A Good Start

  • The court battle delaying the Cook County sugary drink tax is about to start hitting home.

A hearing on the tax has been pushed back until next week, but Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said Tuesday that layoff notices will be going out soon.

Preckwinkle was counting on that tax revenue to generate tens of millions of dollars this year alone, and without it she said she has no option but to take drastic measures. So, starting later this week, more than 1,100 layoff notices will start going out.
We're betting that the actual noticeable impact is closer to zero than Prickwrinkle is letting on. County government is far too overstaffed with made up spots being paid six-digits, like Mrs. Mark Brown for starters. There are dozens, maybe hundreds more.

Not enough revenue so you actually have to make cuts to live within your means? Heavens to murgatroyd! Why is Toni the first one to employ this revolutionary tactic? She should tell the city and state how this works so maybe they can get finances managed too. Personally, I blame the cops, Rauner, and Trump for ruining this place.

Why is it that Politicians can only spend too much? Preckwinkle in this case, can only spend more without dropping the Dooms Day scenario? Everyone else in this country lives on a balanced budget or goes into bankruptcy in just a few years.

Lets not vote for anyone who cant manage on a balanced budget without burdening the taxpayers with the word "doomsday" in their rhetoric, or raising taxes to meet their over substantiated needs...NO balanced budget, no vote. Tax raises, no vote.

It's simple really...

No fat will be cut. The SOP every time us poor serfs start getting uppity and say "NO MORE!", the powers that be look to make cuts that will hurt us the most. The 6 figure political patronage jobs and the money for free shit used to buy the votes of da comoonitay are sacrosanct and cannot be touched. Just things like fire, police, street repairs, garbage collection, and schools. Eventually, the serfs will cry uncle and say "OK, we'll grab our ankles and pay up. Just bring back the vital services you cut". Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Been going on since long before I was squeezed out onto this sad, sorry-ass ball of rock. Will continue long after I take a dirt nap. Nothing new under the sun.

Well, naturally the most expendable employees are the patronage spots, but we can't have those folks laid off, so they'll lay off the people who are actually necessary, thus creating a crisis and build support for increasing taxes.

"We're gonna just fight this out in the courts for as long as it take, and we think we have a strong case," Preckwinkle said.

Another group, Can The Tax, is raising questions about cuts being greater than the amount of revenue lost from not having the tax. The county dismissed that as "alternative math."

The county filed a motion to have the lawsuit dismissed. The judge said he wants to hear arguments at a hearing now set for July 21.

1. Alternative math ? The layoffs are way more than the tax loss. Also Taxwinkey didn't consider that people would go outside Crook county to buy this stuff. The city is not getting the $$$ they expected from the bag tax.

2. Who picks the Crook county judge to hear this case? The chief judge. Motion to fix granted.
Is a Crook county judge going to rule against his boss? A career ending move.

An amazing statistic has surfaced as a result of this, the people on LINK will be exempt for purely political reasons, after all thats the democrat base in this country, and in Cook county the number of people on LINK is 870,000.

Cook county has a population of 5.1 million, meaning there are 5.86 people paying for every person collecting LINK.

How is this model sustainable? How will there EVER be enough taxpayers to support the welfare class?

Bullwinkle's bluff. Let's see how far she'll take it.

And it's funny, isn't it, that the first things they always threaten to cut are police, hospitals and schools. Really? How about cutting the bloat from corrupt and
incompetent government first? Did that idea ever cross their minds?

Anyway, if she's forced to fire a mob of county employees, it will only make things better. In fact, I hope she keeps going with more rounds of firings.

Well, I'm driving my car to buy gas in Indiana, while I'm there, I will get my bottled water, with no tax, my sugary drinks with no additional tax, a few packs of cigarettes, some fireworks, lower taxes on other goods, obtain plastic or. Paper bags from the stores there for free, also guns and ammo at Cabellas, go to areas where I don't worry about being shot. TRUMP TERRITORY, enjoy some less expensive restaurants, buy some booze, and maybe go to a casino. Then I'll come home, lock myself inside the house, set my intrusion alarm, activate my security cameras, let the dogs out to patrol my yard and don't go out until I have to. Also keep below the window to avoid being shot. And pay my increasing property tax. And probably never seeing a Chicago police car patrolling my neighborhood. But i must remember to vote democratic come election day.

