Here a Tax, There a Tax

  • For the second year in a row, the property-tax man is about to dig deeper into Chicagoans wallets.

On average, Chicago homeowners can expect a 10 percent increase — about $360 — when the second installment of their property tax bills arrive later this month, according to a new report from Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office.

It’s the second straight year of double-digit increases prompted in part by tax hikes approved in 2015 by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the City Council. Those increases, for pensions and school construction, sparked last year’s bills to increase nearly 13 percent on average.
We certainly hope the FOP is asking for a commensurate pay raise to offset this double-digit increase in taxes, especially as we're required to live in this slowly devolving city. 13% last year and 10% this year? There isn't a single office-holder in northeastern Illinois who should have a job next election cycle.

The pink faces know exactly when to levy the tax increase. The increase always comes in the second installment which is 45% of the annual tax bill, thus helping make the total look more palatable.

How a top to bottom financial audit of all of that public money. Maybe taxpayers can have a "special auditor" or an " independent auditor" or perhaps a "bi-partisan financial forensic investigation.". Lots of money with little oversight and little or no accountability. How about re-examine the current practices before reaching deep into the pockets and purses of the working middle class.

Balanced budgets. Thats only for the private sector with all the tax regulation politicians write and then codify. Lots of red tape with endless reporting processes submitted to the government under the penalty of perjury for those signing off and in essence, ultimately taking accountability. If a business had "sloppy" or deceptive accounting practices, punishment with hefty fines and accrued interest await the firm and their financial executives face pending felony charges for financial malfeasance, tax evasion, etc. Or sent packing to collect unemployment compensation. Double standard?

I don't know all the in's and out's of residency but FOP should at least look into it. For those who say "You knew it was a requirement for the job when you took the job", it's true. But there were other things that we had that we no longer have so at the very least benefits and job requirement are fluid. Somethings changed with Rahm in the past month, I'm sure it's for his own benefit, maybe it's re-election but bows the time to fight for this

The city has decided that it is their money, and they will do as they please with it. No matter that Judges have ordered them otherwise. The Law doesn't apply to them. The taxes will be raised, and no money will go to the pension funds...fact.

If U plan on staying in CPD and retiring (W/O Insurance) You had better be maxxed out in Def Comp. It's the only fallback...Unless you know how to invest and beat the market, in which case you should not be a cop...

Does anybody know if when the Pension fund collapses, do we still get a reduced Social Security check?

Agreed just got off the phone with my sister she has lived in Tinley park subdivision 15 years she is looking to move out, kids are raised schools (big drug problems like many suburban schools but try to keep it out of the media0 are just OK not great out there section 8 moving in and they have many arabs (Not racism realism) everywhere built a giant mosque many are not clean people leave it at that! her water bill metered same as ours is triple mine, her taxes on double lot are at $12,500 a year, monthly garbage pickup is $38.00 (Oh and they don't pick up anywhere near the things we throw out all have to be separated and extra bags are more money to pick up),you need a car to drive to any store.

Saying that to say this be careful what you wish for, we all want that paradise place, even look at once the "best city to live in" naperville shootings, crime, drugs section 8 welcomed! How about uber expensive Lagrange, in the last couple of weeks no secret was in media home invasions, and black kids on bikes robbing at gunpoint children! so the question is where is this ideal "land of Oz" anyone?

This is true. For example we live in Garfield Ridge I know idiots refer to it as "Garcia ridge" That is OK,you want to feel the pulse of an area the #1 person is if you have a regular mailman which we have, asked him about neighborhood and the "Garcia ridge" moniker he said yes some Hispanics are moving in, but majority are coppers and other city workers, and want to raise their families in a safe area! Then you look at what is going on with housing. Housing here we have 4 competing groups from area buying up all the old houses they can completely rehabbing them and selling them for anywhere from $300-500K and when you talk to some of them they are selling within 2 weeks at asking prices! No they are not section 8 them out they are buying them. what is being done to make Garfield ridge better on Archer? Many things are being developed and talked about, for example look at land cleared by 52nd and Harlem huge lot,Archer and Narragansett BBQ restaurant, New Aldi, on Archer and Harlem with many organic foods at responsible prices,we have Cta direct to El train, we have Pace bus on archer to all suburbs, another "secret" you can park your vehicle for $20.00 a month in a safe lot by metra train "heritage corridor" in summit and be downtown in 18 minutes at union station.

Oh and this Friday huge car show on Archer with food trucks, much of this revival is thanks to Al Caccitolo who is 23rd ward streets and san superintendent, who runs the Garfield ridge neighborhood watch and works tirelessly to keep this area engaged. We have up to 4 parades a year,a Christmas tree lighting, a newer ice skating rink it is still the city but it is so far a great place to live!

Drive around look at all the blue lights on, the we support our police signs, beats 811-812 and the entire 10 sector plus tact teams are around ever vigilant because they know we support them 110%!

