What About the Health Spending?

  • After claiming more than 1,000 jobs would be lost, if the sweetened beverage tax was not implemented, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle negotiated a generous new deal with one of the county’s unions. In the end, Teamsters Union Local 700, which represents 3,500 guards and other security personnel, ended up with a slew of new perks including: payment for attending roll call, eliminating the cap on the use of personal time, a $1,200-per-person signing bonus, no increase in health care premiums, and 4 percent in additional salary increases, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

This contract agreement comes only weeks after the implementation of Cook County’s sweetened beverage tax, commonly called the “soda tax.” Cook County expects to receive $67.5 million in soda tax revenue for the remainder of 2017 and another $200 million in 2018. The county has claimed 1,100 government workers would be laid off if the tax was not implemented. While some workers were laid off, the county managed to rescind other layoffs.
According to what we've heard, Toni isn't going to get $30 million for this year and that $200 million is a crack-pipe fantasy that isn't going to garner even $80 million. That doesn't even take into consideration the sales tax falloff as people realize shopping outside of Cook County yields savings they didn't know existed. Figure a few tens of millions more.

And then there's the seats that Prickwrinkle is going to cost the Machine. All for a lie.

Hope the state passes the bill that eliminates the soda tax, cause in the end, the state is loosing money from this cause retailers don't sell soda and state is not taxing the increased income tax from the soda industry

I thought the Soda Tax was being repealed because the Federal Government is going to fine Illinois $67 Million?
Or was that all BS?

Kim Foxx and her executive staff are silencing the ASAs from speaking out against any of her new policies they disagree with. People are getting called down and threatened that if they don't support her new agendas they can leave. Also, several ASAs were warned that they could not even post or share links on newspaper articles on their private Facebook about such things as Preckwrinkles soda tax debacle. ASAs were also warned not to even talk about how Sussman made himself look like a clown with Judge Ford last week. And of course ASAs were told they are not to post on any blogs such as Second City Cop either. So basically at this point any dialogue or discourse is being silenced.

Let's see. $1200 over two years, not part of the base salary and not subject to future COLAs. No raise Year 1, then 2% year 2 , 2% year 3. Where do I sign up to work at CCDOC. FOP could use some pointer from these guys. Usually the bonus is in place of a retro. This is a big win for Preckwinkle.

The new Bloomberg backing and commercials are quietly throwing the race card intimating that sugary drinks (not the tax)and the distributors are racist since they destroy the health of the 'community".
Remember, not long ago Rahm was toast and now he has almost completed his climb back to the top of the mountain. No defined challengers, several AA aldercreatures already endorsing him.

Seems like the only thing left that hasn't been taxed by Toni Prickwankle and Raccoon Eyes is the air. Crook County and Chicago OXYGEN CONSUMPTION TAX. So if you live in Crook County, or just visiting, you must purchase an OCT pass to breath our dirty polluted air. If you are found without your pass a plastic bag will be placed over your head and you will be deposited in the nearest landfill. And your family will then have to pay the Crook County LANDFILL TAX.

Can someone in the media please ask Preckwinkle..................if the soda tax is supposed to help our health, then why don't LINK recipients have to pay the soda tax. Aren't they the ones that would need the health benefit the most?

It's frustrating to see the LINK recipients, of all colors and weight classes, walk out of Jewel with 30 2 liter bottles. It seems to me the health benefit of less sugar would definitely help them.

I've been going to Indiana on the weekends for 9 years only thing I would stop for otw home was gas. Not anymore. Stopped and picked
up a several cases of soda and while there made numerous other purchases. Only 7% tax on everything. Still got gas and Powerball tickets as well. Hey somebody has to win. Soda tax = failure. Soda tax may appear to bring in some revenue from those who don't have time to
Travel outside this county and restaurants and bars which are getting killed by this tax. In the long think it will be a wash with some small
businesses along the county border closing up shop.

Guess what, taxes will then go though the roof - mark my words! Get out of crook county if you can when you retire. Get out of this F'd up state also, if possible. You do not want to be around when the bill comes due.

In other news: 'Dog Bites Man'

Except for Space Aliens who just landed in America, everyone knows that the sole goal of Democrat Politicians is to extort money from Taxpayers in never ending taxation, just so they can grow big government even bigger, and dole out sweetheart deals to their cronies and the politician's relatives.