And the only staff cuts she'll be making is in the law enforcement field. This is one way to control the jail population and those who would otherwise be prison bound. Can't house them, can't prosecute them, and the least of the cuts will be in the public defender's office. Foxx's office will lose the appropriate number of old-school ASAs, mostly those who are not comfortable with the current regime's agenda, and a bulk of the pink slips will be those in the sheriff's office who are not beholden to the politicians for their spot, and those who could possible stand the chance to put political constituents in jail. They'll lay off a few non-immigrant nurses at in the County medical iffices, same with a few Docs, but only those who use too many respurces. The County ER has some good trauma Docs, but if they don't kiss the feet of the connected, it doesn't matter what their skill level is, they'll be told to move on. Not tonworry, the or patronage spots will remain safe, and hidden.

Look at this from the Policeman's/Deputy Sheriff's/Correctional Officers end for a moment.

Word is that not a single civilian is going to be laid off. Preckwinkle is only laying off Sworn Officers, Doctors, Nurses, States Attorneys, Highway Workers.

The 65,000/year pencil and paperclip brigade will NOT be touched. Bet on it!

This is being done so show the public what a terrible thing going without the sugar tax will be for them. No one gives a damn about the bureaucrats if they get laid off or not. A Trauma Surgeon, yes. A Policeman, yes particularly if you live in unincorporated Cook.

The Cook County Department of Homeland Insecurity and Emergency Mismanagement will not be touched. They are still buying toys, and a bunch of them for their clubhouse in Oak Forest.

The Forest Preserve Police (Toni's private Police Force), untouched. No freaking way a one of them will get launched.

We just had a Sheriff's Police recruit class get cut loose from FTO. We have guys and gals just married, a few have babies on the way. Who speaks up and defends these folks? What the hell did they do to deserve this? These kids followed the rules, passed the tests and academy, FTO training, etc. Why can't they get a chance? Maywood doesnt seem to care. the silence from the square is deafening. This means you Marlon.

As a Patrol Sergeant, it isn't enough that I have to spend half the night doing workforce payroll crap, and a bunch of useless stuff that takes me off the street so I can not supervise my watch. Now, I have young coppers calling me for a meet, I get there a few with tears in their eyes including a young man whose wife is 6 1/2 months pregnant with their first child and I have to calm them down. Get them relaxed and focused in their safety and dealing with these Ford Heights Jaggoffs.

Corrections is getting the shit end of the stick figuratively and literally. It is a terrible job. Much worse than it was 25 years ago when I was there as an Officer. The SJW's have hamstrung the Officers so they can't defend themselves. Hmmm, sounds like, the CPD. What a coincidence! But, alas, CPD doesn't get fecal matter thrown at it by the savages behind the bars either.

Any CPD Officer (or anyone for that matter) that cheers on the layoff of County Policemen and C/O's OR ANY POLICEMAN IN ANY DEPARTMENT AND THIS INCLUDES YOUR AIRPORT should be ashamed.

And save the speech about the political crap, chinaman, incompetent lackey employees, etc. Let he who has no sins cast the very first stone!

God help Preckwinkle if some young Officer kills themselves over the loss of their career. I pray that it doesnt happen and you should too.

Stay safe Brothers and Sisters.

What about the expected shortfall from the nickel a round (yes 5 cents per round) ammo oppressive tax ? No gangbangers screaming about this one - oh wait, I forgot, they dont purchase arms ($25 per gun tax here) and ammo LEGALLY - silly me. This tax was supposedly implemented to "...aid victims of gun violence..." Yes, and legal gun owners are the ones who are creating this carnage - right? Tell me, anybody with live brain cells still buying ammo in Crook County? That's why places like GAT in E. Dundee and Marengo Guns in Marengo (7% tax here BTW) exist. Short road trip - no problem. Suck on it Taxwinkee.

Why Democrats Encourage Government Shutdowns

Brian Riedl

Why would Democrats want to keep the threat of government shutdowns alive?

Look no further than combative former Vermont Governor Howard Dean. Back in 2011, he admitted that “[f]rom a partisan point of view, I think it would be the best thing in the world to have a shutdown… If I was head of DNC, I would be quietly rooting for it. I know who’s going to get blamed. We’ve been down this road before.”

In other words, former Governor Dean says Democrats should root for government shutdowns because opinion-makers will reflexively blame the GOP.