Then cross "the border" into Summit 57th and Harlem complete block coming down for more business development, and that old VFW 62nd and Harlem is going to be something nice after approval of permits! Business does not invest in areas where they feel it will not be profitable! The coppers constantly crying about "residency" if you want out many suburban depts are hiring make the move let us know how that works out for you!! Tired of the crybabies!

Said it before, Say it again. When will the people circulate a petition requiring that there are "NO NEW TAXES OR FEE'S OR GAMBLING EXPANSION....ETC...ETC IN THE ENTIRE STATE UNTIL THESE(USE YOUR CHOICE ADJECTIVES AND NOUN DESCRIPTORS)DEFICITS ARE BROUGHT DOWN AND ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY NO PAY RAISES OR BENEFITS TO THESE IRRESPONSIBLE POLITICIANS UNTIL THEY ACCOMPLISH THIS"!
We are 2 years without a state budget, a states attorney arbitrarily interprets law to her satisfaction, a mayor defies the federal government using tax money to aid non-citizens, and a county commissioner creates a tax that makes the county a partner with the sugar soft drink industry while conspiring with the sheriff to find ways of releasing more criminals onto the streets of city, county, state putting every taxpayer at risk of life and property.

I was lucky to have two re-assessments lowered in the past 6 years. My assessed value is at $31,000 and is now at the level it was in 2009. But not for long on this cracker jack ranch.
Even though the assessed value vs. property value higher in 2009, the tax bill total is now $2000 more than in it was 2009.
Don't think for a moment the Crooks of County Cook don't know who suck money from. And to make it easier, I'm sure there's a city employee cross reference they use.

One thing for sure is that although SW is taxed a bit lower than the NW side, it seems they're percentage increases are catching up. The SW side is no longer an RE tax or freeloader/criminal safe haven it once was.

Nonetheless, the spending spree at CPS keeps getting the lion share of the bill with no end or harness to their corrupt money wasting.
It's for the KIDS is Rahm Bullshit.
It's for the greedy CPS/CTU...it's how they get pay raises for part time work.
If they don't get their money, they Strike...they quickly get to forget about the kids for all its worth.
And the weak, beleaguered patsy Rahm bends over backwards.

Squawk all you want for a 20% raise, Residency or to keep a bit of the DA, UA, PD's and BFD's.
All are open season targets and going to be negotiated out or down.
We have NO leverage But our Attendance on any given Day.

Better off renting out your Chicago residence and paying an equally high Sanctuary tax rate for a suburban crib.
Use a land trust too and ditch the decal.

Illinois Sends “Dear Contractor” Letters Ordering Them to Stop All Road Construction
Written by Bob Adelmann

Illinois contractors working on the state’s roads just received a “Dear Contractor” letter from the state ordering them to halt work because the state is out of money to pay them:

At this time appropriate funding is not available after June 30, 2017. Thus, work shall cease effective June 30, 2017.

Please bring all projects to a condition that will provide a clear and safely traveled way….

On July 1, 2017, all work shall cease except for maintenance.… The department will notify you when work may resume.

Since city employees are required to live in the city, and unlike citizens who can and often do move out of the city, there is no question that pay increases should be commensurate with tax increases.

Hopefully it will be taken to court soon. But it will not be easy to win. If it was an easy case to win it would have been filed already. A slam dunk case would have had the lawyers and FOP jumping all over it. Who wouldn't want to stay they won the case that lifted Chicago residency requirements?
Ulitimately the Illinois Supreme Court will have the final decision on the case so that might give you an idea of the uphill climb it is facing
Good luck though

Because “Muh property values!” They can't/won't face the fact that the city is built on a house of cards.

Even if they lift residency, I don't belive that many people will actually move. They ARE established in the community, and have a lot invested there, not just in terms of dollars. Sure, Alsip, Oak Lawn, Niles & Park Ridge will see a small rise in new residents, but who wants to drive all over Hell's half-acre to get to work?

WRONG!!! Has nothing to do with what a citizen gets. If you get a federal, state, municipal or none profit pension the amount of social security depends on what your pension pays you. Therefore if you are not getting a city pension from the city, you get full social security

Why would your mortgage payment go up this month? Can't be property taxes, the second half installment isn't due until august and haven't been mailed out yet. Bank can't increase your payment until they actually see the increase on the bill and also the city won't be reassessed until 2018 and that increase won't be billed until the next year. I suggest you find out why, maybe an adjustable mortgage and interest rates are rising?

I have seen hundreds of times the endowments that the Pritzker foundation makes to Public Television broadcasting. Now Pritzker is running against Rauner. Is this a Mike Madigan hand pick to put the heat on Rauner? I wonder how much the Pritzker foundation has given to Mike Madigans campaign funds and PACs....

Keep the pressure on.....Rauner said he would drive the Illinois business as usual politicians crazy. I think it must be working.....I'm voting for Rauner!
