Felonious Mayor?

Detroit is really setting the bar low - so low that Chicago is going to have to limbo to get under it:
  • Half of the eight mayoral hopefuls on Detroit’s primary ballot next week have been convicted of felony crimes involving drugs, assault or weapons, a Detroit News analysis shows.

Three were charged with gun crimes and two for assault with intent to commit murder. Some of the offenses date back decades, the earliest to 1977. The most recent was in 2008.

Political consultant Greg Bowens said there are candidates with past hardships in every election cycle. It’s not something unique to Detroit or the political arena in general, he said.
Well, Chicago is already close. Twenty odd aldercreatures have served some sort of time. A bunch more died before getting caught dirty. A few pardoned felons, including one current aldercreature. Rahm might be an unindicted co-conspirator as far as we know, in any number of schemes. Shortshanks certainly should be.

Don't forget the Illustrious Illinois Governors.

Aren't Quinn and Rauner the only two that have not been convicted (yet!)?

"It’s not something unique to Detroit or the political arena in general..."

Hell, DC re-elected Marion Berry after he was arrested smoking crack on a police surveillance video.

It's not that the bar is set low for candidacy. It's apparently set too low for voters.

All Illinois politicians should serve two terms; one in office, one in prison.

Having a previous criminal history will just insure candidates are qualified for the job.

Was an interesting show on The Five last night on FOX. They had a segment on Chicago and asked - "why doesn't the Mayor step down? He isn't stopping any crime or murders?"
Their suggestion was that he step down and go write a book or something.

I was shocked how they just came out with their criticism.

Good luck, Rahm if you think you are going to run for some higher office. I would never vote for you. You have proven how incompetent you are.

The have made restitution and paid their debt to society. They have turned their lives around, so they should be eligible for elective office. We came very close to electing Hillary to the highest office in the land, so Detroit is no big deal.

So I gotta ask, how many of those candidates are Republicans?

Wasn't it cool when Barack Obama posed for photos at his "lovefest" with former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick? Kwame, was tight with the history making presidential candidate before being stripped of his mayoral office a few months later.

Kilpatrick was charged with eight felony counts, including perjury, misconduct in office, and obstruction of justice. In the separate assault case, he pleaded no contest to one felony count of assaulting and obstructing a police officer in exchange for a second assault charge being dropped.

Kilpatrick was again indicted on new corruption charges, in what a federal prosecutor called a "pattern of extortion, bribery and fraud" by some of the city's most prominent officials. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison on October 10, 2013.

Will the Obama photos with Kilpatrick be displayed at the Presidential library?

Funny how things come around.
When then DC Mayor Marion Barry was caught on videotape by the FBI tooting (smoking) crack in a hotel room with a female, he uttered a line that applies to us in Crook County with 'Prickwrinkle'...
BARRY:" The bitch set me up, I'll be damned."

I see a pattern here.

OK - BOTH of these comments rate SUPER-HIGH in the "ain't that the F-ing truth" category.

If we were handing out TV sets this week, each of you would get one.

Too bad they haven't "fallen off the truck" -- yet.

This State, county and city are a complete joke. Everyone that can should leave this fucked up state. Until people vote the current set of assholes out of office nothing will change.

With Cities like Detroit, Baltimore or Washington DC in the 1980s under Crack Cocaine addict Mayor Marion Barry, it's just reality that home rule, "democracy" doesn't work.

Some PR acceptable way to work around this must be found and in the case of Washington DC and Detroit it was done - a City manager can be appointed to "help" improve the situation, see that public employees like teachers and police get paid, garbage gets picked up. If it's done in a positive way, the locals will accept the help, sure same old, same olds like Rev Jessie Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton was bitch and whine, BlackLiesMatter with do some protests or riots, but strong men running offices like the Governor's mansion can see that things get done.

Call it "Neo Colonialism" if you like, but I note that Hong Kong was a very successful British Colony for 100 years. New York City used to be New Amsterdam a prosperous Dutch colony.

What we need now are tough men like President Trump that can get things done. One city that needs one of these Governor appointed city managers is Minneappolis where the Mayor and Police Chiefs have been idiot Liberal Lefty, pro Somalian Muslim women, LGBT - that just can't cut it.

If Rahm steps down, do you really believe his replacement will be any better. Just another political hack
Blog posters were crying to get McCarthy replaced with one from within. You see how that turned out

Chicago trained candidate hopefuls ?
Where else can one learn hands on corruption these days.
Keep in mind that the other half of Detroit mayoral candidates were exonerated, pardoned or early released under the obama Restorative Just-give-Us Program.

The comments about Chicago being the next Detroit arn't really correct. Detroit has renovated their downtown and in most cases their crime is going down. I think Chicago has more similarities to Baltimore.

That is why Detroit will NEVER change!

They are voting in crooked Felons to Office to handle the "Peoples and Folks" monies!

Glad I do NOT live in Detroit and Chicago is headed for a similar problem with all the crooked politicians in Chicago [Rahm], Cook County [Toni P.] and Illinois {Madigan and Ilk]!

Can't wait to leave Illinois!

"Political consultant Greg Bowens said there are candidates with past hardships in every election cycle." Hardships... HARDSHIPS ?!?! No sir, hardships are difficulties thrust upon a person externally. I am so frigging sick and tired of this excuse-making and victimization b.s. to explain faulty moral behavior. One of the hallmarks is the tweaking of language. Criminals become "justice-involved" and juvenile offenders become "at-risk youth". F##k that noise.
