More Questions Than Answers
We're not saying that to be smart asses as we were when Special Ed spouted his nonsense before driving the bus over some officers. We're truly confused as to the entire series of events that led to two unnecessary deaths:
- A high-speed collision that killed an off-duty Chicago cop and a woman on the West Side began when police tried to pull over the officer's Jeep because it resembled one that had been involved in a carjacking, authorities said.
Officers in an unmarked police car tried to stop the off-duty officer around 1 a.m. Tuesday at Roosevelt Road and Independence Boulevard, according to chief police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. But the off-duty officer fled and collided with a car at Roosevelt and Kostner Avenue, less than a mile away.
The officer's SUV rolled on its side, and the other car was crushed by the impact. Both the officer and the woman driving the other car were killed.
Sympathies to the 010th District on the loss of their co-worker. Prayers for his family. And condolences to the family of the woman killed in the collision.
Idle speculation will be deleted out of hand.

Sounds like a whole lotta humbug.
Not idle speculation, but a serious question. Was the 'unmarked' one of ours, or was it a rental car?
This one is a mystery. Sorry for the young lady who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Prayers for her family.
Prayers for both families.
He was a good man and an excellent police officer. He wasn't fleeing a traffic stop.
Why are you chasing?
I think the police escort to the county morgue should be reserved for PO's killed in the line of duty.
4 year wonders have no business assigned to tactical team.
Is "Chief Police Spokesman" now an exempt rank?
Everyone please, slow down on your way home. Condolences to all his coworkers and to the young ladies family.
I know it's too late for a happy ending, but I sure hope this story at least comes to a conclusion that doesn't make anyone look bad or worse here. RIP to both of them
It's an extremely tragic incident. We may never know the reasons.
To the "why are you chasing?" comment, the better question is, why was the off-duty not pulling over. It's very simple. PULL OVER!!!!!!!!
Let's not blame officers for doing their job. Society already blames us and never the offender for his actions, so why contribute to this?
Unfortunately the officers that initiated the chase will have to live with these senseless deaths for the rest of their lives, keep them in your prayers as well...
So sad, RIP to both the women and the officer.
very strange things are happening

Good question, but whatever the answer did not know the copper but he was part of our "family" may he rest in peace Godspeed brother!
It's a guaranteed fuck up of deadly accident and chain reaction of events. A disaster to investigate from the get-go and a press conference hours after it all occurred spouting what happened? All the evidence, interviews and footage reviewed in a shift and a half with our best of the best working the case, I guess.
To be honest, I think the copper was messing around. He saw the squad lights, decided to get a laugh out of it. Got distracted looking out the rear view mirror and went onto on oncoming traffic...
It's a tragedy
Prayers for the woman killed and the officer that struck her and their respective families. We may never know what happened. Prayers, too, go out to the officers who were allegedly "chasing" the off duty officer. They must have been impacted by this event also.
Tragic all around with lots of questions that may never be answered or at least with answers that will never be revealed. At the end of the day it makes no sense why any off-duty would not pull over for a fellow brother in blue.
Lost for words, Only the officer who passed really knows what and why it happened. My condolences to the Officer and young womans family, this is a nightmare for two families.
This whole thing is a head-scratcher. Condolences to the officer's family and to the family of the young lady who was killed.
Tragic is about the only way to describe it.

Your comment is complete irrelevant here. Would not being on a tactical team make the officer a safer driver?
Very sad story. My prayers are with both families. Also the on-duty officers, who at this point seem to have been doing their jobs.

Take it easy Monday morning QB.
It was a shitty situation and at the time nobody knew anything except that a PO had been killed and a bunch of the responding units knew the guy. All we can do is take care of one another, NOBODY else will.
How hard is it to understand not to chase????

Officers didn't initiate a chase. They initiated a car stop, the po that ran initiated the chase

Hey asshole. On or off duty its an Officer. You must be a hair gel puppy on the job and if you"re not, You are truly a fucking jagoff. It doesn't cost us a single dime to follow a fallen brother or sister to that horrible place. This is something the fallens family can hold on for comfort and feel that their loved one belongs to the family of the thin blue line. God know nobody gives a rats ass for us but heaven help us if we start doing the same.

