Police as Firefighters

This has been discussed here on occasion, more as a joke than anything else, but someone actually took it seriously:
  • Do you lie awake at night in constant fear a fire will break out and nothing will be done to put it out?

For the 99% of the population not suffering from pyrophobia or a similar neurosis, the answer to that question is “no,” even though firefighters aren’t patrolling the streets in their big red trucks. They still manage to arrive at the scene of a fire within minutes of an emergency call.

Why can’t police departments be run the same way?
We're of the opinion that a sizable portion of the Department has already self-initiated this course of action. Arrests are down, tickets are down, interactions with the public are down, supposedly, lawsuits are down. The progressive vision of a regressive police force has become reality.

The link to the Huffington Post is full of the usual liberal tripe, mis-characterizations and lies. But one shocking conclusion will end up giving liberals the vapors:
  • Here’s the catch: you can’t have a free society where this “protection” occurs in advance. The federal and every state constitution assumes the government can’t and shouldn’t do anything to prevent a crime. The Fourth and Fifth amendments were written to keep the government from even trying. They assume the government is powerless until a crime has already occurred, the Fourth in particular providing further restraint on how the government investigates after the fact.

Defending oneself while a crime is occurring is left to the citizen. It’s not a responsibility of the police. Even the Supreme Court agrees. Protecting oneself is what the Second Amendment is all about.
Imagine that -someone who is beginning to understand the reasons behind the Constitution.

We concur wholeheartedly...

Reduced Police footprint and visibility...

Chicago Police cars should be a subdued
gray that fades into the urban backdrop.

No exterior emergency lights.

That's what the ACLU, #blm, the Trotskyite Progressive
SJWs and the Grievance Industrial Complex (the media,
the catered-to constituencies and the democratic politicians)
have said they wanted.

Right?

"GAAAHH!
There are 1000+ people in the park next to my house!
DO SOMETHING!"

Mind your business...
It ain't a problem unless they reversed a stolen
van up your front steps and through your door.

Since your eyes get moist at the sight of a
Police baton raised more than shoulder height
to do what needs to be done, you'll have the
bitter joy of finally having to defend yourself.

Why should only The Policeman be well acquainted
with feeling all alone?

Come... Share the cup with us.

Exactly. Respond, report, investigate and arrest once probable cause is established,. That is what the police were designed to do and Sir Robert Peele is probably rolling over in his grave given the responsibilities now shouldered by today's police. Prevention of crime is the obligation of the whole of society i.e. Public policy, family structure, quality education etc. Sadly, our society has failed miserably in each of these respects. Laying the guilt for sociopathic, teenaged murderers on the doorstep of an undermanned, out gunned and decent group of public servants is irresponsible at best and pathetic to say the least.

If more good citizens dispatched the POS during the commission of a criminal act, criminal acts committed by POS would be down. Even POS can reason that there is no benefit/profit when there is the possibility of dying at the hands of the victims. However, the Do-gooders/progressives will invariably come to the aid of the POS citing excessive force being used by the good citizens, ultimately leaving the good citizen without the means to defend themselves. We see this in progressive bastions. Nothing will substantively change in this city, county, state or nation until the political elite and their kin suffer the same fate as the good citizen. Only then will the political elite realize their social justice folly of cowering criminals from punishment.

Alright,Tom Mullen call us after you and your family have been raped and beaten. Well once you are able to locate a cellphone (which was stolen) and find the last bit of nerve left to dial 911 and accurately give dispatch the descriptions of offenders, and I'm sure you won't know which way they fled. I'm sure they took your vehicle, which you probably don't know the plate number to.

Actually, better yet!!! Walk into the station for your report and VIN since it isn't an "in progress" call anyway. My partner and I will "canvass" the area and hopefully a warrant will be ready for your "unknown" offenders.

This is the beginning of something of a tidal shift. The political left is coming to grips with the fact that modern day gun control is indeed dead. The position is still a slim means of laundering some money, but as a political position outside some ever smaller slivers, it is something that silent about, if not something to abandon entirely.

My questions is, are cops going to stop the bogus arrests of people who are doing no more than carrying a gun TO defend themselves, you know, exercising a right that has been plainly enumerated all along? Finally?

