Firefighter Injured

  • Firefighters who responded to a car crash on Chicago's South Side early Thursday morning wound up having to take cover after someone shot at their fire truck.

The crew was responded around 2:30 a.m. to a two-car crash at East 79th Street and South Yates Boulevard in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood and an argument between two people involved in the crash broke out in front of the fire truck.

A person involved in the crash allegedly called a man to come to the scene. Police said that man grabbed a handgun from his car and started firing shots into a crowd.

A bullet struck the windshield of Fire Engine 126 and at least one firefighter was cut by flying glass.
The gangs are already firing at "dads" walking with their kids. Now they're shooting in the direction of the people most responsible for saving their miserable hides in accidents, in fires, after being shot. How about Fire refuses to respond to any scene until secured and cleared by CPD? That would drive the response times through the roof - and the homicide numbers up around 1,000 for the year.

Fourth of July Weekend was a complete shit show, despite everything CPD did.

How about everyone taking Labor Day Weekend off, and see if it is that much worse?

Someone shoots at a firetruck? Run them over. If the hoses are already out - turn the hose on the J/O. Then when he hits the ground, give him a nice shampoo.

We lost. The thugs, gangs, and assholes won.

Pull back to Mt. Greenwood and call for fire support.

They destroyed the city, rebuild it on their bones and ashes.

Most big cities dispatch police to the fire scene
because this shit has happened before. Sounds
like the CFD has a case against the city. It's
common sense and S.O.P. elsewhere. You can't
fight the fire and be responsible for crowd control
at the same time.

But if the Chicago Fire Department fails to respond in a timely manner; they will be sued by a bottom feeder attorney, who by the way lives in some tony suburb on the Northshore and not the Shitty. (And for anyone from Mt. Greenwood or Bridgeport; "tony" means upscale or fashionable, trendy, etc., not an Italian neighborhood like Taylor Street used to be!) I saw the bullet hole in the windshield of the CFD firetruck, and if I was a firefighter, I would not leave the firehouse in "High Crime Areas, (That's a code term for predominately Democrat areas of the South and West sides.) without a poleeze escort. And by the way this is actually not new, but definitely getting worse. How many of us remember the firehouse at Larrabee and Division's metal sign over the entrance? It had numerous bullet holes in it from the Cabrini Green "Jets". ("Jets" iz what dey use to call da Prajets!) Whenever some young academic would acquire a new firearm he would test its accuracy by shooting it at the firehouse sign; hence the holes in the sign. However in their infinite wisdom, our beloved King, Dick II, or Richard the Lesser, corrected the scourge of Public Housing by knocking down the buildings! Thus causing the cancer to metastasize into Middle Class Black areas, and what used to be Ethnic neighborhoods and border suburbs. This also made any hope of a decent neighborhood school an impossibility, because faculty were forbidden to even "look" at one of these immigrants from "Da Jets" in a manner that might be considered "Mean Staring". White teachers, unaccustomed to the "Wayz a da Hood", have been counseled for allegations of "Mean Staring" their students, as a form of intimidation and terrorizing students new to the communities they now infest. Stay Safe, thank God Rahm has your back. Smile, wave and drive by and away. Do nothing more than required! Baby "G"

Does the CFD still prohibit its paramedics from wearing Kevlar vests? There was a bit of a controversy a couple of years ago.

And a great job by the guys in 004 that night. They had the shooter in custody and tracked down his gun within minutes of him shooting at the firefighters. The 004th District guys had fire surrounded to make sure they were safe and had the scene knocked down in minutes. Good job.

Just take a Slow Row to the Scene, stop short of the location, look and listen. Request for Police. Police take a Slow Row, stop by Fire, exchange information and then proceed with caution, after 2 or 3 units are also on scene. Remember strength in numbers, plus it's part of the new Force Mitigation.

Back in mid 80's in Rock Island, IL (yes, there are shit areas in small cities) ... the Arsenal Courts project was so shitty that the firefighters took 45 mins to respond to a serious gas leak call. Wouldn't come within a mile until the police were there and had secured the area.

Follow Nancy's advice. "Just say no"

Also, are the paramedics still banned from having vests?

I have always said and told CFD this that CFD is in too much of a hurry to get to their jobs. Slow up a bit, let the savages wear themselves out or the hood burn just a bit longer. In the long run you will be doing society a favor.

And, as an old timer told me 25 plus years ago, "kid, it's all bullshit, none of this shit out here is for real so don't get hurt over it".

I know several firefighters that transferred from the police also several are part-time cops in the suburbs. Why not just let them carry at work maybe give them a different shirt to inform the public that they are both firefighters and police. Of course a pay increase would be expected so the city will never do it

I could never understand why anyone would want to hurt a person who is attempting to help him/her. I am amazed at the treatment of CFD Para-Medics and Firefighters receive in parts of the city. There are MANY CASES of Batteries against Para-Medics. We have lost it. Keep on voting Democratic.

During the King Riots (1968) fire houses located in the area's of the riots, where better armed then the police. I never liked the hose dragger's for various reasons, but I know a lot of them deer hunt and have relatives that are the police. If a firefighter wants to carry on duty, let them. Why doesn't someone like stupid Bruke pass a real serious bill, allowing firefighter to protect themselves.

Arm the CFD Driver with a carbine, or somebody really does "rides shotgun".

This story didn't make the non-stop every hour news reel like a police involved shooting.

WBBM-AM on-scene reporter happened to find an expert eye witness amongst the up-all-nite community chaos
The feeble reporter located and interviewed "Lay-Mon Ray-Cord" (lemon record) who gave the play-by-play (it's 2am) because he seen 'that ain't nobody shot at that far-truck cuz they was shootn at eachutter'.
Dats duh'troof.

Ray "racist" Lopez was the POS that called Jefferson Park residents racists because we don't want high rise apartments full of subsided housing. He has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to caucasians who aren't flaming liberals. That might be why he's focused on the CFD.

I seem to recall a discussion memo that was sent out a few months ago. City Employees with a CCL are allowed to carry while working. This is how City Clerk License Investigators that are cleared by the State to CCW can get away with it while they work out of their private vehicles.

However, only Sworn Police Officers and I guess Aldermen are allowed to carry a firearm while on City Property or in City Vehicles.

A "Special Police" ID from the Superintendant of Police "might" be enough to side step that City Policy but I am uncertain.
