Looking for an old timer who worked the Humboldt Park riots:

A humble request for information that would be most helpful:
Know any old timers who remember the FALN bombings here in Chicago in 1976? I can’t wait to put a microphone in front of federally convicted FALN bomb maker, Oscar Lopez Rivera, today at his homecoming parade and street naming ceremony but I’m betting he will not be making any first time confessions. But I’m going to ask him anyway. The interview I would rather get is with a police officer, or a family member of someone injured in one of these bombings. Particularly the one outside of the very theater where Hamilton is now playing and whose star, Manuel Miranda has promised to play the leading role if his idol, Mr. Rivera, would like to attend the showing. It will take some hunting to track down the relatives, but I’m working on it. In the meantime, if you know anybody and could pass on a name or phone number I want to interview someone who can tell the real story. Forty years is a long time, so I could use the help finding a copper who might remember something and could share it.

A buddy of mine had a cousin named Nalon that worked the wagon back during the riots. He unfortunately committed suicide a few years ago. At his wake they had a picture of the burnt up paddy wagon on the board display of him throughout the years. Not sure if it was from that riot or a different one that occurred in Humbolt Park in the 1970s. He and his partner had to fire into an armed mob that was about to kill them. Young cops now have no idea how many brawls the cops had to get in back in the old eras.

Retired former boss and great guy, Dep Chief Tom Walton/ area 5 when he retired. popped a mutt to cause the riots on Division street in the park. Walton was then sent to the head of the Training division after this occurred. He was getting serious heat from what I remember. Old man Daley was the mayor. It added to the turmoil from what I recall. I think the member of this fine and old community was a banger with ties to FALN.
The FALN were well known at the time of the riots and until the early 90'. Slick Louie Gutierrez, was alleged, lol, to be a member of the FALN, and he got elected alderman in the early 80', and was very vocal in supporting this terrorist group.
Louie never caught an indictment and the word on the street........he was, use your imagination. Louie got big juice when Mayor Washington got elected. Harold kept him close, and Louie thought the late Mayor was his guy. Mayor Washington was no ones fool and made certain Louie did not pull shit off to trick bag him.
Everybody from these riots are long retired or passed away. Reverend Morales was a name on North avenue by the park, and Louie and him were tight. He hated the police and was also alleged to be involved heavy with the riots and allegedly to the FALN and held weapons for the bangers. The old Gang Specialists from Gangs North had great intel on all this.
The old man seen on TV had many a supporter at the street naming. There had to be some of the of the old bangers and FALN people there. They have to be all well over 60 years old. With the old man out and running his mouth off, FALN will be regrouping with the young supporters and they will be all fuck ups, and will cause too much heat on the FALN with their outward ways. The Humboldt Park fest this June will be a stage for the FALN, with the fest, the old members will be flying in from the East coast to pay homage to the old bomber.
The media guys will not have any problems getting info on this group and the riots. Many a retired guy of the old days view this blog daily and Louie and his old crew will be shitting a brick what these retired guys write on this blog.

Madelin, Try looking up the Rev. Slim Coleman, he might still have that make believe church on Division Street East of California. He was a news hit harboring a illegal at his church some time ago, Run his name on the web. He will pop up. For a bottle of wild Irish Rose and a saw buck, he will tell you anything. He was that trash Alderwoman, Helen Schiller' stooge from the old Lakeview/Broadway area, He and Louie were always tight and he has a lot of info if he still have a mind.
After a week, if the retired guys come out, and write on SCC, you will have all the info you need. Us old street rats of old have long memories. Another FYI, Walton stayed at the training division for quite awhile after shooting. The great Late Mayor Byrne really liked him. I think Washington when elected dumped Walton to a police district along with 25 other white bosses in 1984 or 1985.
One guy could help you, a Gang specialist Mike Cronin. Also Lt. Fred Boose, both were in all the civil unrest back then in the park. Both are walking books of knowledge and two of CPD' best. The P.R fest will be a massive event this year. I just might take a ride to the fest for a million laughs. There will be a lot of capping in the air when the mad bomber give his address to the crowds/murderer. Any reporter should use caution trying to interview the old prick bomber, He will be seen as a hero of the old cause. CPD will be told to stay away from any interaction with him, it might upset the community. The climate is like in Siberia being the police in this city now. Very still and quite cold.

To the poster at 0515 on 20May2017- One day when I worked 025, I was checking things on my beat when I saw a Toyota Camry parked on a street in Galewood. I ran the plate and a hit came back. It seems the owner of the car was a member of the FALN and was wanted by the FBI for questioning. I kept an eye on the car as best I could waiting for someone to get into it. It didn't happen while I was keeping an eye on it which had gone on for a week or two. One day I pulled into the parking lot in 025 and lo and behold I saw the same car parked in the lot. I thought that someone had arrested the owner and impounded the car. Turned out that the car was driven into lot and parked there by a family member of the owner of the car who was a young patrolman in 025 at the time. He is that same Sgt.that was standing on the stage with Oscar Lopez Rivera the other day .
Just phone in a reading of a memo written by someone you know.....

12 Tact had the corner of Division and California on the midnight shift after most of the fun was over. We had to make sure the gangs were not filling up any gas cans from the gas station. The gangs were still looting the liquor stores but we were told to hold our post and let them do what they wanted. The news stations were roaming all over the area they must still have footage of all that.

I met him about 10 plus years ago very briefly, one of the guys I was with told me his story after meeting him. Seemed like tough times back then we got it a lot easier in some senses now. For some reason that story of him and the guys he was with has always stuck with me. I didn't hear about his passing may he finally be at peace.

sure they like to burn we had one pr we called Pete the burner...between the pr burning for fun or vengeance we had the real estate burning through the east end of Shakespeare and Wood street. No I am not kidding. I made the proper notifications but apparently nothing was done. I remember this kid wanting to be on Tac real bad. The Commander at the time (MM) said no way,not as long as he was Commander. Alderman Suarez who liked to think he was the Commander of 025 pushed hard to get him on Tac but Commander MM wouldn't wounldn't do it. The day after Commander MM left for greener pastures, he went to Tac.
This FALN Sgt. is quite possibly the stupidest guy I have met on this job. Completely incompetent and self serving. Thank God he begged his way out of patrol. Hopefullly he will do less damage where he's at.
