Video Thanks
- The Chicago Police Department on Wednesday released a tribute video thanking the many officers who worked to help Cubs fans celebrate the team's World Series win.
The more than 5-minute video thanks the "thousands of officers and partners who worked countless hours in front and behind the scenes to ensure America could celebrate our World Champion CUBS safely."
Amusingly, Special Ed appears in the video about 82 times. Rahm, a few dozen. Actual officers are filmed for, literally, tenths-of-seconds, as the Cubs buses rush by. There were a couple of personal thank yous from players and some of the crowd shots were interesting.
We know it's the thought that counts, and we were certainly thinking of the Cubs when were were laying out cash for our Gremlin. But it was sort of obvious the boys and girls at the Video Services were writing a love letter to the brass to save their spots in some future budget cutting move.

Please explain to the citizenry why the people who actually did the work do not appear very much. Why thank rahm and you short bus ed? We don't want to see those jags. It would be even better if those two did no more "good" deeds for our city.

Have not watched the whole video...saw snippets on the news. Worked the detail--from an operational view it was a case study in how NOT to run a large multi-day detail. Maybe the head fools should have a NIMS refresher on pre-planning, execution and exit strategy----or more bluntly - on everything.
Imagine seeing the video with new audio....the words of exhausted members without radios assigned to random spots without any one in charge knowing who was where (not even knowing which Lt was where with how many)....recklessly endangered by lack of crowd control tactics....did anyone outside the ballpark get a quick refresher in the gestures used to communicate in such situations---or how to identify the undercovers,,,,nope- but we wore pretty yellow vests which photograph well.

How about a "thank you" from the 1968 Democratic National Convention. There is certainly enough video and still photos available. I mean a lot of guys put in a lot of overtime, suffered a lot of cancelled days off, 12 hour shifts for two or more weeks, etc.

With all the negativity about the police here is a GOOD PIECE of NEWS, Saint Xavier University is doing something very nice for us. Saint Xavier has put a lot of people thorough the MBA program, and I am one of the program's graduates. They have have created a "First Responder" Scholarship (for Chicago Police and other first responders) who enroll in any of their Graduate Programs. This scholarship will be available to NEW applicants, starting for the Spring term which begins in January 2017. The scholarship is for 25% off tuition. This will make up for the cut in tuition in the last FOP contract. With the State Legislature in chaos and funds not being made available to Colleges and Universities I think this is a very nice gesture on the universities part. My understanding is there will be more news about the Scholarship in an upcoming FOP newsletter. At least someone appreciates us.

I'd like to believe the videographers had plenty of footage of the actual Beat Officer engaged in the spirit and displaying their best. Probably a lot of celebration and too many citizens cheerfully posing with the Officers. But like in the Mainstream Crooked Media, the camera guy gets the backlash for the executive policy.
It's obvious and for a while, the poisonous tactics of the Mainstream Crooked Media has carried over to the Video Services Section, but knowing who's the Merit Exempt that oversees the Unit, you can figure it out.

Maybe DOJ could audit the higher education of our command staff...

Are the members of the video section cops? Real cops with guns and cuffs and do they have to wear cameras or is the one they use good enough? Also where do you apply for that gig? How much clout do I need to have? My clout bank is empty so here's hoping at least one job in the department requires skill rather than suck. Come on now that is same degree as "Jerry Lewis" clown university, easy to get write a "life experience" paper and your a 4.0 student! They want the easy money no education just gimme the city money. they must of found out with the 25% less the city was going to pay more "students" were not going to attend hence get the 75% and give a diploma!

I was walking around Wrigley when the TV CPD showed up with Special Ed walking and talking with other merits. Carter seen walking behind fat face ed with a forced half smile and shaking his head periodically as the camera rolled on. many supervisors ran the other way as CPD TV live crew approached them.
