So it's looking for a very long (and profitable) year for tact, gang, sat and mission teams. Hope you guys and gals didn't have any weekend plans, like birthdays, baptisms, weddings, or just a night out this summer. We also heard and witnessed dozens of officers sitting around over the wee hours because there weren't any cars available for them to patrol.
We took it upon ourselves to call a few Area garages to see the availability of a pool car. Once the one guy answering the phone stopped laughing, he told us there hasn't been an available pool car citywide since mid-December.
So yet another brilliant effort from HQ falls flat due to chronic mismanagement and failure to actually prepare for a short-notice event.

Until then the POS are embolden to walk and drive with their guns waiting to find their intended target, knowing the police will not confront them.
And so Rahm dumps a shitload of OT thinking that bodies alone will solve his problem. Rahm's exacerbation of the McDonald incident has compounded police work in Chicago; thereby hobbling cops from effectively stopping the carnage.
It wouldn't be so bad if the POS just shot each other up, the city could really benefit from that, but there is collateral deaths and injuries. Collateral just not confined to the hood, which still is not acceptable, but now the expressways are not save to travel when the POS are out looking for their targets.

I think all 3rd watch officers should file a grievance. This was not an emergency. If there was snowmagedon or a riot,sure, hold the watch over on a Friday night, with an hour notice. There needs to be a reason why contractual rights were violated !

Pool cars were never an issue when the police actually ran, had control of the garages. Perhaps they weren't the best cars but they were always available. Fleet Management taking control of the police garages has been a failure!

on a scale of one to ten, how much do you in the CPD, serving 10yrs+, feel crime in Chicago would be reduced if Chicago was not a Sanctuary City and illegal aliens engaging in crime were deported?

Gang Enforcement definitely had RDO's cancelled this weekend.. In fact, a few teams had their RDO's cancelled which resulted in close to 20 extra guys. The problem is we only have so many cars... We could have 100 additional P.O.'s working but at the end of the day we are only putting out so many cars resulting in cars going out 3-4 deep. We barely have enough cars for day to day business. On a positive note, our mission area was so saturated with police you had a better chance finding special Ed's balls than a gangbanger.

It's both. They do welcome it - precisely so they can prove their racism claims. See, when city cops turn their backs on a mayor, it can happen two ways. It can happen on television like it did in New York or it can happen out in the field on the beats like it is happening in Chicago. Gee, maybe it is a sign that cops are sick of being set up to be called racist no matter what they do or don't do? Maybe cops are showing the world, despite media, what the statistics are used (by media) to hide.
The inner city "community" has to accept what it created for itself. It has to learn the hard lesson that it cannot have its cake and eat it too. Rahm and co have to finally accept that lesson too. Demand warrants fellas, and keep right on refusing to operate proactively without them! make THEM be responsible for the "data" and then the "studies" done and the "racism" produced by adding up how many warrants are issued for how many black people, white people and brown people.

2)Failure to keep up with the annual attrition, new hires versus retirees.
3)Police vehicle shortage and lack of pool cars so these vehicles are run into the ground before being downed because of the lack of replacement vehicles.
4)Entire promotional process treated as a political patronage system and offers the average police officer without any clout a limited chance for promotion.
5)Association with and pandering to the criminal element and anarchist.
6)Refusal to detain and process criminal illegal immigrants.
7)Partnership with the ACLU to engineer the most prohibitive stop report in the nation.
8)Promotion of supervisors that not only are totally inept to excel in these positions but never possessed the qualifications to be a police officer in the first place.
9) Vilification of the police officer and celebration of the criminal element voting block.
10)Constant attack on and reduction of benefits for active and retired officers.
