A crazy thought, he admitted later, but it had been a crazy evening Thursday.
Less than an hour earlier, he had been on a Red Line train at Jackson in the Loop when two young men started arguing in front of him. One of them pulled a gun -- "a cannon" -- and shot the other man in the arm and the ankle.
The shooting was so wild, Pertzborn was surprised he or other passengers weren't hit too.
“I saw his right arm go up and saw a muzzle flash,’’ said Pertzborn, 44, a graphics designer who works in the Willis Tower. “I heard boom, boom, boom… Boom, boom, boom, boom. About five or six shots. It was a big gun."
Of course, a gun wouldn't have done him much good since guns are banned on CTA trains and platforms...

I'm a CCL and carry every day I'm on the Orange line. This is the example for everyone who has a CCL. The criminals are going to have their guns no matter what sign your talking about. Here's what too do, carry the damn gun and forget about the signs. I'll take my chances, because my life is more important than a no gun sign.

How would a officer know if a person riding the CTA was armed? Unless the weapon was exposed, no one would know? I would assume there are a high percentage of CTA riders armed CCA and secured knowing they have protection. I not not believe officers are proactive patting people down unless they are naive.

As a disabled veteran who also teaches self-defense and firearms safety, and who also has a CCL, I am literally the demographic LEAST likely to commit any sort of crime. And yet, because I obey the law, due to CTA, Chicago, and Illinois policy, I am unable to travel around the city and exercise my Constitutional and inalienable right to protect myself effectively. Whereas these individuals who care nothing about obeying any societal rules whatsoever are able to put people like me at risk with their violent behavior with impunity, because they are so rarely caught and prosecuted appropriately.
Perhaps I should engage in civil disobedience and carry my concealed firearm with me wherever I go, including the CTA, and if I'm ever caught doing so, see how it plays out both in actual court and the court of public opinion that a disabled combat veteran is being punished for exercising the rights that he sacrificed his health and well being for in the service of his country.
It might be time for the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois to pay more legal fees for losing a Second Amendment court case, it seems. How much is it that they have they had to pay already?

Chief of detectives is a great boss. I had the opportunity to work with her before and if you knew her, you would know she is good people. I'm not sure why you think the chief of detectives should hold a press conference after every homicide, but I've seen her already a few times on TV. I guess you want one of those micro-managing bosses that are always buzzing in your ear telling you exactly how to do your job. maybe if you concentrated on what you are doing instead of where all the bosses are, the clearance rate would get out of the single digits.

not even close to 190..Mass transit is down to about 120. And the only line they cover most of the time is the red line, where most of the animals room. South gets the most attention. Now remember, this was a unit that 1 time had 490. New York has 4000. But hey, we have 2000 cameras that are going to stop the shooting. So true and rahm has the big suburbans and tahoes, he says he is "for the environment" but yet is driven around in these gas hogging, tanks that are great for speeding through red lights causing people to run off the streets! He has many new vehicles hidden in the "front line" section on 51st and other locations so he always has access to a new vehicle if his needs service! The only time I don't carry in the city is when I'm going to or from an airport, into a school, or a venue where I know there will be metal detectors. Any other institute - be it public transit, government, or private can take their No Guns signs and shove them. My option to protect myself in this cess pool is more important than the feel-good, compromise parts of our concealed carry laws. And yes, if I get caught and prosecuted - I'm going to challenge the validity of the Illinois CCW law. States Attorney's know this and aren't dumb, so if they cannot scare me into a guilty plea, they are going to drop the charges.
