- So the CPD went under Civil Service back in 1898 ostensibly to keep "politics" out of the department. So how is it that Christopher Kennedy, son of RFK, civilian, and "outsider" to CPD, was the "reference" for no less than 11 people who were promoted under merit to the ranks of Captain, Lieutenant and Detective? This is the same Christopher Kennedy who is now running for Governor. So isn't it ironic (actually pathetic) that the same people who scream about "merit" will likely vote for Christopher Kennedy for Governor? Wait..there's more... all 11 of the Kennedy merit promotions were White/Males...so not only is he a bleeding heart libturd politician calling the shots in the CPD promotional system, he's a real phony one too.
It was buried in the 2006-2016 "Merit" list post.

SCC, CPD those have some winner brother. Chris is a decent man as his father when head of HBT and B & A. Chris does have a great sense of humor. Real funny guy. I had seen my share of Jerry; Kids on CPD. Some were just stupid in all respects and they usually were sitting in a hospital detail, to watch an arrestee that did not exist. They had zero sense in not calling the desk Sgt and stating that there was no prisoner. They even asked for a lunch relief.
The dumbbells even called the new desk crew and asked for his relief. The Sgt went off on the fool and told him to go the fuck home and bring the radio back the next day.
Many of these fools of old, and present still exist in many numbers.
On a few times, before caller I.D, we called many a fool at home and told him to report to a district a few away and that he was now a Sgt. The fool did walk into the district and told the desk sgt that he was a sgt too and wanted a white shirt that was supposed to be given him. Sgt threw him out of the building and the guy called the W/C of the district. The W/C threw a fit.
The copper did get transferred the next period, but still went to his old district. Many a story in the CPD. The clown coppers ran the circus big time.
Congratulations.

Phil Collins the copper was a good dude. Old school Flags Club guy from the 'ville. RIP. I remember when he was chasing a burglar while 99 and he got his hand caught in an overhead garage door as the bad guy pulled it down and it chopped off 2 of Phil's fingers from the knuckles up. I was the first one on scene and Phil was more concerned about the bad guy getting caught than his fingers. I specifically remember Phil standing in the alley smoking a cigarette saying, "hey kid, pat that a-hole down and see if he's got a couple of my fingers on him". They don't make em like that anymore.

The Kennedy who was the HBT leader in the 80's was one of the most arrogant assholes I ever met on the department. Ask anyone who was on Lill Street. Many quit HBT after that incident. Maybe some other guys will chime in here.

I met him about 25 years ago at the Flags Club when I worked in 009.
Always a true gentleman and looked out for all of us after he retired.

Jorge Flores who was a PO in Maurer's office also became a Sergeant during that same time period. Did no police work, was sent to Headquarters with 1 maybe two years on the job. I think he is at the Academy teaching kids how to be the police, go figure!

It's amazing how so many can complain about members of NOBLE being involved in a cheating scandal, but only a few remember when all of these "sons/daughters of", "wives/girlfriends of", and other relatives of former (and current) exempts are miraculously so smart as to score #1 or #2 on all these promotional exams that WERE NOT members of NOBLE. But nobody said anything about them. I wonder why? I guess if I was related to a boss, I'd be automatically smart enough to be promoted too. But I'm not a Kennedy or a Walsh or an Robards or a Chichzewski. My tough luck.

that's all fine and dandy, but I still don't understand how a "city in Missouri" can investigate anything ??? and BTW, I am only 1800 out on the Sgt's list. - so I know what I'm talkig about here

Seriously though, between this blog and the crew over at http://heyjackass.com, I can't fathom how the citizenry hasn't stormed the offices of the Tribune, the Sun-Times and City Hall with pitchforks and torches, and flat out DEMANDED an end to the pandering bullshit. I guess the less painful option is to just vote with their feet.
It's amazing how so many can complain about members of NOBLE being involved in a cheating scandal, but only a few remember when all of these "sons/daughters of", "wives/girlfriends of", and other relatives of former (and current) exempts are miraculously so smart as to score #1 or #2 on all these promotional exams that WERE NOT members of NOBLE. But nobody said anything about them. I wonder why? I guess if I was related to a boss, I'd be automatically smart enough to be promoted too. But I'm not a Kennedy or a Walsh or an Robards or a Chichzewski. My tough luck.

Nobody said anything about them??? Lol ... everybody beefed about it. Read back and you'll see. Nobody should get special treatment and those dumb enough (yet smart enough to pass?) to leave evidence should answer.

Ha Ha Ha! Mauer had that picture made into baseball cards and used to hand them out. He was truly delusional. Many ended up in urinals, but the best was the Watch Commander in a certain Northside District that made a shrine with the Mexican candles as a joke. The old guys were the best. Our spineless Watch Commander would take it down every day and hide it in a drawer, but it would be back up the next day!
