, don't talk to them.They are not your friend.
The neighborhoods are being destroyed by apathy and greed. The efforts to stop violence and other movements have done nothing to stop the violence and apathy, even the "if you see something, say something" movement has done nothing to get people to report crime or report witnessing a crime and the hoodlums continue to rob, rape and kill with no worry of prosecution.
