So How Many Retired?

No specific word from our contacts at the Puzzle Palace. We've seen comments ranging from 170 to well over 240.

We know more than a few went in April from our Districts and nearly double that in May. There's still a few who put in for retirement before the Contract expires.

So who has the real number?

Call the pension board. They have to have the papers. It's no secret, ask your representative. This isn't any conspiracy. Everyone knows there is a larger than normal number retiring because of the healthcare benefit

I yanked the plug in March. The day I was at HQ, a minimum 8 others came in, just in the time it took to process me.
From my former district alone, 6 have gone within the last last 3 months.

As a retired cop, live healthy, keep your friends, stay active, and enjoy your new phase of life. You deserve it.

All of us know that you won't miss the job, but will miss your buddies. Stay in touch with them.

We all have great stories, and laugh a lot at retired cop get togethers.

I retired in April. It's been a full month and only now is it beginning to set in. I thought I'd be a basket case but surprisingly I don't miss it.....the job. I do miss the people. There have been a few bumps in the road. Had a problem with the insurance but got that ironed out. Now I'm just waiting for the first pension check.

Life is good!

Stay safe!

Plan for your retirement. make sure you have enough money put aside, or find a job for a few years, so you have a comfortable retirement according to your wants and needs. Don't wait too long, life is short and the job that you spent doing in your adulthood just shortened it. I have been gone 15 years and It was the best decision that I ever made. I enjoyed most of the time on the job, with the exception of a couple of incompetent and racist commanders on the south side. Go, retire, enjoy life, but make sure you have a plan. It will go easier for you.

162 were scheduled to retire on 15 May, I was one of them. If you have your papers in order the process was seamless. Turned in star, shield and ID and eventually left with retired star and ID 2 hours later. God bless C.P.D. and all the hard working coppers and their families. Stay safe and perk yourself when you have the chance, cover your ass and eventually soon you will be in the KMA club too.

No arrivals - just departures.
No hires - No promotions.
Chairs could be reshuffled in grand fashion...maybe Friday.

Was at Personnel last week and one person said around 150+ were scheduled for this week.
It's always best to leave before the 16th of any month, but not detrimental, it's just makes accounting easy because of the pay period ending 1st-15th and 16-30th and when you'll expect to see the first pension check.
And that only matters if you're drowned in debt and really shouldn't be retiring.

Good Luck to all pulled the plug.

I haven't seen the academy vibrant with this many recruits since I came on in the 90's. The problem is that they may hire 140 people and tell them to report to the academy for the start of training and only 85 show up. Their having difficulty getting the numbers.

12:45 The "Puzzle Palace" is a tern referring to NSA headquarters, not CIA. Please see the book by Bamford of the same title. I worked in the Army's NSA arm in the late '60's, and joined CPD after separation from active duty.
I visited the Puzzle Palace several times while stationed at Vint Hill Farm outside Warrenton,Virginia.

Vibrant? The academy is a disorganized mess with a DC who is clueless. 4 classes have been hired this year. How many have been 100 recruits? One class was composed of 60 recruits. Wonder why the city has problems finding enough recruits to fill the academy? Most fail the final power test or reject the job at the last minute. in the meantime, look at some of the recruits that are in the academy? One female clouted recruit on crutches?