I think it is a great idea, but I am cure the civil libertarians would object as an invasion of privacy or would limit drone use to public spaces not flying over private property. There's a critical difference that the newspaper article leaves out - one of operational model differences.

* Fires are relatively rare occurrences. People requiring emergency services are relatively rare as well. So firefighters can stay "in the house" and wait for a call. Sure, they get inspectors out on inspections and they're roaming in cars - but by and large firefighters go where needed when called.

* Law enforcement activities are much more common, and dynamic. Cops are asked to deal with investigations, felonies, misdemeanors, and petty offenses. Petty offenses are largely revenue generators for the State and occur everywhere - the Government wants the cops out and about to write tickets/ANOVs, and to get that revenue. To that end, cops have to be mobile all the time...

Cops are charged (usually) with dealing with traffic issues - lots of cars = lots of potential for collisions - and then a report usually needs to be drafted to keep the insurance envelope packers happy. So cops have to be out and about... Stop lights fail = cops need to handle it...

Two imbeciles get into an argument over the last chicken wing in certain neighborhoods and requires rapid response from cops because these imbeciles have zero impulse control. Having cops driving around sometimes gives these fools pause before deciding to shoot each other...

And so on... comparing cops and firefighters is apples to oranges. The models are different, need to be different, and trying to shoehorn one into the other is a crappy idea.

Or go for it - give it a shot and watch crime skyrocket.... oh wait.

SCC please make a thread! The below article about he ATF is a farce!!

https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20170626/bridgeport/chicago-gun-violence-federal-help-alcohol-tobacco-firearms-atf-ballistics-van-trump-send-in-the-feds

I am an ET and this whole set up is a joke. Our lab has the exact same cababilites as this van and can return results in the same time frame. Only difference is theirs is mobile, but it is NOT OPERATIONAL on scene. It is all smoke and mirrors. The van needs 220 volts to run the machines. Has anyone seen a 220 line run to the van on scene? NOPE. The van must return to Homan Square and park in the garage to have access to the 220 line to operate. Best part is the lab a few floors up has the exact same technology!!!

It is complete and utter bullshit to have the mayor and a US senator lie to the public in this article to give them a false belief that we have some how received help from the "Feds"

Also, all this does is catalog all the evidence in a database. You can tell that the fired cases from today at say 79th and shields have been fired from the same gun in which fired cases were recovered from a different location in the past. It in no way tells you who shot the fucking gun. Say you do then have a gun recovered and can link that gun to 7 other shootings or still DOES NOT tell you who shot the gun. It's a catalog system plan and simple.

Oh it can be run from propane tanks hooked up to the van as well but those are not being bought and used cause they don't want to pay the money to refill them everyday.

Dog and pony show and it's finest and the media needs to start calling the politicians on this bullshit.

What I have in 016 is pretty much what this article is talking about.

You want black cops policing black people? Has this not happened in Detroit, Baltimore, Pheonix Illinois, a multitude of South Suburbs, Maywood? Has the result been any better? There is no evidence out there that race matters one bit in hoe effective a person is as a police officer. POnly a racist would propose such a solution.

Remember eddie saying he talked to black people and said "Blacks believe that blacks should police blacks" and that "people of color relate better to people of color" eddie said that goof, maybe it should be tried why not?

True even the retired coppers are getting squeezed for money it's great that we can carry any state but every year we have to qualify and pay that hundred dollars while concealed carry owners pay and get a three your permit but yet the policeman who have given their lives protecting people know how to handle a weapon still qualify every year just given the state more money ridiculous Kevin Graham besides the pension issue which is number one you better get it taken care of stop sending out nonsense that you know is not true get the painter taken care of get this taken care of how about five years for police officers to requalify don't be scared take a leap of faith just get it done!

Just left IROCC qualifying last week Range guy tried to explain the difference. Carried concealed doesn't allow you to carry in every state. IROCC does. You can carry in all 50 states. Also the cost is high because IROCC gets no subsidies and is solely supported by the $75 & $100 shooting fees. City and state give no help
He also addresses the 1 and 5 year difference. He stated that is for any citizen or us, but that the IROCC is only for retired police and consequently by law we are required to qualify once a year, the same as active police and are also required to qualify on the same Ouse. It all has to do with us being former pilice
