Slightly above average in terms of mayhem, but normal:
- Shootings over the Memorial Day weekend left seven people dead and another 45 wounded in Chicago, a sharp drop from last year, though almost half of this year's victims were shot the last night of the weekend.
The violence this weekend was similar to three of the last five Memorial Day weekends: 53 gunshot victims in 2012, and 58 in 2015. A total of 34 people were shot in 2014, and 21 were shot in 2013.
Last year's total was 71 and was the worst since at least 2012. It came during a year that saw almost 800 homicides and more than 4,000 people shot.
Let's figure this out:
- 2012 - 53 shot; 11 dead
- 2013 - 21 shot; 4 dead
- 2014 - 34 shot; 6 dead
- 2015 - 58 shot; 12 dead
- 2016 - 71 shot; 6 dead
- 2017 - 52 shot; 7 dead

It's amazing to me how the little weasel Rahm continues to escape the scrutiny and questions about a police department that is under staffed. One of the first things he did was slash 1500 spots. Followed by closing districts and areas and despite the fact that this city is known as the murder capital of the world , he walks. Nobody says a goddamn thing. Not the media. Not the majority of the politicians and certainly not the top brass of this department (are you listening Gary ? Eddie?). He is a total piece of shit

I don't know who I should be contacting about this extraordinary incident that I along with dozens of others witnessed this morning. I talked to a friend and he told me about this blog. I hope that everyone gets to see or hear this story and the media picks it up.
I was driving west bound on 290 headed out from the city back to the suburbs and noticed a young black teenager running up and down the El tracks along the expressway between Homan and Kedzie. This freaked me out because he was dressed in what looked like hospital garments. A couple of plain clothes police officers showed up on the expressway and a few more on the platform of the El station. These officers did something that I believe was above and beyond the call of duty. These 4-5 officers risked their life and placed the life of this young male above their own. I don't know what the conversation was between these officers and this young male who is obviously a danger to himself and the surrounding community but this young male was clearly trying to commit suicide or severely hurt himself and others. This young man kept trying to touch or grab the "third rail" which would of electrocuted himself and probably hurt dozens of others standing on the cta platform waiting for their train to arrive. These extraordinary officers kept talking to this young man and every time he reached to grab or touch that line they talked him out of it. These officers were very patient, kept their composure, and acted very professionally through the eyes of an extremely dangerous situation. I don't know police protocol and will not pretend or judge these officers actions but I seriously thought that this situation was going g to end a lot differently based on the bad publicity the Chicago police get. These officers changed my view and thoughts of all officers and the immediate dangers they have to deal with on a daily basis. These officers should be commended with the highest honors that police officers could receive. You have never witnessed a situation like this before and I was shaking in my vehicle while theee brave officers handled this situation like true professionals and kept this young man from hurting himself and others. Thank you for changing my mind and perspective of the Chicago Police Department. Mayor Rahm Emanuel should be proud and should be promoting these few officers all over the media to show everyone how brave these officers are.

It is obvious you are not a police officer, but if you are a police officer, you must be having a very sheltered career.
In lower socio-economic neighborhoods you will be harassed, harmed and even killed if seen assisting the police. Outing yourself is a death sentence. Even so, without going into detail, they are many honorable, yet invisible, people in those same neighborhoods. To be a captain or of higher rank, clout is always involved. Any type of clout. In Pontecore's case, he is highly qualified as a commander and is doing an excellent job in 008.
