16,000?

  • Some 16,000 applicants are taking the police entrance exam at McCormick Place this weekend, the highest number of applicants Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson says he can ever remember seeing during his tenure with the department.
Ed must be suffering from dementia along with kidney disease - back in the 1990's there were 33,000 taking the exam - and we're pretty sure Ed was here. Hell, we were here, and we recall it easily.
  • This weekend's exam is the first step in the hiring process. Successful candidates will also undergo physical tests prior to being approved to join the Police Academy for training.

    After greeting about 8,000 CPD candidates Saturday, Johnson said it's a sign more members of the community want to be involved with all of the positives going on in the department. Another 8,000 applicants are taking the police entry exam Sunday.
Not to rain on the hiring parade, one has to look at past history to realize that:
  • nearly half will fail - unless they got the answers from Gene Williams (8,000 gone)
  • a quarter of the remaining will not answer the hiring letter (2,000 gone)
  • a third of the remaining will fail the POWER test or drug screen (2,000 gone)
  • a quarter of the remaining will turn it down (1,000 gone)
So maybe 3,000 candidates. These aren't numbers pulled out of thin air - these are numbers from Personnel, the Academy, people who keep in touch with us on a regular basis. And the damage of the past two years to the entire police profession is only now being realized.

This last paragraph irritated us:
  • The department has seen an in [sic - we assume they meant "increase"] applications over last year. And with a greater percentage reporting as a minority (73.4 percent), Johnson says the department is keeping its promise to hire more officers and increase transparency within the department.
This is probably not Special Ed's actual conclusion. It's just shitty sentence construction by the media. But it seems to imply that "increasing transparency" is only achievable by hiring minorities? Actually, it says it directly via grammatical butchery, so evidently, don't trust white cops is the rule of the day.

Off topic but the CPD marine unit lost one of their 31 foot vessels purchased with homeland security grants ! That's right everyone's favorite heroes the CFD made calls to somebody saying they needed a boat for 2 weeks of training and BOOM ,, here comes M-5 vessel with Chicago Fire Department decals all over our blue police boat! How the bosses on this fucked dept. let that happen is beyond reason!

I arrested one hopeful who was going to take the test on Sunday. Now he "has no car to get there, so [he] ain't goin." That's funny, I remember taking the bus to the test because it was important to me and I didn't have a car.

That's the kind of people who want to be the police and have been told that all of their prior arrests will be forgiven if they are the right color. I had to have a CLEAN slate when I was hired. I remember trying to expunge a traffic ticket so it wouldn't show, and wondering (when I found out I couldn't) and worrying whether that would prevent me from getting the job. A young man who had never been arrested, with a college degree (not gloating, just saying - I didn't have to take this job, I had other options. I wanted this job.)

It's a joke these days. And they wonder why there are some real fuck-ups on the job. Hey Chicago, YOU hired them. Still seem like a good idea to forgive "minor" crimes?

They will be lucky to find 300 people that have any business being a police officer in their 13,000 (alleged) pool of test takers.

Chicago police are looking for three men accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was walking early Saturday morning in the Albany Park neighborhood, officials said.

Police described the first suspect as black, 6 feet, 26 to 30 years old, weighing about 200 pounds, having a tattoo near his right eye that was possibly a dagger and wearing black jeans.

The second suspect, police said, is black, 30 to 40 years old, about 6-foot-2, weighing 170 to 200 pounds and wearing black sweatpants.

The third suspect, is a black, 26 to 30 years old, about 6-foot-2, weighing 170 to 200 pounds and wearing black pants.

On a post the other day someone had posted a comment about a confrontation between a po and a sgt. in 025 on afternoons. If this wasn't bad enough I then heard a disturbing incident with another sgt in that building. Apparently Sgt. B. Kane of Saturation North slapped a power bar out of the hand and mouth of a young po, because he walked in after B. Kane started roll call. He cursed out the po, saying that the po had time to get a power bar, but couldn't make his roll call on time. After this sample size why would a civilian want to test for this job? The po refused to pursue a cr number on this jagoff. Most of us with time would've had a report made out for battery, gotten a cr, and made sure a street deputy was notified. This kind of "leadership," fails on so many levels. Especially, those on this job. Brian, you're a pathetic tool. Take your rugby ball and go to bed. Anyone with similar stories please post.