Most officers with time don't want any part of that. Who else are they gonna get to fill those ranks?
Prayers for the officers who tried to pull this guy over only to find out later it was a fellow officer who, for reasons unknown at this time, did not pull over....
Prayers for the officers who had to do the paper, guard the crash scene, interview witnesses, go with the bodies to the morgue, console the families of the deceased.... make sure to take care of yourselves and know you did the best you could.

The thin blue line is reserved for those who have kept their lives unsullied. Or have you forgotten that part of your oath of office. Heaven help us if the thin blue line continues to condone egregious behavior within the ranks.
Prayer for both families. He was a good cop and will be missed.
As for it being a chase, I find that hard to believe. Review the PODs. 4200 Roosevelt and no lights on.... only video I see with lights is the one the media has from 4220. By that time the jeep is prob at kostner...

Hey Moron, no one gives a rats ass about us but at the same time escorting everyone demeans the deaths of those who truly sacrificed on duty. Off duty car wrecks and suicides while sad do not equate to going to work one day and not leaving.
It wasn't a chase. Who know why he was driving the way he was (we'll never know) he was driving way to fast before the police even saw him. By the time they even processed what was happening he was 6 blocks in front of them. Tragic situation that no one will ever have answers for
Like someone said in another post "Why is anyone doing more than their jobs require anymore?" I can't believe how many times I get stopped running a "late yellow" after hours with nobody around. I'm always SMH and LOL saying "Really guys?" My last red light turned into a CR and a big headache for what? A traffic ticket? Then you go to T/C and the judge looks at you like you're the asshat? I used to be a DUI writer in 022 and stopped that shit years ago.
I'm in a lawsuit a month from retirement that just sprung up a month ago. The two others involved had both retired 6 and 9 months ago and now we are all being sued individually and the city now makes you sign a form at representation stating that the city policy is now if you get sued individually the city will not pay that portion anymore.
I asked my attys how common it is for coppers to payout and they looked at each other and said the last case the coppers each had to pay out $10,000 out of pocket and it will be garnished from their checks. Problem is that doesn't make the blog or news so coppers keep doing shit and paying out and nobody talks about it. In my incident I was on the paper; not box 1, box 2 only the wagon assisting. I get you have to take calls but to go above and beyond? Really?
Why anyone is doing shit above and beyond what's required is beyond me. I just sold my house and all my money is in a college fund for my kid and my properties I purchased in Central America are in a foreign corp and my business here is in an LLC. They can't touch me from what I can see and my atty's said but no so for my the other two involved as they own places here in the USA. One is living in NC and they asked her to fly in and she said NO WAY so the corp counsel is flying to NC to meet her.
Guys if you are out there doing it you better protect your assets if you own any. I'm now moving my IRA to Deferred Comp to avoid them touching that.

You weren't there. He was our friend. And a good PO. We give a rats ass. Maybe not your old sorry ass. We all knew him. Fuck all of you very much. Lazy ass dogs.
RIP TC
Here is all I am going to say about this. I know both officers pretty well and had he pulled over there would be two more individuals walking the earth. This could have happened to any of us. You throw the lights on for 10 seconds and see the situation isn't worth it so you disengage. The final result is truly a tragedy but what is done, is done.
For the love of god, stop doing anything beyond your calls.

Hey Fuckwad. You must be a green behind the ears, have shit for time on the job super cop but when you're all growed up and truly know what it is to wear the badge you might understand. I will escort ANY Officer who dies on or off duty. You say it demeans those who truly sacrificed?? Go fuck your self... What the fuck do you know about that? I had a partner because of his family situation take his life and we escorted him to the morgue. Stop watching all those power ranger shows in yo mamas basement and grow up a lil you little shit. Enjoy your 2B 3B furlo asswipe
Great PO, he truly was the working police. My Blue lights are on for him. Take care brothers and sisters.
What's wrong with turning on the lights for a fellow officer. He hasn't been proven guilty of anything. You don't know why he refused to pull over. Do some research and enlighten yourself. Until you know what some of us already knows ..Shut up and wait until it comes out.
As much as we discuss pursuits on this blog, why is anyone still chasing? This is the fourth one this year. Please don't ask me to purchase or sell tickets.
Anyone of us should not go to that God awful morgue alone I don't care how you die, how long you are on the job or have been retired from the job. Maybe the assholes that think it should be reserved for those that die in the line of duty should spend a few tours there!!!!!!!!!
