Once Again, A Bat

  • An NYPD Sgt. Hugh Barry was charged Wednesday for committing murder when he shot a mentally ill woman named Deborah Danner in October 2016 inside her apartment in Castle Hill neighborhood in the Bronx.
A Grand Jury was requested and denied before the railroading began. The basis for the charges?
  • Barry responded to a call that said that a mentally ill woman was behaving “irrationally” in her apartment. When Barry reached her apartment, Danner reportedly had scissors. Barry had been successful in persuading her to drop her scissors however, she picked up a baseball bat instead and charged towards him. Barry shot Danner twice in the torso, after which she was taken to a local medical centre and later succumbed to her injuries.
So evidently, a bat is not a lethal weapon, even in New York. We will make the same offer to the Bronx DA that we have made to numerous reporters, politicians and state's attorneys here over the years:
  • We will equip you with a full compliment of less-than-lethal weapons (baton, Taser) and police equipment (cuffs, vest, etc.)
  • We will then hide in a controlled environment, preferably a bedroom with a closet, armed only with a baseball bat.
  • You will respond to the "scene" and  place us into "custody" using all of your extensive police knowledge.
You win if you can place us into handcuffs with no muss, no fuss.

You lose if you hurt our feelings, we suffer any bruise, we bleed, or we happen to beat you to death with the bat.

All we need is a pre-signed letter of your declining to press charges no matter the outcome. Put up or shut up.

In accordance with the liberal dialogue--- It is cheaper to bury a dead cop, you know the routine already with the squad cars coming to the wake and blah blah blah a Champlain, blah blah blah... any who.. it is cheaper to for the city to bury a cop than it is to pay an upstanding citizen who places a beef... if you don't believe me--- ask JVD how that ordeal he is going through...then go play cops in a shithole district. At the end of the day, I wonder if any of the guys on scene at the McDonald shooting regret joining CPD. I don't care if they wish they weren't on scene or had taken lunch, I would like to know if they honestly regret joining the department. And after having their life flipped upside down, I bet they do regret it.

Considering the demographics of the electorate/jury pool of the Bronx, a police officer, particularly a Caucasian, is a hundred times more likely to get indicted for bullshit than the proverbial ham sandwich. Also, check "THEE (NYPD) RANT" on this subject.

Recommended novel and/or movie about a Bronx jury: "The Bonfire of the Vanities" at your local library Great read!

There is no pleasing these mis-mothered fucks
who sit in judgement of Policemen.

We wonder how loudly they would have hollered
for The Policeman's scalp had he whooped the
shit out her with his baton until she dropped
the bat and became compliant?

So Policemen have to love violent people
into compliance?

Now they want to lynch this Officer

You need to make it more fair.

There should be two of you hiding, one of which plays the hysterical victim, and the other that has the bat.

Maybe change it up, and exchange the bat to a little 6" knife sometimes.

And this is why you should do as little police work as possible. How many examples do you need to be shown? This guy wasn't even being proactive and was responding to a call and he still got screwed. In the liberal mind, he should have taken a bat to the head and left his children fatherless rather than hurt some drain on society loon that should be in a mental institution. This is what you want to risk everything for? You and your family's livelihood for these ungrateful police hating assholes?

HEY just ask that question to Mobster, Tony (Joe Batters) Accardo, BATTER UP , we can now carry a Baseball Bat instead of our Iron ASP Batons

It was during Prohibition that Accardo received the "Joe Batters" nickname from Capone himself due to his skill at hitting a trio of Outfit traitors with a baseball bat at a dinner Capone held just to kill the three men. Capone was allegedly quoted as saying, "Boy, this kid's a real Joe Batters."

There was no video of this shooting that I could find, but based on the apparently undisputed fact that the person charged a police officer with a baseball bat it seems like the officer was in fear for his life and justified in using deadly force.

She attacked with a baseball bat. Good shooting Officer. Now, please allow me to sit on the jury. Prejudiced? No, common sense.
Next call about a mental case, dispatch can tell the caller to handle it, then the police can go arrest the murderer.