A friend of mine who is a male AA college grad and former Marine received an email to report for the power test. He ignored it because he decided he didn't want the job and is already gainfully employed. He received another email a month later offering (begging) him to take the power test again and again he ignored it. He told me the main reason he doesn't want the job is being forced to live in the city.

From test to hiring is a 90% attrition rate. This is a fact. So, if there are 16,000 taking the test, there will only be 1,600 who wind up getting hired. The rest drop out for myriad reasons: fail the exam, don't show up for the POWER test, fail the POWER test, fail the medical, fail the background, etc.

Expect another test within a year.

And Ed is baffled by numbers.

The new "transparent" CPD will not require a power test or much education. Most applicants will simply mark an "X" next to their name.Barbara West will be sent to the home of each applicant that does not respond to the letter.
Lastly, Mayor Rahm, Jamal Greene and Cupich's "Blue Ribbon Committee" will personally choose the lucky winners that will form the backbone of the "New CPD"

Want transparency? Lets have a look-see at minimum standards in the 1980's, 1990's and today. Lets see how standards have dropped, costs have gone way up and the end product is a less qualified police officer trying to handle extremely stressful, demanding and dangerous situations.
Higher quality people (yeah, I know, I said a higher quality people) are needed with more education and higher moral standards and self control. But these people have seen how the leadership will not stand behind their people and so these "higher quality people" (damn, said it again) go in to other professions.
There are people that want to make a diifference and want to work at the police department and are perfectly capable of doing the job, but they are fewer and further between.
Just like standards at the police academny, the standards for leadership must go up. A lap dog in a leadership position will only take care of his master. The people below him are expendable.

8000 of the people who are taking the test are the same people that took it in 2016 and are only half way through the process from 2016. What a waste of taxpayer money. Rumor has it that "recruiters" were given money based on how many people they sign up. I will bet these "recruiters" put in numerous fictitious names to make money. I would love for some news reported to actually do an investigation on this. First they will need a full list of people that took the test in 2016 and again in 2017. This should eliminate half the list. Next, get a full list of who actually showed up and took the test. With this information they can do an investigation on the people that did not show up and I bet they find about 6000 fake names on the list. Further investigation might actually reveal which "churches" or "groups" obtained the fake names.

When the "community" have red flags for previous arrests and convictions that would've normally stopped ANYONE from being hired, the department will make exceptions for many of them. Remember, black politicians were calling for relaxed hiring standards, specifically in the area of criminal convictions, for "the community." So many of those that should and would have normally been weeded out will be hired. Can't wait to see the quality of officers greatly decrease. I wouldn't be surprised if HR bangs the phones of "community" no-shows and offers rides to/fm testing. This city is a fucking joke.

Correct. Ron Dorneker, who's a deputy district chief in charge of "Marine operations" for the CFD was once the Chicago police and applied for the marine unit but of course being a purely clout spot didn't make it.
Watch for theCPD marine unit to give up all dive operations in the city and given to the CFD.

Don't trust white people period is the rule of the day with the media and with progressives. When Trump was elected, the progressives wailed that the " uneducated white people" elected him. In the Tribune recently was a column by Dahleen Glanton ( yes that is her name), calling for a new face of the democratic party and to bring in more minorities and less white people. Then she wrote a column on gang violence and blamed everyone but the gang members for their predicament. There even was a mention from a white west side attorney that poverty is causing all of these shootings ( no mention of individual responsibility) and that being black and poor is somehow different from being white and poor and being poor and white, even from a single mom household, was easy. He even mentioned that 95% of the black males he encounters in his law office and church carry guns. Where do you go with these people and their positions? You certainly cannot fix stupid. The black and hispanic aldermen of Chicago have made it clear that they have the numbers now and they will make the decisions ( they actually held a press conference and said this). They implied that there is no room for white people in their world.

Also lots of youngsters who haven't even finished college were there. When they get done with their 4 year degree and realize that they can make more money elsewhere.... well what do you think they are going to do?

Lot's of pants hanging on the ass-crack westside test takers. Hope the hired "investigators" can weed those posing to infiltrate CPD for their gang. Some of these background investigations should probably be handled by sworn members with investigative experience... but who am I kidding.

The test went from over 120 questions in the past to just 80! 80 questions and 2.5 hours to complete them!! So basically if you can read and comprehend at a 5th grade level, run do some sit-ups, benchpress your weight... you are hired. Way to weed out stupid CPD!

