Manpower "Surge"
Not really a surge, but rather Rahm throwing money at an undermanned police department:
- Chicago streets will have an extra 1,300 cops on patrol each day of the Memorial Day weekend, as the Chicago Police Department beefs up normal police presence with special units, traffic enforcement and more officers in the city’s parks and beaches, officials said Friday.
The stepped-up patrols are an increase even from the number of officers deployed last year, when CPD put an extra 880 officers each day of the long weekend only to see six people killed and 63 shot from Friday evening through early Tuesday. As with most holidays in the summer months, CPD officials solicited volunteers to cover extra shifts over the weekend and canceled time off to ramp up staffing.
“CPD will not tolerate violent behavior, and if you choose to put others in danger by your actions, you will feel the full weight of CPD and our partners in law enforcement,” Supt. Eddie Johnson said, reading from a prepared address to reports at police headquarters Friday.
And rest assured, if you misbehave, the CPD will yell, "Stop!" in a loud voice. And if you continue to misbehave, CPD will yell, "STOP!" even louder.

Had love it when Rahm and Supt. Eddie made a joint appearance at a black church to showcase the "manpower surge."
They could have used some type of a surge to boost the attendance at their media opportunity happening. The church was largely vacant. The entire assembled audience numbered about twenty.
The television news cameras tried to avoid showing that the church was almost completely empty.
Will Rahm cut his police detail to his family for the good of the citizens of Chicago? I must have been dreaming to think that. Everyone else, go fish.
Question union rep couldn't answer. How is it that you can take DOH if your scheduled to work holiday but get your RDO cancelled if your scheduled to be off. Since you can't drop a slip for your RDO. Anyone have an answer to that? Our rep looked very confused when asked that question.

Not sure if you saw the roundup the other day- but a complex 2+ year QUALITY investigation culminated in a lot of guns and dope recovered, and a lot of arrests- most of which likely to see federal time.
Just because some people aren't seen beating the bushes every day coming in with heads doesn't mean they don't still have a role and do work.

And also just a heads up to the coppers living in 008- I heard that quite a few arrestees from the roundup that got scooped up maintained addresses in Garfield Ridge. Something to think about........

This is not a strategy, this is Insanity! Even with the restrictions currently imposed upon Chicago Police, by the ACLU, it is realized that a physical police presence will in fact deter some forms of criminal activity. So after spending tens of millions of dollars, and millions more on Gold Braid Pensions, produced by the old CAPS program, which claimed that mere police presence was not enough.( Remember the "A" stood for Alternative and the "S" stood for strategies.) We are back to the original strategy of Saturation! In essence we are unofficially, undoing what McCarthy, Rahm and Roundtree did, when they disbanded City-wide Units! Only this time the "New", Old strategy, will be to saturate but not stop or pursue the offenders/suspects. The New Mobile Strike Force will be part-time and forbidden to "Strike". And all of this puts the public and officers at greater risk. But on the positive side, homicides are down and people are fleeing the City. Hopefully, many of those fleeing will take their "Play" criminal relatives with them. Baby "G"

Volunteers? More like forced us to work our day off
Cancelling rdo's every single holiday during the summer, has been the departments m.o. ....basically if you have family events during the nice weather, and on a weekend , expect the city to screw you out of your DAY OFF.... yes the dept pays you , but once again I miss events scheduled months before. The city not hiring and providing manpower is not the fault of the beat cop. Fetal is an understatement as to my level of motivation.
You will feel the full weight of CPD, until Kimesha bonds the felons out the next day.

If you are talking about having the holiday RDO on Monday canceled, then you get 20 hours of comptime and 4 hours of whatever you want. It's in all of our contracts.
Where are they going to get the working cars, functioning radios and other equipment?
This department has had so much money stolen out of its budget, it can't even cover the day to day jobs.

If true you're being lied to. You can take time or money. It's your choice per contract. I took the pay yesterday and today and so did everyone else in my district.

If true you're being lied to. You can take time or money. It's your choice per contract. I took the pay yesterday and today and so did everyone else in my district.
26May17 we were told we could not check the money box for that rdo being canceled and forced to work. I chose the money box for yesterday.

The inside po's are scheduled to work the holiday, but request DOH on Monday the holiday giving them a 3 day weekend. Works for them but the other po's who are days off get their DO cancelled doesn't make any sense

6 people have their day off cancelled. 4. People volunteer to work their day off..... total of 10 extra bodies. But 6 other people are granted time due to take the same day off? Wouldn't they deny the use of elective time before cancelling an rdo?

Agreed. Legitimate complaints of redo cancelled and cu given should be addressed by union but won't be. Detailing also should be addressed, now the dept doesn't have to honor bids, seniority or even opening up the transfers. All they do is detail. Low seniority bids or is on midnights, they just detail you to days. No transfers to unit because everyone is detailed. What happened to the 90 detail? Seniority is being ignored

the simple answer is the %15 agreement the city has with the union.
You should be bitching about why the to FOP Sunday to Saturday exception for the 7 straight work days, only time and half on holidays instead of double time(like most unions), only 8 hour BFDs, furlough hours instead of days, etc.
Had my day off cancelled with a bunch of other guys. District didn't have enough cars so I sat there making OT. Not very good management. Good job merit exempts! $$$$$$
Called the FOP looks like this current administration is the same as the old..no answer except "we will see if they do it again. "