This is not unique to Cook County and Chicago but commonplace in D.C. too, to wit: ....
---> After Sept 11, 2001 and we were looking to strengthen the Airline Industries safety measures, one tool being X-Ray Machines. You'd never guess who got the contract to furnish EVERY X-Ray Machine to be installed in every airport in the USA.

The company that was being represented by the wife of US Senator, DEMOCRAT Tom Daschle -- who was both Minority Leader and Majority Leader during Bush's terms. Daschle's wife was a Lobbyist at the time and she rep'd a company that made the Body X-Ray scanners that got the contract. She made MILLIONS from this deal, and it was all legal!

The sweetened beverage tax faces a repeal vote at next month’s Cook County Board meeting, Sept. 12. Here is the link to the repeal bill. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocTypeID=HB&DocNum=4083&GAID=14&SessionID=91&LegID=107645

The county had 30 days to develop an action plan to remove SNAP recipients from being taxed. Then another 30 days to fully implement the program. The SNAP recipients will not lose the benefit, that you can count on.

This is sort of a Balandic for PorkWinkle, an unfavorable tax too soon before an election.
Nice planning.
But a $1200 signing bonus sealed the dill.
ToeNail just used a sugar pop tax to secure some votes.
That pinny an ounce will be three pinny oz. next year...her assumption of an election win and stupid voters.
I think she's done.
The American Beverage Association is still on her and expect they'll carry the issue right up to Primary Day 2019.

(OT) then we have this a nice day and:73-year-old man shot during robbery attempt in West Lawn

A 73-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery early Thursday in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., he was walking on the sidewalk in the 6100 block of South Kenneth when another male exited a black SUV and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police.

The man refused to comply and the suspect fired shots, striking him in the abdomen, police said. The shooter then got back in the SUV, which sped away.

That was a great place to live at 1 time, "west of Pulaski" was the mantra, now with the influx of illegals and the city fully violating federal immigration laws that area is gone! To think the home area of Mike Madigan great job Mike!

Ohio judge slams Cleveland Browns players for protest during national anthem

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/08/24/ohio-judge-slams-cleveland-browns-players-for-protest-during-national-anthem.html

Excerpt:The Monday protest involved a group of 12 mostly black Browns players joined by two of their white teammates. Such protests have increased in the league following then San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's custom last year of taking a knee during the anthem to protest police brutality.

I was in a Will County Jewel yesterday and noticed a 7 Up guy stocking the shelves. A young black guy, not that it matters. Anyhoo, I ask him if his deliveries are down in Cook County. He says they are way down, big time. He said he delivers to a Jewel on the Cook County side of the county line. Before the tax, he delivered five pallets for the weekend. After the tax he is down to one pallet. That is an 80% decrease!! He also said he is delivering more soda to stores outside of Cook County. I wonder if Prickwinkle factored the reduced consumption into her revenue projections?

Attention Veterans: Starting Nov 11th you will be able to use the on-line PX. No alcohol or cigarettes. Can't go to PX, only on-line. Biggest benefit seems to be not paying the 10.25 sales tax in Chicago. Prices seem to be similar to Costco. Free delivery if purchase $49 or over. I checked it out and prices do not seem that great. You will have to shop.

Remember this in November 2018! Personally, think Preckwinkle is done. Lots of good tax paying people are not happy about this, and expect the "can the tax" people to keep it in the forefront. Unfortunately, the Republican Party in Cook County is basically nonexistent, so they can't or won't mount a serious challenge. Personally she is worse than Todd Stroger ever was. I think she will get the message that it is time to step down. The bad part is she will be replaced by another tax and spend Democrat, and the beat will go on.

First off, the ISP have a contract with the NFL to do this. You may even notice a small group of them on the field during Bears games?
And of course, Leo is a POLITICAL APPOINTEE to the position of ISP Director. Every single one of them is, courtesy of the elected Governor.

Democrats should never be allowed to negotiate a deal. Their record of screwing the law abiding taxpayers speaks for itself. Social benefits for everyone, (at American taxpayers expense of course) soft on crime, (no explanation necessary), weak on national defense including border security, (need voters, even the illegal ones).
They are disgusting!