Y'all snap about merit promotions pretty regularly. Wait until you get a load of what is really going on here. The BLM crowd has gone full blown infiltrator- and not just at the CPD. They have been recruiting youngster and keeping their records clean for year, right, for suitable positions to be played later on. A great example is in the gun purchasing and even gun storage department, ammo too, right? Likewise, state jobs, county jobs and city jobs too, right? They have for the most part left police departments off this list, but they are ready to go for the jugular.

The coming chaos will be twofold. First, and the most obvious, is for some protected status newbies to play the part of dirty cop that treats the "public" with endless disrespect, and the second, more nefarious episode will be the wrongdoer "busted" and then let off with slap on the wrist, making cops look like they get special treatment.

There is a lot more than narrative building here, a LOT more. Hey Experienced Coppers, be vewy vewy cawfw who you "take under your wing" to train and look out for. You are being set up not only by merit promos, but in "merit" hires as well.

Excuse me while I laugh at this. I was there yesterday and out of the so called 8,000 seats, I'd say about half showed up. Maybe less. It looked like more empty seats then bodies filling the seats. Whites were definitely the minority there. I counted the numbers in the section and for every 10 people you had 2 white dudes. Times are a changing. Maybe special Ed was hitting the bottle when he misspoke about the 16,000

As a minority (asian) I find this rationale of hiring is idiotic, discriminatory and insulting. Years ago I was proud to make it on the job because I thought I was hired for having a good education, good character and clean past history. The fact that they are pushing the hiring of minorities just for "diversity" makes me feel less proud of my accomplishments. Also if I were a white male and did not get hired in one of these next classes I would sue the damn city for discrimination.

You really gotta ask yourself, given the current anti-cop sentiment in the city, what kind of person would voluntarily put themselves in that position?

About 75% are on a power trip and hopefully will be weeded out. Of those left, about half haven't thought it through carefully. A couple thousand might be well-intentioned idealists. Half of those will regret their decision within 5 years.

With little seniority and a troubled pension fund to keep them around, what's the end result of the time and money invested up to that point?

On a post the other day someone had posted a comment about a confrontation between a po and a sgt. in 025 on afternoons. If this wasn't bad enough I then heard a disturbing incident with another sgt in that building. Apparently Sgt. B. Kane of Saturation North slapped a power bar out of the hand and mouth of a young po, because he walked in after B. Kane started roll call. He cursed out the po, saying that the po had time to get a power bar, but couldn't make his roll call on time. After this sample size why would a civilian want to test for this job? The po refused to pursue a cr number on this jagoff. Most of us with time would've had a report made out for battery, gotten a cr, and made sure a street deputy was notified. This kind of "leadership," fails on so many levels. Especially, those on this job. Brian, you're a pathetic tool. Take your rugby ball and go to bed. Anyone with similar stories please post.

Having a Family is normally a great thing, but she n this Organization as it exists presently, Chicago forces its Cops to be in a quasi indentured state. U have cameras, other cops(sadly)to watch out for, and a work environment that's run by Families that never miss when it comes to promotion.
Serve means something different in Chicago. It's more like obey, bitch, and Ull be able to maintain a Family.
They hire U when your most ignorant of how The City runs. If Ya want out U have a couple kids in Catholic schools or college that you don't know anymore.
Was it worth it? X will tell, but how many old timers are living in SROs?

Recently Lt. E.G in 007 participated in a similar situation for a PO who allegedly left some garbage in the squad car. The Lt. proceeds to verbally berate the PO in front of 3 Sgt.'s and several PO.'s where she sticks the garbage in the PO's face at which point 3 Sgt.'s initiated a CR # on her and produced several witness statements. Now I'm hearing she just got promoted? Wow!

So basically the city lost out on approximately $350,400 dollars worth of revenue by waiving the 30 buck application fee for minority applicants ? Those tests aren't cheap for the city to run. Otherwise we'd be testing for Dets and other exams more often. How many of those applicants will be given a pass for past criminal charges in this uneccesary attempt by this dept to diversify an already very diversified dept ? All for political theater. Way to make 'minority' officers feel as equal to their white Caucasian counterparts by you know..... Treating them unequally and different.

Seems maybe the dept could have used that money to maybe get us better mental health services seeing as our dept has some of highest suicide rates in the country and not lacking diversification.