Every call of a mental that has a history of being violent should be scooped up and dropped off at the tribune tower, suntimes building, channel 2 station and let's not forget the big one City hall. AND.... if someone was to have happened to accidentally left their softball or baseball equipment (i.e. bat) in said locations. Maybe we will see some serious social justice in action!

SSSSSLLLLLLOOOOWWW ROLL TO THAT BATTERY IP CALL FELLAS.

I'm old and a really long time ago, I used to wait for a shuttle bus outside of Dunning. It was a mental hospital and on nice days the patients would roam the grounds and talk to me over the short fence. I was a kid, but even then I knew that these people should not be on my side of the fence. Fast forward and the do-gooders decide these people should be out in public to fend for themselves with the police, EMTs etc serving as their support system.

I would make the suggestion that if a bat is considered a less lethal use of force, why not go through R&D, procurement, Field Testing, Requesting A Bid, and get bats to every officer in the department. This is a lot cheaper than Bean Bag Guns(retrofitted equipment, training, expense of annual qualification), Tasers (equipment, training, expense of annual qualification). The training would even be covered under the Baton/ASP, which everyone receives in the academy(no expense of new training).

We could be given a list of brands to use, length to weight ratio limitations, colors, etc. Proficiency is as easy as batting practice with your kid in the back yard. With this easy practice and cost efficiency, I bet that the hit ratio would be higher than with a firearm.

Could you imagine the money the city would save on lawsuit payouts if bats were used. No more excessive force complaints, lawsuits, or investigations.

There might even be some really cool play sword fights in the parking lot.

Can I get my problem solving award now?

Well, duh, of COURSE he is up on charges. Everybody knows that the correct response when charged by a looney with a baseball bat is to softly sing Kumbaya and give her a warm hug. And homemade cookies (gluten free, dairy free and vegan, of course). Preferably while apologizing at length for your class/race privilege and very existence on this earth.
If she still decides to beat you brainless then you should cheerfully submit. Since you are a member of a bistorically patriarchal and oppressive group, it is only fair turnabout to make up for centuries of subjugation and mistreatment of the poor unfortunate soul in question (pick a protected class, any protected class). All this applies unless the looney bat chargee is a white dude you: in that case, feel free to cap his ass. He probably voted for Trump anyways.

Ya'll clearly need more sensitivity training.

Rahm must be trying to stall an eminent acquittal of JVD - seems Judge Gaughan wants to hear from Dep. McN & Det about statements that were made when the geeked out armed maniac LeQuen was shot. Special prosecutors want use any far reaching statements as a last ditch effort. At stake is a Summer of Rampaging by the community for the acquittal in July-Aug or stall until Nov-Dec.
This charade has to wrap up and out of the folks memory before Rahm launches his re-election campaign in late 2018.

first the progressives do not want the police to shoot an unarmed man under any circumstances, no matter if this unarmed man is beating the crap out of you and might disarm you any second. Now they do not want the police to shoot someone charging you with a baseball bat saying you have less lethal means to subdue this person. What is next? tireiron, pipe? The new county prosecutor of Philadelphia is a strong anti-police attorney who sued the police many times for excessive force. Those men and women of the Philly department are going to be worse off then the CPD with Foxx.

Liberal mentality is : When you arrive on scene, bust out that magic fairy dust and blow it up the ass of the "alleged irrational victim" and all will magically be marvelous. A job well done pat on the back for the officer, hand jobs for the politicans, and a happy ending for the suspect/ victim. The press will slobber up the front page with crap about how privileged we all are to live in the liberal utopia and everyone will happily vote YES oh YES on the next tax increase to pay for the fairy dust (lining of pockets) as their political masters discharge their God given authority all over them.

Liberalism is a devastating disease that we all pay for together. It's more sick to than funny.

I'm a liberal. But I wouldn't vote to convict either.

What's with the writing in that article anyway? "Charged for committing murder." Um, no, that's what the jury decides. He was charged with murder.

The charge is "second-degree murder", by the way. Is that the NY version of voluntary manslaughter? I still wouldn't vote to convict, but it's always good to know the full story.

You possibly are correct in this. But, why put this poor cop through such a wringer that probably will ruin his mental and physical health for life. For an honest law abiding person nothing is so damaging then being indicted and charged with a serious crime when you are just plain innocent.
